Hi
Does anyone find that chicken goes a bit stringy in the slow cooker?
I love my slow cooker to bits but I find it really comes into it's own when I cook beef, but maybe I am using the wrong cuts of chicken but I only really like the breast.
Thanks0 -

Yes I find if I use chicken thigh meat it's fine but if I use chicken breast then it seems to go really "dry" - even cooked in lots of liquid in a casserole.
The way round this that I found, was to lightly fry the chicken first to seal the outsides before putting into the slow cooker, and then it was better.
Turkey breast meat doesn't seem to have such a problem going "dry" and I never fry that off first - no idea whyworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Thanks newlywed.
Since I never fry any meat or chicken off before putting it in the slow cooker, I would never have found this out on my own.0 -
I only ever use chicken thigh pieces for casseroles - I keep the breast fillets for cooking on the griddle/non-stick pan.0

hi all i have trawled the boards and cant find a nice warming chicken stew recipe.i have lotsa veg rice pasta chicken thighs and seasonings herbs and a slow cooker just need the recipe (preferably low fat) if anyone can help

I'd brown the chicken with chopped onion and garlic. I'd then add the chopped veg and tinned tomatoes, season and simmer until the chicken's cooked.
We have an older thread on chicken casseroles, so I'll ad this one to it.

Hi everyone, can anyone suggest a nice casserole recipe? as part of my 2009 Money saving plan I've started throwing all the veg which is slightly past it's best into a casserole dish every week rather than throwing it away.
I've been cooking with a tin of chopped toms, veg stock and some dried herbs but it just tastes a bit boring. Can anyone suggest a way to make this nicer?!
BTW I am veggie so it's made with Quorn rather than meat
Thanks everyone0 -
I always put a squirt of tomato puree and crushed garlic in mine on top of what you have already mentioned oh and a couple of bay leaves too.Debt busting! Jan 2014 £7632.50 £7445.80

sprig of fresh thyme or rosemary, some lentils, barley, beans or pulses,
chestnuts would be great for flavour and protein~!!£5000 debt cleared thanks to MSE advice :money:0 -
I always find that a tablespoon or two of wine and one of soy sauce adds depth of flavour to veggie casseroles.0
