E.on last night revealed that 100s of their customers bank details have been revealed because of a "mix up" and they are attempting to find out how this happened.

Over 800 customers have been affected by this "mix up" and, so far, only half have been informed of this blunder by their supplier.

Details revealed include customers names, addresses, bank details and possibly their mobile phone number.

    Hi Premier,

Quite right, the information you have posted is spot on, let me just clarify a few points that might be of interest.

The Customers affected are central heating care customers living in the Nottingham area. The details of these affected customers have been sent to customers in Bradford and Coventry.

We have already contacted half the customers affected and are in the process of contacting the other half.

We have identified the customers affected.

Again this only affects central heating care customers in the Nottingham area.

As soon as I know any more info, I will let you know.

...The Customers affected are central heating care customers living in the Nottingham area. The details of these affected customers have been sent to customers in Bradford and Coventry...

Are you absolutely sure on this?

According to the lady who contacted the BBC who lives in Coventry, she received the details of someone who lives in Bradford (as well as someone else that lives in Nottingham).

Or is that just a coincidence that the customer that has purchased central heating care for a property in Nottingham has a mailing address in Bradford, a location that coincidentally details have been sent to.

The BBC reported that an E.On spokesman confirmed 817 customers had been affected nationally .

Maybe they should change their name to P.On?

  • Assuming these punters also take at least one fuel from Eon, and should they now decide to move to pastures new, will Eon still not grant the discount on these punter's final bills or are there grounds for not acting like sore losers in this instance?

Just to up date your further, I have been given a bit more info.

The details that have been released are not just from Nottingham as I said earlier, they could be from customers nationally.

We have tried to contact all of the customers affected and currently trying to reach those we have not been able to get through to. We will also be writing to the affected customers.

I live in Hertfordshire and have been sent the name address and phone number of someone in Leicester and the bank account and sort code of another customer in Leicester.
We are disgusted that this error has been made, this is the very information you protect and to think that my details have been sent to someone else for them to do with what they wish is beyond me. Someone could set up direct debit for mobile phones or anything for that matter with this info.

I called eon about this and was told to destroy the info I had been sent and that i would be receiving a letter from them. If the person that has received my info is not as honest as I am they really could do what ever they choose with this PRIVATE information.

Can anyone advise me on what sort of an apology/ we should expect from eon for this misuse of our personal information?
How worried should we be about this?

If you get any apology, it'll be one in writing I suspect.

However, that may just be to those who had their details released, not those who have received them.

Btw, how did you stumble across this thread? It was buried many pages back and I notice you had only made 1 previous post with that user account of yours and that was 18 months ago and about mortgage charges.

I would expect a half-decent company to issue a long-term comprehensive identity theft insurance policy for all affected users with appropriate compensation as an absolute minimum.

However this is EON and their wonderful customer service (notable sarcasm intended) so don't get your hopes up

Urm, used the search button and typed in Eon! I'm quite concerned about this and Eon have fobbed me off on the phone to avoid giving an answer.

As for the amount of posts I have made... all I can say is I have a life away from the internet and only used it when I need something (isn't that what its there for?)
