    Hi All

Wedding make-up - I can't recommend this guy enough! Trial run £20 and on the day he came to my hotel and did my make up for £35. Really friendly guy - I'm no model and he put me at ease and the make up was exquisite!

For Flowers go to Joyce at http://www.belfastblooms.com/

We got married at Belfast Castle and the photos we got in the gardens were fabulous.

As it was 2nd time around for both of us we had our reception at the Bellevue on the antrim road - the staff were amazing and the food outstanding.

  • We had Glen Houston Ents www.ghentertainment.co.uk for our entertainment.

Had & band and DJ. Band was Peach, fantastic 5 piece live band & the DJ came recommended to us - Kevin McMullan. Both booked through G Houston.

Been to 2 weddings since, my sisters & a friend & both had the DJ above for their entertainment right through the night. for 5 hours constant the floor was packed & he done various party games to entertain everyone!

    Highly recommended
  • hi, i got married 3 years ago and tried to keep my spending to a minimum as i couldnt justify spending loads of money on 1 day. Wedding dress direct dresses kennedy way belfast end of line £300, Wedding invites made myself, bridesmaid dresses debenhams sale, cake crumbs on the springfield road absolutly gorge and not too pricey, and do wot i did also i got family members to pay for stuff like photographers and band instad of giving pressies as we already have a house and family there was nothing we needed. i didnt have chair covers but coincidently have found myself 3 years down the line doing them for a living lol. i bought some simple glass plates from au naturelle ans had candles burning on them and a few bouquets of balloons to dress the venue out. the only thing i did splash out on was my cars i wanted something special to surprise my hubby on the big day and i got him the General Lee from the dukes of hazzard, so if your looking a car thats a bit out of the ordinary go there, a team van, trotters independant traders van, beatles limos alsorts check out the website starcarhire larne. hope i have helped in some way

    Bridesmaid dresses
    Photographer
    Entertainment
Reception decoration - chair covers etc
    Cars
    Hairdresser
    Makeup Artist

I've booked my venue and bought my dress (from a shop that was closing down in Limavady but thats as far as I've got!)

i got married in 2008 and i can tell you alot of the things you think you need you dont, e.g. chair covers.

I got my bridesmaid dresses from Debenhams. £100 for dress, wrap and handbag for each bridesmaid.

Friend of mine took the photos and they were exactly what i wanted. Nice and relaxed not posed to hell and more about the photographer than the wedding.

Entertainment. A dj with a list of songs you want. We also hired a table magician and instead of entertaining the adults he kept all the kids entertained for hours and made balloon animals and stuff. Well worth it.

Decoration. As stated chair covers are a waste of money. I went all out on the flowers for my wedding (about £1000) but the thing everyone remembers about my wedding is the decoration for the evening do. We had a pirate theme and spent about £150-200 on pirate things like flags confetti ballons and we had little treasure boxes on each table with toys and sweets. We even got pirate napkins and sticks for the evening buffet, Went down better than my grands worth of flowers.

For a hairdresser and make-up artist ask at your local tech for people doing training. The girls/boys will do it for cheap and have a trail run to make sure your happy with it.

Good luck it will be the best day ever!!

    Hi All,

I got married in Sep and had the shock of my life pricing chair covers to hire before the wedding so I ended up buying them myself as it worked out cheaper. I have now turned the chair covers into a business to help brides to be like myself who want everything for the dream wedding but dont want to spend a huge amount of moneyto get it as at the end of the day chair covers yes are very pretty and make a venue but they are something you can do without. Anyway I am doing a few offers at the minute but the best for most people is up to a max of 150 chair covers (sashes included if I have the colour in stock if not I can purchase for you to match your colour scheme) on my DIY option for £300 basically take advantage of friends & family who will be about on the day to set up for you or if you are lucky your venue will do it for you as well. I also can set up for a small fee if needed but it really is that easy to do that most people are happy to do it themselves. I also have a fairylight backdrop which if hiring out with the covers i would charge £500 in total. So if anyone in Northern Ireland is looking for any help with their wedding please feel free to contact me or check out my website where I also have a find it for less service as the best bit about my own wedding was my dress 99p brand new made to fit and gorgeous !!!

Alot of weddings we have been in attendance at are not having a band they are having disco only and often they have been using Hotel's resident D.J. I am a qualified Wedding Planner and have my certificate to proof it, although I do not really have the time for WP due to my other Chocolate business but if I can be of any help please advise and I'll do my best for free.

We didn't get married over here but we did have an evening reception so I have a bit of knowledge.

Flowers - cannot recommend Remarkable Flowers on the Holywood Road enough (opposite the Strand cinema)

Cake - as others have said, M&S do fantastic cakes. We have a cake stand loaned at the Crawfordsburn Inn so we were able to have both fruit & madeira cakes together. If you go to Craft World in Belfast City Centre you can get bits 'n' pieces for cake decoration such as fine wire which my mum decorated with beads I got from eBay. Also, you could buy ready to make favour boxes and decorate with ribbon and mini roses and stick your sugared almonds or similar in them.

Music - we had Derek West as our DJ and a friend of ours also used him for her wedding a yeal later.

Bridesmaid - don't go to a bridal shop for these as you'll get ripped off. Try Debenhams or even BHS as we got a beautiful outfit for my step-daughter including dress, bag and shoes for around £50. My wedding shoes were also from BHS as they were the nicest I had seen.

P.S. don't forget you something old, new, borrowed, blue and a sixpence in your shoe (I had an old sixpence taped under my shoe on the big day)

unfortunately i got married many many moons ago - but i still love talking about wedding hype and bargains / deals etc. that come hand in hand with MSE.

I organised a lot of my sister's wedding, so got the chance to relive a bit of it... the organising and being chief bridesmaid.

We also used Joyce from Belfast Blooms - www.belfastblooms.com - fantastic! :)

I sorted out her cake with Jenny from bangor - www.jennyscakes.co.uk

Photos - we used annette n sean from 4ever photos - www.4everphotos.net - really nice people and fantastic album they done.

Video - was done by Paul Gilmore i think was his name - www.pgvideos.co.uk

Entertainment - we had Juice who came highly recommended - www.juiceentertainment.co.uk - as did the DJ (Barney) from Startrax - www.startraxdisco.com

As for dresses etc. - my sister got the last say on where / when she was buying them from, which i didn't mind - took a bit of the stress out of it for me.
