    Evening all.

I'm feeling very weary this evening after a lousy night's sleep: the cat woke me up just after 3am by throwing up on the living room carpet, then a friend / acquaintance woke me again at 6.30 by sending me a text message asking for a favour (tip to said person - if you're going to ask a favour, don't wake someone up at stupid o'clock to do so!).

    However, pleasures:

    1) NSD.

    2) Deciding not to do the favour requested at 6.30 - it's the sort of 'friendship' where we're friends as long as I'm running around after her, but the friendship vanishes if I say no (I didn't even get a 'happy birthday' from her last week), and I'm fed up with being taken for a mug. ;)

    3) Received an email from my favourite jewellery store advertising a sale, which included a watch I've been wanting for over a year and which is now reduced to half price. I also have a £5 voucher which is valid on sale items, so I'm really pleased I didn't buy the watch when I first wanted it. :money:

    4) I meant to buy deodorant today but forgot, then got home to find I'd received a full-size product trial one in the post. :j

    5) I was expecting a free bottle of wine in my fruit and veg delivery today, but it didn't turn up because I apparently hadn't met the conditions of the offer. When I phoned up, the nice CS lady agreed the conditions weren't clearly explained and said I could have the freebie after all.

Have a pleasant evening, all, and particularly you Ms R. ;)
Back after a very long break!

In a hurry tonight, but quickly before I dash out - today's pleasures:-

    1. A quiet plodding sort of day.

    2. The other part of a 'ropey' joint of beef cooked in the SC. Was better but you can't make a silk purse....,

    3. Starting the revamp of my cool summer dresses ready for the next heat wave.

    4. Finding I have just the right colour threads in my sewing box, so no expenditure there.

    5. Thankful that my retired DH can no longer be put on the scrap heap by Lloyds TSB - they did it once.

    Bella.

    Evening all,

Am back from a wonderful few days in gorgeous Cornwall with my mum. We cycled along the Camel Trail from Bodmin to Padstow. It was so lovely just to spend some quality time with her, just the two of us. We did so much in the short time we were there, wine tasting at the stunning Camel Valley vineyard (the wine is divine!), crazy golf, walks along the beach, sumptuous lunch at a 2 Michellin star restaurant (oysters, mussels, bream, wine and cheesecake), pubs, cream teas and Cornish cider!

    1) All of the above

    2) Sunshine

    3) Not at work for last 3 days

    4) Kitty cat was happy to see me when I got home (and he had food in his bowl so it wasn't because he was hungry!)

    5) My brother meeting my mum and me at Paddington when we got back. It was a nice surprise.

    Night all... I'm very tired!

    L

PS Welcome to the world again Miss R
    Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    1. Managed to get through the day without being too grouchy with certain people in the office!! ;)
    2. DD has 'given' me the 20 coins from her purse and says that children don't need money, mummies do......bless her. I'm going to save them for our holiday and give them back to her of course :)
    3. Having a silly text conversation with OH whilst we watch the polar bear documentary
    4. Naughtily but yummily bought a M&S salad and juice for lunch, should have taken my own but......and I'll take it as my payday treat
    5. It's payday, woo hoo!!
    6. DD and I made some delicious looking cakes when we got home
    7. Planning an earlyish night as I feel like I'm coming down with a cold and need to be perky for the weekend!!
    8. Got the washing dry on the line

Really need this thread tonight so I will remember that today wasn't ALL bad! Seems my bravado at MrN's departure was short lived and have done rather a lot of feeble crying today. I'm sure it'll be days/a week or so and it'll all pass but it's a bit painful just at the moment...

5 or so for today (Thurs).

    1) Up early again. Got the boys in the car early. Had to laugh really as MrN started to get in his car at the same time and we both politely ignored each other. My car is 18 and I started it up and, occasionally, the accelerator (sp?) cable sticks and it revs up like mad. Of course, it did that this morning. MrN knows about the car problem but looked fairly surprised to have a small car sounding like a rocket about to take off next to his car. So I turned my car off and turned it on again and it did it again - I could have hit it! MrN drove off without looking too smug.

    2) Good Housekeeping came in the post (school friend gets me a subscription for Christmas).

    3) Went to mum and dad's briefly and picked a big bag of gooseberries. Have topped and tailed them and put them in the freezer. Also given some new potatoes.

    4) Quote came for the work on the living room. Quite pricey but a step forward.

    5) Went to the local bank to change my name there. The cashier was another mum from school so we had a chat about the teacher's strikes.

    6) 5 out of the 7 teachers at sons' school were off so they did a lot of mixed class stuff and huge amounts of PE!

    7) Made pie for tea.

    8) Went swimming with sons and my brother. On the way to get my brother, I was getting a tiny bit upset and my sons made me laugh by singing all the most sad and slushy song lyrics they could think of! I wish I could remember them all now but they included "sorry seems to be the hardest word" and "it a sad, sad situation" :-D They are ace. :-)

    9) My sister was very short with me on the phone but came round to apologise and brought Maltesers. :-)

    10) Going to bed now with a hot water bottle and Holby City on iplayer.

Going into town tomorrow to meet 2 school friends (twins!) that I don't see for years at a time. So looking forward to that.
Thanks, as always, for everyone's kind messages.

    Well put Ladyhawk!

(((Frith))) - just read your post. We cross-posted. The tears are understandable and will be short lived in the bigger scheme of things. The blessings are much longer lasting - hang on to them!

    My five for Thursday:

    1. More chasing the sunshine and unpegging and repegging washing in between showers. Got it all done though :T

    2. Heaps of tidying and sorting.

    3. Chopped up a load of old-fashioned, striped, brushed cotton pyjamas of DS2's that he's grown out of, useful-sized buttons went into the button tin and the fabric is going to be recycled some sort of patchwork bedcover when I get round to it.

    4. Lots more useful planning and phone calls towards the money earning work for the autumn. Started looking into grant funding too.

    5. Sitting in the garden early evening and watching a very vocal blackbird busily flying too and fro then sitting on the fence and singing very loudly.

    Sweet dreams
