As others correctly point out, you can have a house full of televisions. Provided you do not watch TV as it is broadcast (including on computers or mobile phones) then a TV licence is not required. As the OP has done, it is recommended that they are detuned.
Remember that the goons from TV licencing have no right of entry to your house, and you are not obliged to tell them anything. They have no special powers to "interview you under caution" or any of the other nonsense they come up with. They are simply employees of a private company (The Capita Group plc) who have a contract with the BBC. At the end of the day, they have exactly the same rights as the paperboy to enter your premises/property, or ask you as to whether you have televisions and the like.
You are under no obligation whatsoever to inform them that you have no requirement for a television licence, and you certainly do not have to prove (by way of visit, letter or any other interaction or communication) that you do not need one.
The easiest way to proceed is to simply ignore them - don't waste the cost of a stamp or a phone call. If they want to enter your home, then they need a warrant from the court which is to be executed in the presence of a police officer - and a court will not issue a warrant simply on the basis of not having a licence, or non-cooperation with TVL/BBC.0 -

Just forget about it & post the letters back if you want.
One day someone will knock on the door. Let them in & offer them a cup of tea. Then forget about it..
Dont do that! I'm in court mid November for not having one in March,I lost my job around New Year due to 'restructuring' & my payments lapsed, then again the other month when I was working away with the TA.Took me a few weeks to get one due to family illnesses & even tho I've got one now,It has to be backdated!:mad:0 -
From the capita website:
Since then we have moved from licence enforcement to a more proactive, sales focussed approach, including a successful doorstep sales operation which has created 110 new jobs. Working closely with our partners, we have reduced the rate of evasion from 5.7% to 5.1% and raised the proportion of Direct Debit customers by 21%. We have also generated an extra 330,000 TV licence sales in the last 2 years.
They are little more than a sales company with some fairly heavy-handed sales tactics. Treat their communciations in exactly the same way you deal with all other unwanted sales material.0 -

how did they prove you were watching television as it was broadcast?0 -
Why not let them in & offer them a cup of tea??
You could record the conversation & get them for purgery when they take you to court..
After all you are doing nothing wrong...Not Again0 -
After next year its going to be a lot easier to prove that the TV is not used for live broadcasts - the older analog sets will not receive anything thru an aerial without a Freeview device of some kind.0

you're absolutely right
but I think I'd have let them in for having the sheer endurance & tenacity to actually make it to where I was living at the time :rotfl:
That happened to me once.
I knocked on the door in the middle of nowhere and a man answered. I said " Is this B***** Bridge Pumping Station, Back of Beyond Lane, Middle of Nowhere etc?"
"Yes", he replied.
"Can I see your television licence then?"
"I haven't got one"
"Why not?"
"Because I didn't think you'd ever find me out here!"0 -
if your televisions are capable of receiving transmissions then you have to have a license.
Try plugging them in, putting the aerial in, if you get any sort of picture your stuffed.
If you really dont want to buy a license why not get a big portable DVD player.
as posted in the OP
''We dont have any aerials plugged in to either tv (one in lounge one in bedroom), and ive checked and they dont receive any picture.''
And how would i play my games consoles on a portable DVD player?0
