I remember I once saw OH trying to force some food into Keira's mouth, I hit the roof and threw the beans covered spoon off his head. I won't put up with force feeding!!

See I think it's so odd cause as a kid I was a porker and loved food, still do, so to me food is fun and fantastic. To Keira it's just like MEH if I have too.

She's awake still because of her cough, she napped earlier though. Anyhow she is playing peppa pig on the DS and keeps nicking it off me when I do something she cant. Her breath smells of illness. That sounds queer I know, but I can always smell when someone has a cough!

So what does everyone serve on Xmas day? I stupidly went over to the OS board and the amount of effort and food people put out

    Last year we had

Prawn and avacado cocktails for the starter

For the main meal I did, Turkey, Skirlie (Scottish stuffing kinda, fried oats) Stuffing, Carrot and Neep mashed together, Green beans, Brussels, Roast spuds, Mashed spuds, gravy, honey glazed roast parsnips, cranberry sauce (no pigs in blankets as OH's mum is a muslim and It would of been disrespectful and too much faff cooking it all seperately, making sure nothing touched, plus she hates the smell) and yorkshire puddings

Pudding - I just bought a chocolate cheesecake (which no-one ate as too stuffed, except Keira....who ate fish fingers....) as no-one likes trifle or Christmas cake!

This year it will be the same, even though OH's mum won't be here, I won't be doig pigs in blankets, as his sister doesn't eat much red meat, or pork (if any?) plus I don't like em :D

and for starter this year I might tempt my hand at making haggis balls!

But some people have like 3 different meats, bread sauce (what the hell is bread sauce?) cauliflower and cheese (erm why?) cheesy leeks (gross!) etc etc etc....

Your dinner sounds amazing buttons :) :T:T:T DH loves bread sauce. I can't bring myself to try it, since I have now made it. It is warm milk steeped with onion and spices with odds and ends of bread added in til they are saturated and gloopy a bit like a runny porridge. I'm not a fan, can you tell?

You know I once did the online CSA thingy to see what it would say, on the basis that OH had Keira every weekend and he'd have to pay me about £300 a month  I don't even spend that on Keira, even taking into account electricity that she uses, and the food she does not eat, clothing etc.....

    Maaaaaaaad!

But your loss of earnings in looking after her all the week would be worth more than that Buttons. If he had her he'd have to pay nursery each day. £45 a day here, so £990 a month.
I might be missing something though. And I'm not wanting the CSA system to be wrongly and harshly punitive of absent parents, just that looking after the children has a cost to the woman's career which is often not factored in in debates IYSWIM?:)

Where's Susan been hiding this week? I don't recall seeing her around...

I've been thinking that too. Worryingly my parcel to her was returned to sender (me) but I think this is because the label I attached with loads of sticky tape had come off and was a flap, so I think they tried to deliver a pillowcase to amazon books :o. But if it wasn't that then I'm worried.

I've resent it now (with more sticky tape)

off to catch up more... :)

How ironic! Sami, self-confessedly always late, with super-early fairies :rotfl:

Craig normally does most of the Christmas cooking here. He loves it! I do the desserts as he's not so good with them.

Parents usually come over around noon-ish, and we have canapes and sparkling wine while we open presents with them.

Usually have dinner for about 2pm and don't do starters. Usually have a turkey crown and a joint of red meat as Dad hates turkey and I prefer it. Then pigs in blankets, stuffing balls, roast spuds, Yorkshire puds and a selection of veg.

Dessert is Christmas pud and an alternative (Dad and me are pudding haters!), and a cheese board as Craig prefers cheese to sweet stuff. Then coffee and chocolate mints.

Desserts are made on Christmas Eve, meat is cooked and veg is prepped. Then on Christmas Day all we have to do is cook the veg, warm the meat up and put stuff on serving plates. I always set the table on Christmas Eve too, and we have a snacky tea on the coffee table while watching something festive.

Don't bother doing tea on Christmas Day as everyone is normally too stuffed! There's bowls of nuts and sweets and leftovers if people want to pick though.
Here I go again on my own....

I need to get about 12 photo based presents costing less than £5 each but don't know what, I did baubles last year so thats a no. anyone know if bags are still on offer at tesco and if so how much?

Dont know if you're sorted yet Sami but the mugs via Cadburys biscuits turned out well, thats if you can force yourself to buy 12 packets of biscuits!!!
I'm pretty sure you're not a coffee drinker but do any of your fam drink Nescafe? 4 beans gets you a Photobox mug delivered for £2.49 (and I have lots stacked in my dining room! :D).

The Cadburys ones are through Snapfish
