Well done on getting the thread started, Bails. :) If it is any help at all, I made the wedding invites, evening invites and RSVP cards for DD's wedding and we managed to source the favours online. She'd seen a tiara that she wanted in same place she bought her dress but they wanted £130 for that and another, I think, £80 for the twin hooped underskirt that she needed. We found the underskirts on *Bay for under £15 inc P&P, the pink crystal tiara at www.hair-we-go.co.uk for (I was utterly stunned by this!) a mere £6 and the favours were purchased via www.chocolate-parties.com/ for which, in true MSE fashion, I found a discount code. :D

I am in no way involved with any of the above websites and hope it's not wrong of me to list them, but we did a fair bit of G00gling and researching for the best quality we could find with reliable customer service and exceptional prices, so maybe they'll help someone else. :)

When making the invites, DD wanted pink and fluffy and sparkly and girly, so I got the card and marbled effect insert papers from Eur0ffice (with a disvcount code and got free gift as I doubled up with a normal stationery order) and all the bits & pieces for sticking onto them via eB!d online auctions. :) Let's just say that whilst others were paying £10 to £50 for their fascinators, mine cost about one tenth of that including p&p :D

Budgets are fantastic things, they make you focus on what's most important, they make you prioritise and they allow you the liberty of negotiating and haggling harder for THE best deal. Because most of our family had to travel and make a weekend of it, I even managed to secure 3 lots of accommodation for visitors by trading through our LETS group. :) LETS is fantastic for planning anything, isn't it?

THAT'S what I forgot to mention, thanks Nyk! LETS is where I'm hoping to find as many of the skills/ things we need that we don't already have, and trade our skills in return. Hopefully it will save us a lot of money!

Thanks for the other tips too Nyk, great! Will have a look at them tomorrow, bed is calling now x Really lovely to have friends on here for support, thankyou!

Hi Granny, Beanie, KPC and SF, great to see you here! :hello: Slept well thanks Granny, not a wedding dream in sight :D ...it was all about teaching :rotfl:
snapping_crocodile, your OH may yet surprise you...my didn't even believe in marriage for a long time! :rotfl:

Today's good news is that I've had an email back from my lovely mum - this is the good news, as she is technically challenged! :D In fact, I had two! :T She told me that the bridemaids' dresses she made for my SiL cost about £100 and there was an exceptional amount of material in the skirts. So that's great news, hopefully I can have the people I'd like :j (can't mention them yet as haven't asked all of them!)

We also won't need that much material to make the bunting either so I should be able to send this home with the inlaws :T My mum is so clever - I'm determined to learn some of her skills when I get home (she didn't have time to teach me before I left as she'd been busy with my SiL's dresses and then knitting umpteen outfits for her first grandchild, bless :D).

A friend of the family used to be part of the catering world so we're going to pick her brains about the most cost effective way to get hold of all the crockery, cutlery etc. I'm planning to borrow tablecloths or just use white sheets, especially as we'll hopefully have material from here over the top ;)

No more progress this end at the mo as I am busy applying for a job back home. When OH gets back on 12th, we're going to look through all the marquee info we've received and hopefully find one we can afford!

I'm having my first Tibetan lesson this afternoon, exciting! :j

One thing with the marquee hire is often prices get cheaper nearer the time as there is less chance they'll fill the date, so that might work in your favour!

Consider Etsy for really personal touches and handmade items, I'm looking to get some of my jewellery from there

Bails, I hadn't realised you're looking to have the wedding in September! As in, 2010?! Wow, you seem so relaxed about it all too! Will look forward to seeing how you get on :) xx
