I was there a few months ago- a few empties.
The thing is Cabots is right next to the normal shopping centre, the streets all merge.Loads of those units were shut/ boarded.
At the end of the day, there are far too many retail units in this country anyone with eyes can see it. Id like to see them refuse any more planning permission for more we have plenty as it is.
agree with you though Carol the stuff we were looking at was tipping 285- now 175 - in good-ish ( for london) areas too.

I went once, and it wasn't very busy. I think part of the problem with Bristol for shopping is the Mall, way out west on the M5, has bigger shops than things in the central places. And the John Lewis is there. I was quite whoopdeedo about a local Harvey Nichols, but it reminded me of a department store equivalent of a Tesco Metro.
I also remember getting dispondant about things like Pat Val having become chains....all that stuff, Pat Val, Giraffe etc: its ok...but why go in Bristol rather than anywhere else: I like things that ar specific to a place, that have some indviduality and connection with the place they are in.0 -
OK, OK. Trouble is I never go shopping, certainly not to a shopping centre place, so I don't really know what's inside these disgusting hell holes.Naughty

Scottish stereotypes not allowed.
But here's a guess.
Shops in order as you walk in. They are all overpriced btw. The more 'designer' - the more overpriced. Stick a label on a pair of jeans and sell it to absolute idiots.
Shoes, jeans, lingerie, perfume, cameras, jeans, shoes, cafe, gadget shop.
Losing will to live.
More shoes, jeans, whatever, yawn.
I am out of there already. They don't have what I want. Or I gave up wanting it.
Oh and people. Fat, dirty, stinking, stupid, greedy, dead eyed, deader brained people.
I don't do a lot of shopping.0 -

I don't do a lot of shopping.
Obviously not.
Do you like shopping in a farmers market (for bread and pricey cheese)? Or a crafty type place or a foody deli type place or....or lush antiques shop?
Or do you hate shopping per se?0 -

Bet Hamish wont be best pleased though, just look at all them people not buying aberdeen houses!
Well, he's not here so maybe he's there?0 -
I realise some shopping has to be done. Food, petrol, occasional electrical items or shudder.. clothes. I go with a clear idea of what I want, ignore virtually everything else on display and buy it. Object to get in and out like a military precision operation. I am not a browser.Obviously not.

On the rare occasions I buy something that wasn't on the list I feel guilty and dirty. Spending money does not make me feel good. This is a rare slip into anecdotal - it is why I am more popular when pretending to be someone else.0 -

Re Nollag and his sudden concern for FTB's. What nonsense.
Not at all. I've always been concerned about mortgage availability for FTBs, as they are central to any recovery in the market.
I've noticed that they are coming back to the market at a great speed now, which is excellent news for house prices !!

Would you be equally concerned about high house prices?nollag2006 wrote: »Not at all. I've always been concerned about mortgage availability for FTBs, as they are central to any recovery in the market.
