  • Just visited that site - 45 hours?!?!?!? Bloody hell - you'd need to be rich to afford that!! At £25 per lesson that'd cost you £1125!!!!!

I had 30 lessons @ £12 per lesson 7 years ago starting from knowing nothing about driving, and I passed my test the first time. And the only reason I had 30 lessons was because there was a long wait for the practical test so I had a few extra lessons while I was waiting to make sure I was totally confident + ready.

I'd say 20 lessons should be plenty as long as you get in some private practice as well inbetween your proper lessons, and I'd advise people to get their theory test out of the way before they start taking lessons or as soon as possible after you've started as you can't book your practical until you've done your theory and there always seems to be a shortage of driving examiners, so there is usually a long wait for your practical test date.

Big thanks grpbp. I picked up 17 hours for under £150 today. About time I sorted this driving lark out.

Me thinks it's halfords hunting day tomorrow.

I went in to the Halfords to go a hunting...

I have heard of Halfords referred to as Halfrauds. I assume this referrs to the usually extortionate prices?

Does anyone know if my son could go on the simulator before he is 17?

    From BSM site....
You don’t have to wait to start. Don’t worry if you’re still waiting for your provisional licence or are not yet 17, you can start learning to drive on the simulator straightaway.

    And bargains going quicker :rotfl:

    Question for all the people....

If only the main voucher is stamped and dated, how can it be acsertained that the simulator voucher was purchased within 12 months? (There is no space made for this on the voucher just white space.) Do I need to go back and get the simulator vouchers stamped and dated? Also these £1.50 off vouchers, from what I can tell they can only be used at the same time as the prepaid lesson voucher?

Could someone who has used the simulator voucher report back pls?

From experience (when my wife was learning) She chose BSM as they were a national name and she thought they culd be relied on.

They insist on 2 hour lessions, and charged £19 an hour (she got that rate by buying 10 or 20 hours in advance).

Of the 15 lessons she had booked they failed to turn up 7 times, and the office works 9-5 so if anything happens to the instructor outside those hours you will not know until they don't arrive. They expect you to pay for any cancellations if you give less than 24 hours notice but that doesn't apply to them.

My wife was nervous about driving and them not turning up did absolutly nothing to help, The instructor was usually the same person but not always so that wasn't too good, plus the fact you just didn't know if they'd turn up later or not and if they didn't the office was closed really was bad for a national company. I know there a franchise but there should be some backup. Add to that when I phoned to complain the third (and final time before I cancelled everything and got a refund) they insisted she didn't have a lession, despite me having their booking printout in front of me.

My honest opinion, Get someone local on recommendations, BSM may be better elsewhere, (we used Chelmsford) but I'd never recommend them to anyone. We ended up with someone who used the same model of car as I have so that it was easier for my wife to learn.

    And yes she passed..

A BSM instructor brought my mum to tears about 10 years ago and it takes some going to get my mum in tears. They gave her some free lessons as an apology, when they where up she went to somebody else.
