I once installed cable and telecoms for cable, the companies I worked for as a sub contractor and training their own (useless) staff...all have poor sucker customers whos phone connections are out in the street in a big green box that anyone can tap into and use...and a large % of them have cables that are damaged and repaired with insulation tape rather than a new cable being pulled .

The number of times I have met customers who thought that fibre optics entered their homes and made them some kind of sci-fi TV viewer I lost count of. They can be forgiven that though since Virgin still give this impression yet don't get past the previously mentioned green boxes with fibre in almost all areas.

Gratz to the guys who keep Sir Richard smiling out there on Necker Island.

PS. My bet is that the OP had a eurovox and wasn't intending to pay them much longer anyway...this is the best way out of contract

You obviously didn't do work for Virgin Media, if you did, you would know that Richard Branson doesn't own Virgin Media, he just licenses the brand name to NTL Telewest.

Speaking to a couple of lads I worked with at NTL/VM,the processes they are useing now are Telewest & a load of old ****!
Ironically,I've applied for the job with VM I was made redundent from when it was advertised 2 week ago.

Virgin would have disconnected your service for one of a few reasons...

    1. You were right and they have decided to remove the contract (however this is unlikely as they do not normally disconnect service rather just keep the service running until you decide to leave).

    2. You were so **** on the phone with them they made the decision to drop you as a customer. It happens and can result in ban from getting service from the company... did you in any way threaten any advisors on the phone. I have seen people passed to security and banned for 40 years at a property for doing similar things...

    3. You asked to cancel :P.
    I'm betting number 2, lol.

I'd be happy with anything over 8mb based on what I get on a BT line, and the price Virgin charge for the 50mb service.

After redundency from NTL,I went to work for Sky,one 'customer' who,(in all honesty looked dodgy, living in a bedsit in student land) when I informed him I could'nt install his Sky due to no line of sight caused by high 'new build' appartment blocks, began to get verbally & physically abusive, throwing my tools at me & pushing me out of his house. (!!!!!!! good job my hammer was in my tool belt!)
When I called Sky & the girl phoned him,he got abusive with her so he got banned from getting Sky ever again!

As to the OP's complaint, a Victor Melgrew & that bloke, the Dad,of the Harry Enfield show, you know; "You dont want to do it like thaaat...You want to do it like thisss!" cross comes to mind!

    ...not quite.

    "50 meg" means nothing. 50 MBIT is a more appropriate term, and 50 mbit = (50 / 8) mb/s = 6.25 MB/s.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

6.2 mb/sec is 6.2 meg and no where near 50 meg let alone 62 meg

    *doh*

Not at all - "50 meg" is a file size. 50mbit is what the service actually is which is 50 megabit per second, to find the result in megabytes you need to divide by 8...
