OS Daily Thread - Thursday 29th October

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 29th October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS friends,
stefejb - that is great news about Mr Beard, I am really pleased for you.
Noahs - I think its a case of 'Love me, accept how I feel about my cowboy' and vice versa for Tris... I wouldn't have stayed with a guy who didn't understand how deeply I cared for Tris, but yes, my dearest OH is not the jealous type.
Cranky - still thinking about you and George
Diana - Like others have said, 'Your house, your rules' and you just have to say that in your house noone jumps on the sofa and muddy shoes aren't allowed. I am surprised the parent didn't stop them but I probably shouldn't be these days.
Taplady - sending positive vibes for your friend Janet.
Lowesy - hope the move goes well today!
Ivyleaf - We arrived at the hospital at 1815 and left at 2045! Had to see one person and then wait to see the consultant which took ages. Hospital was unbearably warm as ever, and we ended up having McD on the way home. Finally arrived home 2220, just over 5 1/2 hrs after we left home. Apparently I have a hernia which wasn't why I was there but they found it... explains the intermittant pain I have been in for about a year.
So all in all, no OS done at all yesterday. I even paid my Godson to come and put up a new piece of trellis in the garden rather than waiting for my OH to do it. He is broke and trying to keep his own place going rather than go home to his mothers house so when I find odd jobs that need doing I ring him.
Today we shall have the chinese noodles and chicken we didn't cook last night for dinner. Lunch will be HM sun dried tom bread, toasted with tinned pilchards and lots of vinegar on top. (I just fancy them!)
Weather has been really warm so been drying washing on the line as much as possible but the towels won't dry so have put the tumble dryer on. WM and BM are also on so my house is clunking along nicely!
With love, light and
for everyone who would like one.

Morning Diva and all who follow.
Haven't posted for ages but I have been reading. We've had a bad time recently, our dog hurt himself while playing in the garden, he injured his spine and couldn't use his back legs. He spent 10 days in a vet. hospital and is now back with us but needing a lot of care. He is getting better though and is having lots of physio and hydro-therapy.
I am managing to be quite OS, mainly because I can't go out shopping, I have to be nurse. I got a delivery from Asda yesterday and was very pleased with it, some of their prices seem really good.
Don't know what the weather is like yet but yesterday was glorious and I got loads of washing dry. I will do more today if it looks fine.
I'm up at this unearthly hour because my Arthritis is very bad and I find lying in bed very painful, and DH was snoring.
Well wishes to anyone who is poorly or worried and sad.
Jayne and George, still thinking of you.
Have a nice day.0 -
Hi MrsMW - good to 'hear' from you. So sorry you have been through the mill lately and hope things improve for you hon. Glad to hear your lil doggy is getting better.

Morning from down this way.
Day off and hoping to drive to Helston and walk through the Penrose estate to looe bar. Quite scenic down that way.
Yesterday was a spending day. Was not intending to spend but ended up buying some half price BBQ tools and steak knives. Just need a steak now.
Got garlic seed too which I will put in the ground later for the spring.
OH got some reduced plants, so not too bad a day.
Not much news on my son's phone. ASDA said he should have put it in a locker, but they did not give him one as they are all taken. Nothing will get done. Could claim on some insurance, but the excess would gobble up most of the money and the premium would go up.....
Well folks have a nice day...NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning all
Well I'm over being upset, now I'm just plain furious, hubby found out yesterday who got the job he didn't get. It is someone who wasn't even interviewed for that job, so everything was fair & square then, lol.
Not many os plans here today as I'm off to work soon, just for half a day. Tomorrow I was meeting a friend, but she's had to cancel, so any os still needed can be done then.
Have a great day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning, everyone
I'm still tired and thankfully not aching from last night's foray into exercising! I hope everyone has a lovely day and I'm really looking forward to the weekend when I ca do some more serious browsing to improve my mealplans. They're nice, but I want to do more with them, if you know what I mean.
I'm taking my costume into work today to finish it off (in secret). One of the threads I thought I'd secured on it last night has unravelled a bit (grr!) and so it'll need mending and I won't get chance tonight. Right, I'd best press on. Not a lot of OSiness happening today, but I do intend to try and continue the not eating between meals and snacking on crisps and chocolate. Wish me luck!
Hester - I've been in the same situation as your DH and it isn't nice(((hugs))) to you both
Have a good day, everyone. Take care

