Tv license issue..

Not sure if this is the best palce to post as it isnt necessarily 'digital' tv, so feel free to move this thread!
Basically i moved into my new flat about a month ago with the other half.
In the past 5 weeks we have not once watched tv, instead just hooking up the dvd player and FINALLY making our way through the many tv box sets we have. (4 seasons of prison break, 7 of 24.. and loads others!)
We dont have any aerials plugged in to either tv (one in lounge one in bedroom), and ive checked and they dont receive any picture.
Im just looking (if possible) for an email adress so i can mail the tv license people to let them know i dont watch tv on the premises so they can 'update their records' (theyve alread done this by phone but still gettting letters..)
I should probably buy a printer and print off a letter and mail it but trying to save £££'s !. (yes i could always hand write it.. but my hand writing is the worst youve ever seen, and would probably end up with them saying they didnt update there records as they couldnt read it..:rotfl:).
IS there an email address i can do this on?, their website really doesnt have any helpful contact info for people who dont want a license...
Also, is it correct that i have to arrange a visit for inspectors to come and 'confirm' the situation?. I mean if i have to, so be it. I Just find it a little cheeky that they expect me to prove to them i dont legally require a license, when the law requires the exact opposite. After the wasted time on phone calls too i kind of feel a little annoyed if i have to give any more time to them. But like i said, if there is no other way to stop the hassle.... i guess a small inconvenience is better in the long run

Lol.. i just want the letters to stop, and whatever 'visit' that needs to be made to just get over with!0 -
if your televisions are capable of receiving transmissions then you have to have a license.
Try plugging them in, putting the aerial in, if you get any sort of picture your stuffed.
If you really dont want to buy a license why not get a big portable DVD player.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
you've informed them about your situation & you're all legal & above board, so just ignore/bin the lettersNovaBlack100 wrote: »Lol.. i just want the letters to stop, and whatever 'visit' that needs to be made to just get over with!
you don't need to do anything about arranging a visit, when I was without a licence for a few years they said someone would call to check, but in the end no-one ever showed up0 -

so they should be fineNovaBlack100 wrote: »We dont have any aerials plugged in to either tv (one in lounge one in bedroom), and ive checked and they dont receive any picture.
there's really no reason to go to the expense of a buying a portable player when they've already got two perfectly good tellys & maybe like me the OP prefers to watch DVDs/Blu-Rays on a large screen
I only have a licence because my son's living with me just now, as soon as he moves into his own place I'm cancelling the cable & going licence-free again0 -

Only if they are used to receive live broadcasts, you can have as many televisions as you want and if they are not used to receive television programs as they are broadcast you do not need a licence.:rolleyes:0 -

The letters wont stop & you will continue to get threats.
Just forget about it & post the letters back if you want.
One day someone will knock on the door. Let them in & offer them a cup of tea. Then forget about it..Not Again0 -
no-one ever showed up to check on me, but that might have been because I was living in the back of beyond at the time1984ReturnsForReal wrote: »One day someone will knock on the door. Let them in & offer them a cup of tea. Then forget about it..
they'd have been welcome  the telly was solely being used for DVDs & gaming at that time0 -

Interesting post - just the 100% wrong.
The OP does not need a licence. End of.0 -

And when they do tell them to f**k off.
If they are from TVL then they have no right of entry to your property.0
