hello
has anyone taken on nationwide and won re bank charges? i have been charged nearly £1000 in 18 months. I have sent a letter saying that I want them back and also to provide me with a breakdown. i didn't receive a reply regarding the refund but they have replied to the other one." there is no specific breakdown of the fees, but the amounts compare with those of other financial organisations"
surely they have to provide me with a breakdown of why they charged me £30 every time.
I REALLY WANT THEM TO PAY FOR ALL THE STRESS.

Is this a business account? Just wondering as I transferred my current account to them 8 months ago and as yet haven't paid any charges?
What are your charges for? Unauthorised overdrafts?
It does seem an awful lot.
To stop any unauthorised overdraft fees I always arrange the biggest o/d available so if I do go o/d by accident I am covered.NO EXCUSES - THIS YEAR IT'S PERSONAL..........0 -
no, its a basic bank account with no overdraft. the reason they kept charging me was because my dd kept getting delayed due to hubbys poor health. he was in hospital a lot and as it was always sudden i never had chance to rearrange things. they just kept charging £30 a time0

Funny you should be with Nationwide, their recent ad's say 'Nationwide Proud To Be Different'
£1000 in 18 months, why should they be proud of that...It makes me really mad. It's all good and well banks taking charges but they forget they leave people with no food etc sometimes. While their fat directors play golf on a Friday afternoon...
Another one is, 'Natwest, another way' another way from what?? My mum banks with them and they slap charges on at being like £3.00 overdrawn..is that thier idea of 'another way' ??
Sorry more of a rant than an answer!! I hate banks!0 -
finally had my letter back from Nationwide, with one day to go. they have refused a refund saying that i "agreed to the charges when i signed in acceptance of opening the account" and so they will not refund any charges on my account.
i want to take this further but i'm a bit worried. are they just fobbing me off do you think as in a letter requesting a breakdown they couldn't provide me with specifics?0 -
They are fobbing you off - join the discussion at the Consumer Action Forum (you need to register for free) and you will see other examples of Nationwide trying to wriggle out of it.
In my own experience, Nationwide are one of the better ones when it comes to haggling fees - they have refunded about £114 total to me on three separate occasions, so somewhere within all the bluster lies a heart of gold

I don't understand how you can get charged for a "DD getting delayed". Surely you mean something else, like there weren't funds in the account when required to meet a DD?char1585 wrote:no, its a basic bank account with no overdraft. the reason they kept charging me was because my dd kept getting delayed due to hubbys poor health. he was in hospital a lot and as it was always sudden i never had chance to rearrange things. they just kept charging £30 a time0 -
Yep You're Right. Sorry Was Tired.
The Direct Debits Were Not Paid On The Day They Were Due Sometimes As There Were Insufficient Funds So The Company Would Try To Take Them Again A Few Days Later0 -
My Dad has just got £680 back, quite easily, he eamiled someone twice, I think the email you need is on the consumer action forum, but I beleive from him that Nationwide are one of the easier ones to claim back from, he has the same account as you with them.0

thanks pee wee
I am not finding them easy to deal with at all. They just talk down to me and make me feel bad! I am determined to make them refund me though. I'm fed up being forced to choose over medication, food or paying the council tax. they don't seem to care that when they take charges they force you to not pay something else. it's like they expect you to just come up with £30 here and sixty there and pay all your other direct debits that you would have had the money for had they not taken it in charges! then you get charged again! I hate them0 -
I emailed Nationwide through their Internet banking site and asked them how they can justify £120 in charges I received a letter back saying all would be refunded. It also said because all D/D refusals were automated and the rates of interest they pay, charges are based on this ( confused ) anyway I got them back so keep trying.I used to be confused, now I just don't understand
