  • Hi. I hope no one minds me resurrecting this thread. OH has proposed, woo hoo!! Only after the initial high, I'm now worried, lol! I've looked at some venues on-line and have no idea how we could afford them. We'd ideally like to get married in the hotel where we have the reception but some charge you for two room hires :-(. We're thinking of May 2011 and wondered if anyone had any tips for me or recommendations for places that aren't going to leave us in debt until our 25th wedding aniversary! We're in Belfast by the way. We went to look at the Ballymac but the room where the weddings are conducted only hold 50 people and I'm not keen on starting world war III by excluding some relatives!

    Any hints/advice gratefully received!!

  • the clairon in carrick are offering a deal in 2011 i think for 1250 for a sit down meal for 100 guests - http://www.clarioncarrick.com and you can have your wedding there included in that price :)

I have booked my wedding there for 2010 after seeing the room and tasting the food :)

lol I got married 3yrs ago and we had paul from 5 star disco he was brill really in tune with what our guests were interested in as well as the more unusual requests we had for him. He'd never been asked for our first dance song before.

We had cards from a place called Limelight limos they were my something blue and cake from M and S which the florist added some fresh flowers to and cake topper from ebay along with favours and favours bags

I also gave my table centers to people as gifts

try ebay and confetti for all the little touches guestbook was from tesco along with a few other bits and bridesmaids dress from BHS although my friend got hers in the coast sale

I remember when we went looking at venues i couldnt believe that nearly everywhere had a minimum numbers policy of 85 to 100 people when it came to the reception we had 70 people

the culloden's is only 50 so they worked out better value than anywhere else

as for somewhere to do the whole thing how about the cultra inn

  • In 4 years one after the other myself and my brother and two sisters got married we all used a lady in Portadown for our dresses Hunny Bee Bridal Design 02838 331873. We got exactly what we wanted because as well as selling dresses she makes them so you choose your design or bring a pic from a celebrity mag and she makes it. Pricewise its not even expensive in comparison to buying from shops.

I bought the mens suits off ebay and needed one for a 12 year old boy so i bought the largest size and she cut it down and remade it to fit him saved loadz.
  • Wow, Paul Brady is doing wedding entertainment! I can't really imagine anyone dancing to The Island

  • Could anyone advise on some moneysaving ideas on wedding reception music. Our wedding is y this summer and we are looking for something like a string quartet, jazz band etc to entertain the guests before dinner, but the prices are around 500 plus for this.

What did everyone else have? Any ideas welcome!

Regarding music at pre dinner reception we have been in attendance @ weddings with music by a band or Harpist there and often especially with a Harpist they cannt be heard and lots of people aren't interested and with a band depending on were Bar is and your guests are located some move out because of noise. Instead of having a band why not have have hotel provide background music and entertain your guests with guest what - Chocolate Fountain? I have attended lots of wedding with Choco Fountain before dinner and Fountain has gone down a treat, with us guests can come up and down as often as they like and even if they want something without chocolate that's not a problem, and no we have never had a mess as we provide a fully attended service, also it gets the 2 families mixing its a centre point and believe me all age groups love it. If you are interested send me a PM and I can give you full details
