Frith -

This is the wild garlic pesto one I used - There is enough here for four I reckon -If you have too much stick it in a pot in the fridge and top up with olive oil - ours kept for a few weeks last year like this. I just cooked up some pasta & stirred it though, served with loads of pepper & bit more parmesan.

Put the wild garlic, parmesan, garlic and pine nuts into a food processor and season well.
Whiz together and with the motor still running, pour the oil in until the pesto thickens.
1. Store in a clean jar in the fridge
We also made the Wild Garlic parcels in the River Cottage `Hedgerow` book. AMAZING! Like Dolamades (is that how its spelt?) those things with rice & stuff wrapped in vine leaves that you can get in M&S. Lovely hot & cold. I will post the recipe if people dont have the book.

My pleasures for today, even though I was back at work

1. Did a load of cheap energy washing overnight & at 6am hanging it out on balcony saw three fluffy ducklings & a Heron.
2. Meeting at work went well & follow up phone call from a colleague in Hull who agreed
3. Found at least three good jobs for OH to apply for during my lunch ( emailed him them and he seemed pleased)
4. I seem to have made the worlds best Veggie curry by accident - own random HM sauce & odd bits of frozen veg & chickpeas now simmering away
5. Meeting away from work tommorrow in Bradford so late start and maybe even the train in for me (can read book & drink coffee - bliss)

Evening Ladies,

Bit of a funny old day today... soo chilly! And made worse by the fact that I turned up for an event that I have been dreading... 2 days early:o

1) NSD

2) Good chat with a nice colleague who I don't see so often. she understands my frustration wit a certain senior person within out department who is completely incapable of making any decisions and just lurves conference calls

3) Made some yummy wraps for lunch - roast beef from yesterday, with loads and loads of crispy salad. They are gorgous

4) BBM chat with a friend. Her sister is very ill and 37 weeks pregnant. She seems to be hanging in but they are not sure if she will survive the labour :( She has struggled with annorexia since she was very young and has never really fully recovered.

5) Managed to snaffle some biscuits from work to eat on the train home.

My tonsilitis is getting a little better... though I felt very rough this morning.

Night all... sleep well.

L
Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

(((Hugs))) to you Frith and the boys. Wishing you all a long, stress free period in the not too distant future
Thanks for taking the time to post ampersand, admittedly I do have to decipher/translate some of what you say but it makes for interesting reading ;) and sounds as though you're having a well deserved break.
Ladyhawk the post about your friend's sister is devastating, I hope and pray she and the baby come through safely
jinty I empathise re the dentist, three years ago I was in a similar situation but they told me I would lose all my teeth, and I did. I love my bright smile today but it's a false one, iyswim :o. A friend has just been told she's in danger of losing one of her legs through smoking, and she gave up 8 years ago. Everything x'd that Carolyntia has got through the difficult time
Kittikins are the grab handles fixed, or suction? If suction please make sure they're sturdy before you put any weight on them, I know to my cost (bruised btm and hip) to test them first!
Dita good luck to your OH finding a job. Yes please to the recipe, anything with garlic is more than acceptable in my house. As I live alone it doesn't matter how much I eat on the days I don't go out :D

Feeling a bit low today, missing my dear friend so much but as they say, this too shall pass. I'm so grateful for the memories he left with me, especially of those last few months when we spoke every day. Must look for the silver lining so on a brighter note my 5 -
1. nsd
2. washing out at 8am, and dried/ironed/put away by 3pm
3. the last of the mending done, I can close the lid of the sewing box at last
4. found a bedroom suite, including the bed, that I can afford for the second bedroom. Not sure it's 100% right as it's pine rather than white (never been terribly keen on pine but it does look nice in the picture and it's all down to cost) so I'm going to sleep on it and make a final decision in the morning.
5. Waited in all day for the carpet to be delivered, at 4pm I phoned to find they'd tried to deliver it to an address 15 miles away in Luton! Not sure how they thought they were going to manage that as there's not a road of the same name there. After several phone calls the company apologised profusely and have knocked off the price of the underlay :T

