  • Here is some advice for those people looking to drop body fat.
First of all, the simple rule of thumb to shedding fat is eat less calories than your body burns off each day... work out your daily caloric needs using an online calculator (there is one here
http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm) then subtract about 500. This is your aim. Remember to take into account the amount you burn off through exercise
Try doing CV exercise after you wake up, on an empty stomach - about 20 minutes will suffice. When you sleep, your body still operates, and will burn off glycogen to do so. When you wake up, your glycogen reserves will be depleted, so your body will look for other reserves for energy - muscles and fat. If you are worried about keeping muscle, then drink a carb-free Whey protein shake before working out.
Try doing HIIT training - High Intensity Interval Training. This is basically where you do an exercise (say running), and alternate between very high intensity (90% HRM (heart rate max)) for 1 - 2 minutes, then low intensity (60% HRM) for 1 minute. Repeat this about 10 times for a total of 20 minutes. This will raise your metabolism up - you may not burn as many calories during that 20 minutes as you may do doing 20 minutes at 80%, but you'll burn more calories over the following 24 hours.
Don't cut out all fat, if on a low-fat diet. your body needs fat, but from good sources - e.g. fish. Otherwise, if you restrict fat, when your body will just try and store as much of it as it can. It is even worth supplementing fat (CLA capsules, Flax seed oil, etc), with every meal.
Avoid carbohydrates (especially High GI ones) after 6pm
Caffeine is actually your friend - it'll raise your metabolism and help with fat burning (hence why many fat burning supplements contain a source of it). Try drinking Green Tea (for it's other health benefits), or taking Green-tea extract capsules with every meal.
If you are doing gym work, do your weights session BEFORE your CV. Two reasons - firstly, you will have more strength to lift weights. Second, you will actually raise your metabolism through the weights session, sub sequentially burning more calories during your CV session
Eat more often... stay away from the traditional "3 large meals a day" and split it into 6... this will keep your metabolism higher, you'll won't eat to over indulgence during meals and will snack on bad foods less
For breakfast, eat a high-fibre based food - porridge (without added sugar) is excellent as it is slow burning... or bran flakes, etc. This will keep you fuller for longer and less inclined to reach for unhealthy snacks
Drink. Drink water regularly... cold water is even better as it will raise your metabolism. Aim for at least 2 litres a day

Hi, just thought I'd pass on a bit of info for dieting.
When you feel hungry, drink first (No not wine) try juice, then wait for about 20 mins. Modern man has forgotten what 'thirst' sensation is. The feeling we think is 'thirst' is actually dehydration, most hunger is actually thirst. Had to train my daughter on this one, as she wanted food more than she could have needed to eat, and now understands 'thirst' sensation better!!
Another tip, is chocolate is not the enemy its the quantity that is the problem. Chop a Mars bar (or your weakness) then put the 'bits' into a tub and stick it in the freezer, when you get a craving you can't ignore, pop one bit in your gob, cos its frozen it takes an age to eat and you feel like you've treated yourself without eating the whole bar
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:

Another good "sweet fix" is sugar free jelly... the solidness of it makes you think you are eating, plus they are sweet while being fat-free and VERY low calorie :)
