I don't doubt for a second that EON are investigating this issue - Helena and Malc (the EON reps) have been in touch via PM - yet this afternoon a further sales call was received claiming the same competition (vofferu) had been entered and that in order to qualify entry, a gas and electricity quote was required.

More desperate tactics from a desperate energy company? Are they so hard up for business that they have to make repeated calls to customers who very recently left their company and are registered with the TPS?

    I'll drop Helena a PM now :)

It would appear this isn't the only case where EON has cold-called under the cover of a supposed "competition":

Yep, We've been pestered by this so called 'competition' quote too.

Nobody here, has entered such a competition either.

We're registered with the pointless TPS too.

I just told them I was already a customer and the calls stopped.

Looks to me like this outfit have a deal with eON which gives them commission or a fee if they sign people up - and on their own initiative they have put together this competition and sourced contact details.

Some answers form eON would be good.

I reported Eon to Trading Standards, Watchdog, Consumer Direct and a handful of other places last month for this. My mother was being hounded 5 times a day by phone calls from this outfit claiming to be ringing 'on behalf of' Eon. She strung them out long enough, got past the competition nonsense and it was a straight simple sales cold call direct from Eon.

A Trading Standards investigation is ongoing.

As your PM feature on this forum is no longer available, would you kindly let me know (not on the open forum) of any further response to our correspondence regarding unsolicited sales calls from EON, which we've been discussing for a few weeks now?

I have not heard back from you since you confirmed receipt of my PM and would value your response to the reasonable questions I put to you in my message of 09-11-2009.

I will look forward to your response.

I think all company representatives have had their PM facilities disabled by the powers that be "as this removes solutions from the forum" thereby not benefitting the MSE community as a whole.

That's correct Premier - it's a change brought in by MSE. The announcement was only made this afternoon after I'd made the above post.

However, that does not in any way explain why EON have gone silent on the concerning issue of the integrity of our data in the context of the unsolicited calls we have received.

Perhaps an open response from EON the following issues would be more appropriate:

    1) What is EON's view on the first call being abruptly terminated when it was clear I wouldn't confirm my identity to a then unknown and unconfirmed entity?

    2) Is such behaviour appropriate? Is such behaviour representative of EON's customer service standards?

    3) I requested that the caller explain how they had acquired the details quoted during the phone call. The response was termination of the call. Does EON consider that a customer asking for information to which they are entitled under the Data Protection Act is somehow unreasonable?

    4) Was it reasonable for a member of staff to refuse cooperation with my straightforward request or otherwise explain that he either did not have the relevant information to hand, or advise that we should make a formal subject access request under the Data Protection Act?

I shall look forward to EON's response :)
