This is an important issue about engagement and wedding rings - please support if you can. I used to live in Zimbabwe and want to do anything I can to help this ravaged country. Thanks x

  • Morning Bails, that IS an important issue you're right and it's certeinly something I'd bear in mind if I were ever to be buying a diamond :o

Your wedding budget has scared me! Each thing on its own seems reasonable really, but there's just so much to consider and it really adds up!

PepPop - you're totally on my wavelength with the cheap wedding/amazing honeymoon!!

I would say you are spot on with most things in the budget. You could possibly buy cheaper wedding rings and get more expensive ones for your 10th wedding anniversary or something. It depends on what quality you want really. Both myself and OH got platinum and they came to £1050. My one is very plain as I have a sparkly ring and OH's is really contemporary and original.

Re: photographer. My sister got a deal (In Ireland) where she is just getting the disk and will print off the photos herself. You might be able to get something like that. Then you can print them off when you have more money.

The venue is pushing things up (moneywise) but I can totally understand why you want to go for the marquee/teepee idea. It is amazing!

What about your hair and make up, and also hair and make up for the bridesmaids. I would class that as quite important.

    Also - presents for bridesmaids/groomsmen?

    Shoes and jewellery for bridesmaids?

I think you could get your dress for under £1000 but depends on what you want.

    Hope this helps?

:) LETS is fantastic for planning anything, isn't it?

Congratulations OP - that is definitely something to tell the Grandchildren!

Hope you don't mind me butting in on your thread for a moment OP, but I just wondered if nykmedia (or anyone) had any contact with other LETS groups. I know there used to be groups near me (Stoke-on-Trent) but they seem to have disbanded and the main LETS site doesn't respond to e-mails.

    Thanks

Fantastic bails - will sign the petition just now and pass it on.

Tete it sounded like a good idea but the last time i checked our budget it was hiting the £18k mark - I think that's why we've not set a date yet - I refuse to pay that for 1 day, I mean could you imagine the honeymoon you could get for that!!! Although the longer we leave it the dearer it gets and apart from that we really need to get it sorted before OH thinks I've changed my mind :D. We're thinking of touring Europe for as long as possible, as OH doesn't like flying

Bails - re photographer my sis is gonna do ours, she's excellent and that'll be our wedding pressie from her (also means we can get as many copies of the pics as we want). We went to a friends wedding a while back and they spent HOURS taking the pics and all looked as if they had polls stuck up their backs. Hopefully with her doing ours they will be more natural and more like us.
  • Tour of Europe sounds lovely! But *faint* at the £18k!!!

I know what you mean about the photos - they take so long, I'd hate to think that 3 hours of my wedding day was taken up gurning for the camera, your smiles always look fake after a while anyway!

I quite like this idea CMD :T although wondering if I'd have any more money by then with kids :rotfl: I actually saw a ring today I'd be happy to wear, and it was R350 - £2.92 :rotfl:

This is definitely what I've got planned re photographer. And no hours of posed photos for us, just natural shots. This is why I'd like 2 photographers though so they can capture the essence of the day rather than formal fixed grins

    I know, it's rubbish

I kinda included all this in the budgets for each person already - I hope it's enough

That's for everything for me to look beautiful, so hopefully enough :rotfl: and I can make some savings too
    Hope this helps?

Thanks LazyDaisy :D I'm in contact with the Bath one and Nyk's is southern Scotland if that helps?

PepPop, without wishing to sound mean, your budget has made me feel a little better! Feel free to post it up here if you want some help cutting it back...then we'd both have more money for the dream honeymoon! :T

Just throwing a few ponderings into the mix here...

    1. Have you any local scout/guide groups fairly close by who may have marquee-type tentage? They would no doubt be grateful for a contribution to their cause or know someone who doesn't bump up the price as soon as the "W" word is uttered.
    2. Ditto local colleges...fashion for the dress &/or suits, more to your own individual tastes; catering for the--well--catering; photography; hair & make-up; design the stationary? One of ours had a travel agency too.

Even if it's only another avenue to consider, I hope it helps. Good Luck.

Thanks BMF, brill :T I was planning on asking at college about hair and makeup but hadn't considered the others so great idea! And the local Scouts etc too - will add that to the mix! :T

I love how helpful people are on MSE, it's such a lovely place to be (if you avoid the nasty threads! - I don't get why those people bother but :shhh: don't tell them or they may come over here and spread their poison :rotfl: )

I am missing my OH today :(... only a week now til he's back and I can have a cuddle :D

Thanks so much for that loisa, now THAT is a great idea!! :T:T I will get on the case as soon as OH gets back... any specific tips of where to go?
Your trip sounds amazing! Where did you go? We were the same about the wedding, it either had to be when we get back from here or 2012, as we want to start a family and I didn't want to get married whilst pregnant/carrying baby weight :p I've got to look at those photos for the rest of my life dammit :rotfl:

I love it, even my wedding thread turns into a travel discussion :T:rotfl:

Hi, we travelled around china and south east asia on the way out for around 3 months. We spent a couple of months in Australia before NZ. We thought about south america on the way back but settled on Indonesia, India and Nepal.

I wish we were still travellin! I don't think we realised how lucky we were. It was like ''oh, another tropical beach''!! arguing about having go out to eat every night, imagine that! It makes me laugh now.
I think my OH would move back to NZ. I'm undecided, but either way we had to come back and save up. It hasn't exactly gone to plan so far, but I've no regrets.

Anyway... back to the topic! We picked a couple of random little tailors shops on a back street in Kathmandu. Picked the material and told them what we wanted. OH only wanted work shirts and trousers so there wasn't too much at stake. Everyone spoke english so it was easy enough. There was a sort of indoor market/shopping mall with a couple of more upmarket shops with catalogues to look at which might be a better bet for something a bit more special.

OH also picked up ties, cufflinks, belts, jeans, t-shirts etc. I found nothing for myself though. The female fashions were a bit hmmm and shopping was the last thing on my mind by then.

I'm hoping to at least narrow down my wedding ideas by talking to friends and family over xmas.
