Keza hope you feel better soon. This is the first proper cold I've had for ages, I'd forgotten how rotten it makes you feel. Feel better for having been out in the fresh air today though.
teeni I'm sure someone else will say it but once you're here you never really leave!
callan05 - you weren't naughty., and as far as i know there isn't a naught corner. It's just so much easier to see, especially in a long post with other numbers in.
Anyways, off to play with my new printer. Splashed out and bought a scanner/printer which was on offer. I've justified it to myself because I can do more unusual craft stuff and some more professional looking labels. Paulgonnabedebtfree wrote: »The water I use isn't so much treated. It's purified. Nothing is put into the water but all the stuff that the water company and nature put into the water is taken out before use. The window cleaner told me they put tablets in it to 'clean' it - calcuim maybe? There are several parts to the process. A couple of "pre-filters" are used to remove first the sediment and then another to remove chlorine and carbon. This is followed by one or more membranes to remove most of the rest of what is left (the foregoing is called "reverse osmosis"). Then there is a final filter to remove any little bit that is left. This is a vessel that contains de-ionisation resin. This takes the water down to "pure" though, in practice, it is possible to use water that has maybe 5 parts per million contamination in it. Sounds like quite a complicated process! I tend to change it once the meter reads 002. In very soft water areas such as Scotland, the very north of England, the western tip of Cornwall, ansd parts of North Wales, it is possible to dispense with the reverse osmosis part completely. Reverse osmosis is about cost. Although more expensive to set up and maintain, it is still far cheaper than using de-ionisation only in a hard water area.
Any one of a number of things could be going wrong with your window cleaning. First of all, it's fair to say that sometimes, on some types of window, it may take two or three cleans to achieve a decent standard. It's just the way it is sometimes. There are possible reasons for this that aren't the window cleaner's fault. So if he is on the first couple of cleans, I would suggest holding fire for the moment. He's been coming round for over a year! I'll give him his due though - he may not be able to see the dirt as it's usually raining when he's cleaning them  Secondly, there are occasionally windows that will never come up perfect. Often this is due as much to the frames as anything else. Sometimes frames just bleed white residue each time they are cleaned. This can happen if the exterior coating has become oxidised. Faulty paintwork can cause this. Those old metal double glazed units can be particularly prone to this though it can happen to any window. The windows are all new as it was a newly built house we moved into (we moved from a newly built flat on the same estate and if we're out in the garden we can see our old flat!) I have two jobs like this o my entire round. I reached a compromise with the customer whereby I clean the tops with the pole system (for H & S reasons) and they settle for it being cleaner but imperfect, and I then clean the ground floor the traditional way. He won't clean them the traditional way!
It may simply be that your cleaner is using water that hasn't been fully purified. Unless he has one back at his base, he should carry a small meter that will tell him how the water is. Alternatively, he may just not be using enough water. I know it sounds odd but using more water is the best way of avoiding water marks. This could be what's wrong then, he does a quick 'sweep' over the window and is off to the next house, I know this may sound terrible but it seems to be more about the money now than actually doing his job.
Occasionally, the outside windows have become so ingrained (perhaps road pollution, tree sap, or even a dodgy overflow pipe) that no amount of brushing and rinsing will shift it. This can be easier to see from inside as you are looking out into the light. If this is the case, I tend to do a clean from the ladder using traditional tools and an abrasive washing up pad (note: this MUST be the non scratch variety - normally white pad).
Although it's rare to be called back to a job, most times this has happened the marking has actually been on the inside. If I had left some bird poo on a window, I would want the customer to phone me soon after the clean to give me the opportunity to put it right.
Generally, on most windows most of the time, the pure water pole method should be as good as a traditional clean - once the first couple of cleans are out of the way.
If you really do wish to still cancel now you know a bit more about it, why not just write him a brief letter saying that you wish to cancel. No need to give a reason. When I get a mystery cancellation, I just assume that money is an issue. It's also possible that someone is unhappy with my work but doesn't want to say.
I wouldn't say this to a customer but it is more cost effective to work at a decent pace and take a chance that the occasional customer is unhappy and cancels than to take lots of time on every job ensuring a perfect finish rather than a reasonable one. This isn't to be misunderstood as me not caring less and giving a rubbish job - because that wouldn't be the case. He isn't even here 5mins and he's away - is that normal? He's doing 11 normal sized windows, a small window in the front door and 3 6ft windows.
Regarding that young child you found, I think his guardian(s) want shooting.
Thank you for your reply. Now I know more about it I can ask him a few harmless questions next time he's here. I know he isn't short of a few quid as they've got 2 huge contracts that I know of and do all the local guest houses and loads of people on the estate that I live on.Started PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

Anyway Gilli my offical pad today is another £5.00 please but I have done an unoffical pad of £25.00 (min payment to MBNA which I don't normally count) if you'd like to add that to the monthly total to bring us that we bit closer to the half a million mark!
