re the shopping centre, Cabots Circus in Bristol, then that Glocester Docks place ...was it Bo reporting on that? opened fairly early on in the crunch. I know initially Cabot's Circus was struggling...but I have no idea how its doing now, any body know?0

Load of new house prices for one area I'm tracking just come in. Am pleased to report that whatever is going on nationally, or even in average terms in my area, the sort of houses I'm looking at are still all coming in at 2004 prices - under 250K.
Were up to 350K at peak.

It was not about the building itself, it was about the people queuing up to spend money during this recession, hence the pictures of how busy it was.
I notice a lot of men...youngish men hanging around to go shopping.
Is it in an Aberdeen thing?0 -

Peak co-incided with mortgage rates around BOE + 0.5-1, so say 1.5%. Mortgage rates now are nearer 5%. Assume 50k deposit.
350k-50k=300k @ 1.5% IO = 375 per month
250k-50k=200k @ 5% IO = 833 per month.
I'm guessing rental values on that would be 850- 1000.
So, with current mortgages available, you may as well stay renting; unless you think house prices are going to increase.
(using IO as example, 'cos I'm comparing it with renting).I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Re: Shopping Centre - anyone would think it was the Second Coming. Shop opens rather than going bust - whoop de f'cking doo.
Re Nollag and his sudden concern for FTB's. What nonsense.0 -
OK...Worked out more..they seem to be queueing for Apple shop and pics show Apple shop full....it's a man thing.
I mean, one pic showed a queue within those crowd controller posts and the shops next to them were shut...so looks like a promo to me...and the queue was being directed to the shop with the promo.
Didn't Martin L report on it? Freebies board?
Places do this stuff to get pics of happy clappy spenders showing how their clone shopping centre is The Business and better than the next towns identical Clone centre (with the same shops)...makes good pic for The Sun or whatever.
Who was the celeb that went up there?...Must have been one shipped in.
I will find out later on my trade site...and post up.0 -

I was there a few months ago- a few empties.
The thing is Cabots is right next to the normal shopping centre, the streets all merge.Loads of those units were shut/ boarded.
At the end of the day, there are far too many retail units in this country anyone with eyes can see it. Id like to see them refuse any more planning permission for more we have plenty as it is.
agree with you though Carol the stuff we were looking at was tipping 285- now 175 - in good-ish ( for london) areas too.
- Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Maybe there are that many young lads becaase they are unemployed, and fancy trying to nick something before the security has got its act together. What does it stock anyway? Haggis, kilts, and books on being a BTL millionaire.0
