Yeah sorry, we did look at the gauge but was showing there was fuel there
I am trying to type this with poorly kids in the house i apologise if i haven't come across very well0 -
Given that a fault in the car left you stranded I would reckon you would have a good case to get part of your hire fee returned.0
-
We didn't pay for the car to hire it as it was through Motability.
It would be great if they rang to say sorry, i have been waiting for the call since yesterday and they still have not rang0 -
Yes it was still saying half full when the light came on.
then alarm bells should have rung, which route did you take as normally you would be no more than 30 miles from a services/town
an apology I dont think you are going to get one,Ultimately it is up to you and your husband to ensure you get to the destinationIMOJACAR

So you'd be happy with that then...
We were given a hire car, told it had a full tank of diesel, checked the gauge which showed a full tank.
Around 10 miles from our destination (on the A303) the diesel ran out, no petrol stations. The next one was middlemoor (which is where the AA took us)
The Red fuel light came on around 10-15 minutes before the diesel was completely empty, again, no petrol/diesel stations. We were hardly in the position to start randomly searching for places to refuel. And seeing as middlemoor services were (at the point the light came on) our nearest it would have been a pointless exercise. All that coupled with fact that at that point the fuel gauge (as already mentioned) was still showing half a tank of fuel.
At the end of the day the hire car should have been checked before it was given to us. It was faulty, the fuel gauge was faulty. I'm not in the habit of refilling a tank of diesel when it showing half a tank and even if I was (as mentioned, once or twice) there were no petrol stations...
Thanks for the help though... :T0 -

even if it was faulty, what method do you suggest they use to predict a fault that might happen at some point in the future
when you left to come home was it full? If it was did you not think this was a bit odd, if it was on half when you left did you not think it was odd that it was still on half when you were nearly home?0 -
Tbh I don't believe you Bbear.
I think you used all the diesel and ignored the light thinking it would get you home and wanted to ensure the AA didnt refuse to collect you.0 -
Now is there anything we can do over the matter or do we just accept an appology
I would be ok if it was a engine fault but they must have known they didn't fill the car up!
As you didn't pay for the hire what more do want? I hired a car and the fuel guage stuck on half, I drove 300 miles and it conked out, no petrol, obvious really but it was a BMW and I thought it had a big tank !! The AA came and got me going again, I got an apology and a free rental from Hertz. The Hertz place I use is inside an hotel, no petrol station for 3 or 4 miles, my theory is they fill them up, full flow, to the 1st click, drive back to base and though the guage reads full it is not full to the brim.0 -

That being the case they should have checked or at least let us know about it.hewhoisnotintheknow wrote: »when you left to come home was it full? Your question is a little hard to decipher but I'll give it a go.
It was showing full (I believe that has been mentioned before:rolleyes:) when we left. When we broke down it was showing half full.0
