Do you use treated water for your work? I have window cleaner who uses treated water but the windows never look clean after he's been round. I tried to cancel him but he gave me my money back after I told him that he'd left bird crap on the windo the last time he'd been. How do you politely cancel a window cleaner??
My parents would have been there at 4.30 just incase I arrived home early!
I once stopped a young boy (maybe 6 or 7) who was wondering around outside my old flat. The estate was newly build and I thought he was lost. It was pouring rain (bouncing off the ground it was so heavy!) and he only had trainers and a jacket on. I asked him if he needed help finding his way home to which he replied...my mum'sboyfriend is my house and mum told me to go out and play so they could have some time together :eek:
The water I use isn't so much treated. It's purified. Nothing is put into the water but all the stuff that the water company and nature put into the water is taken out before use. There are several parts to the process. A couple of "pre-filters" are used to remove first the sediment and then another to remove chlorine and carbon. This is followed by one or more membranes to remove most of the rest of what is left (the foregoing is called "reverse osmosis"). Then there is a final filter to remove any little bit that is left. This is a vessel that contains de-ionisation resin. This takes the water down to "pure" though, in practice, it is possible to use water that has maybe 5 parts per million contamination in it. I tend to change it once the meter reads 002. In very soft water areas such as Scotland, the very north of England, the western tip of Cornwall, ansd parts of North Wales, it is possible to dispense with the reverse osmosis part completely. Reverse osmosis is about cost. Although more expensive to set up and maintain, it is still far cheaper than using de-ionisation only in a hard water area.
Any one of a number of things could be going wrong with your window cleaning. First of all, it's fair to say that sometimes, on some types of window, it may take two or three cleans to achieve a decent standard. It's just the way it is sometimes. There are possible reasons for this that aren't the window cleaner's fault. So if he is on the first couple of cleans, I would suggest holding fire for the moment. Secondly, there are occasionally windows that will never come up perfect. Often this is due as much to the frames as anything else. Sometimes frames just bleed white residue each time they are cleaned. This can happen if the exterior coating has become oxidised. Faulty paintwork can cause this. Those old metal double glazed units can be particularly prone to this though it can happen to any window. I have two jobs like this o my entire round. I reached a compromise with the customer whereby I clean the tops with the pole system (for H & S reasons) and they settle for it being cleaner but imperfect, and I then clean the ground floor the traditional way.
It may simply be that your cleaner is using water that hasn't been fully purified. Unless he has one back at his base, he should carry a small meter that will tell him how the water is. Alternatively, he may just not be using enough water. I know it sounds odd but using more water is the best way of avoiding water marks.
Occasionally, the outside windows have become so ingrained (perhaps road pollution, tree sap, or even a dodgy overflow pipe) that no amount of brushing and rinsing will shift it. This can be easier to see from inside as you are looking out into the light. If this is the case, I tend to do a clean from the ladder using traditional tools and an abrasive washing up pad (note: this MUST be the non scratch variety - normally white pad).
Although it's rare to be called back to a job, most times this has happened the marking has actually been on the inside. If I had left some bird poo on a window, I would want the customer to phone me soon after the clean to give me the opportunity to put it right.
Generally, on most windows most of the time, the pure water pole method should be as good as a traditional clean - once the first couple of cleans are out of the way.
If you really do wish to still cancel now you know a bit more about it, why not just write him a brief letter saying that you wish to cancel. No need to give a reason. When I get a mystery cancellation, I just assume that money is an issue. It's also possible that someone is unhappy with my work but doesn't want to say.
I wouldn't say this to a customer but it is more cost effective to work at a decent pace and take a chance that the occasional customer is unhappy and cancels than to take lots of time on every job ensuring a perfect finish rather than a reasonable one. This isn't to be misunderstood as me not caring less and giving a rubbish job - because that wouldn't be the case.
Regarding that young child you found, I think his guardian(s) want shooting.0 -
No PAD today. My bank is doing "essential maintenance" on the bill payment section of the system and won't be up and running until 7 AM tomorrow.
I'm getting withdrawals here.
I could phone them up to make the PAD for me but the call would cost nearly as much as the PAD so I won't bother.0 -
£10.62 for me today please

Well done Jo41 on being debt free. You must feel great about it.
Have been full of cold for a few days, went to try to buy some 'cold remedy' stuff to make myself feel better. I'm allergic to paracetamol and couldn't see anything with just aspirin in, so asked at the counter and the girl just didn't get it! Kept giving me stuff with a great big notice 'Contains paracetamol' and said I could take it because it has ibufrofen in. Pardon? What?
Ended up with old fashioned Beechams powders and went home took it with hot lemon and honey.
