Hello victory, this was just what I was told at the weekend and what is published in DiabetesUK's literature.

I had recently read about 'pre-diabetes' which is now being written about quite a lot. I wondered if I had 'insulin resistance' and that was why it is so slooooow to lose any weight. I think now that it's more likely that I've lost a lot of lean muscle over the years and need to get some of it back. I've been told about people who did not exercise at all but who kept within the calorie limit and lost weight purely on diet alone. It doesn't work for me. I do need some exercise. I've had difficulty finding some that works for me, because of replaced hips I can't do normal aerobics, go running, even walking is difficult.

I know what you mean about taking insulin. DH uses the excuse that 'insulin is a growth hormone'. He also has difficulty with exercise because of the knee (left knee replaced 4 times since 2003, septicaemia a year ago) but I think he could do some sitting down.

Not sure what the usual age is - I know a woman who's a few years older than me, she must be late 70s or so, and she was diagnosed last year.

good luck with the job hezza, really hope you get it!

Thanks granny, youre too kind! :)
  • Thanks pep for th flowers:D and various standing ovations. Got to at least maintain that now, but only 1lb more to lose and maintain for xmas and I'm happy.

Vix - good luck with the job app. Granny's right. Anyway, you are very boob experienced really aren't you, so it seems a logical next step:D

Thanks for the diabete info margaret. As a classic apple shape, I certainly fall in the the warning group - weight goes on round my middle, definitely.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
  • Hello everyone

Is it ok for me to join in on this thread please? I weigh in at 12stone and have been losing and putting back on the same 2lbs for weeks. I desperately want to lose some weight but am struggling.

I have looked at some of the suggestions and recipes but felt it would be rude of me to make use of them and not to say hello and join in.

My biggest problem is whilst I work full-time, my hubbie is retired now and insists on cooking the tea everyday (bless), but his reportoire is not very good. I feel awful saying that, as it is really nice to come home and not have to start cooking but I could do with some nice easy meal ideas that don't involve fatty sausages, steak pies and chips!

Well done to everyone who has lost weight. xx
