Some of the posters in this thread really do need to read up on what the law requires for owning a TV.

Just having a TV does NOT require a license.
It is the using it to "watch broadcasts at the time they are broadcast" that requires the license.
How many times do the other posters need to tell you this?

Having one does not, having a DVD player does not, having a video recorder does not, even having a TV conected to an aerial and tuned in does not.

It is the actual "use" of the equipment to watch a show at the same time it is broadcast that requires the license.

So when the TV license people turn up, how do they manage to prove that you watch broadcasts at the time they are broadcast? If you don't have a TV but do have a laptop computer connected to the internet, can they try to force you to pay?

Just interested to find out how they actually prosecute anyone for not having a TV license.