Morning all,
We've had a bit of rain this week. Not much but a few showers. I went to a tupperware party yesterday. Had a nice time and bought a few things as you do.Ended up getting a pastry brush, container & onion chopper. I think the memories of chopping up all those onions is still affecting me.
Went to the dr's today and my thryoid is at last behaving itself going by the blood tests. I also got the Swine Flu vaccine so no piggy flu for me. It was free to have so a real bargain. Hopefully I won't break out with any side effects.
I've got to catch up with some housework tomorrow and the ironing. I"ll try and get the lawn done as well. I'm pretty sure DGS will arrive here on Saturday so fingers crossed that goes ahead. I haven't heard anything to the contrary but you never know. It pays not to get your hopes up.
HH It sickens me when I read stuff like that happens The injustice of it all makes my blood boil.
N9eav I'm glad MIL's funeral went off well & a shame about DS phone.
MrsMW Hope your arthritis improves asap.
stef I gather he has a beard.Fab news.
Cranky <hugs> to you & George. Hope you are coping ok.
I hope you all have a lovely day. Won't be as warm or as sunny as mine. Hold that thought.Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -

Morning everyone
Up early to decorate the lounge with balloons and a banner! DD2 is 18 today :j:beer:.
So, not much OS-iness ahead - we're off to West Quay shopping then I'm providing a taxi service tonight when she goes out with friends. We're having a family celebration next weekend when my sister & family are back from holiday.
Diva - hope you're not too tired today after your hospital visit.
Hester - sorry to hear about hubby's job. That really does seem unfair.
MrsMW - hope the pain eases and glad to hear your little dog is improving.
Will have to go in a minute and prepare the syrup sponge that DD2 wants instead of a cake. Need to rummage in the freezer and find something for dinner tonight too.
Have a good day,

Sistercas That's not all. Not by a long shot.
I forgot to say that I won the party game we played.
I was given this lovely lime green salad bowl with lid & salad spoon & fork.
Plus I won the lucky door and I chose a pickle fork.
After winning $55 at Bingo on Monday night, nobody was impressed.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Morning everyone.
I have my grumpy trousers on today. DS woke at 5.20am and has been whinging ever since. Its all I ever hear off my two at the moment and I am sick of it. H thinks I am being unfair but he's not here all day with them - its just never ending at the moment. DS had his weetabix and then asked for a yoghurt. Gave him said yoghurt and he wouldn't eat it. So took it away. Then he starts crying that he wants a yoghurt. Offered it back to him and he still carries on the performance. So I've put it in the bin. Am fed up of him asking for stuff and then not eating it
So spend time with behaviour like that and wouldn't you be a little bit fed up
Anyway moving swiftly on. Going to a local-ish nursery to see whether they are stocking their large bags of spuds again. Far nicer, cheaper and better than buying the ones from the supermarket.
That's about all my plans for today. Got some washing to dry - hung a load on the line yesterday but it didn't really get enough sun to dry it (north facing garden). I don't have a TD so am getting a bit sick of the airier up in our bedroom.
Finally made a loaf that'd I'd been planning on making since the weekend
Little OS apart from some cleaning if I can be bothered. Have an awful mouth ucler on the side on my tongue - think it's a sign I am run down as I don't normally get them generally and if I do it's never on the edge of my tongue (ouch!).
Diva - gosh that's a terribly long time at the hospital. Sorry to hear about your hernia.
MrsMW -hope your pooch recovers OK
Hester - I know how you feel. My H used to work for hospital about 10 years ago. He was actively encouraged by people within the department to apply for the jobs they were advertising, practically telling him he'd get the job. He would apply, have an interview and end up never getting the job he was just there to make up the numbers :mad:
Aussielass - I must admit I didn't realise Tupperware parties were still going on (thought they'd been replaced with Ann Summers and Partylite candles!). My mum has got loads of Tupperware bought at a party still going strong - she bought it in the very early 80's - they just don't make stuff like that last these days :rotfl:
kjsam - Happy 18th to Miss kjsam
Sistercas/Mrs MW - I snore occasionally. I was doing it the other night apparantly. Did my H prod me or wake me to move?? No....I have repeatedly told him to do so - he has my permission as I am keeping him awake. if he doesn't do as I ask then he loses all sympathy from me
Cheered up slightly in the course of typing this out so hopefully that will continue :rotfl:
Hugs to those that need them.
Have a good day OS or not.
Edited to add:
Thinking of you and the family today Bargainbird. Hope it goes as well as can be expected xxxxxI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