Night night, sleep tight

Evening all

Thanks to everyone for the messages and PM's about my struggles with giving up smoking. I'm still on the straight and narrow :). All your encouragement and tips are helping and I've reserved Alan Carrs book from the library so hopefully that'll help a bit too :D. I know I need to keep myself busy but someone has helped me realise that I need to change my attitude to it.....got lots of jobs lined up :o

1) Went through a long and very tiring handover yesterday - but I'm glad it's over
2) Started my new job today :j - enjoying it so far - it's not till I've stood back from the old one that I've realised how ill it was making me
3) New project get free fruit - so no more buying and wasting for me
4) Now back on my diet - everywhere in the new building is miles away so getting plenty of exercise in on my visits to the toilet, printer and coffee machine
5) Lovely sunny day so did a couple of laps of the building outside at lunch time - I wouldn't have had time with the old job:rotfl:
6) Lots of parking space at the new building so that won't be a problem again
7) Call from an old friend - who I met on one of my first overseas jobs - he said I sounded like my old self again - so much brighter :D
8) Finishing work on time :p
9) Managing to get to the library and pick up some of the books I reserved :)
10) Not gritting my teeth or holding my breath once today - and I didn't wake up with my heart racing either
11) Realising that even though I bought myself very close to redundancy that some jobs aren't worth making yourself ill for
12) New boss isn't hard on the eye either ;)
13) Actually looking forward to going in the office tomorrow - haven't felt like that for a year now
14) More beautiful weather - looking forward to getting out on my bike again :o
ETA
15) Norwich going back into the premiership! - I'm still a little Norfolk Dumpling at heart!
Ladyhawk - Sorry to hear about your friend - I'll keep her in my thoughts

Thank you all again!

Thanks, DitaBombita.

Ladyhawk - sorry to hear about your friend's sister.

Best wishes to everyone else too! Bit tired again so here are my 5:

1) Had a text from a school friend that she is pregnant! Her identical twin had 2 babies within 13 months in 2009 and 2010 so very exciting that it is her turn now.

2) Boys back to school happily after another long weekend off. Actually, they barely talked about school at all so it must have been good.

3) Popped down to my parents this afternoon and only my dad was in. He is so chatty when he is on his own. :-D

4) Made a roast dinner. Did many roast potatoes, 2 packets of stuffing, a squash, whole cauliflower, whole brocolli head, whole chicken - thinking there would be enough left to cover with puff pastry tomorrow and make into a pie. There were about 3 cauliflower bits left! (There are 8 of us).

5) Spent bloomin ages tonight finishing MrN's birthday card. :-) Bigger son did the drawing and I thought I would do the photograph-y bits and the scanning etc... Quite pleased with the results, I keep having another look at it!

Really quick five pleasures for tonight:

1. Long and busy work-related day, but fun with lots of good parents and children.

2. Lemon curd yoghurt for pudding.

3. Browsing in the mega-discount bookshop and not buying a thing but enjoying looking.

4. Having iplayer radio drama running in the background while I was being busy.

5. Starting to put together a blog with DS2 for some of our work.

Sweet dreams

right here goes.....another attempt, you may well hear me scream all the way to the UK if this doesn't work! I like to try & post everyday as it helps me to stay positive!

Tuesday's pleasures:
1.Dropped kids at school & did PTA stall. We had a very busy morning & less 'political' (eg.....everyone being opiniated but did they buy stuff? No! Did they wrap stuff? No! Did they set up & help put away? No....funny how so many had to dash off!.....sorry going off tangent...this is a happy thread!)
2.Was a nice autumn day, warm once sun is up but ooooo chilly when it's dark! But got washing dry & ironed.
3.Watched neighbours daughter after school ,then she came over with her 2 younger girls who are such good fun.
4. Went back to school to pick up photos we had taken last month. Was a treat but cheaper than would have been back home. These will be used as Christmas gifts when we come home in Autumn (UK) ....will nip to Poundland or B&M for a nice but cheap frame & wrap when we are home. Photos are GORGEOUS!! ( she says modestly!)
5. Back home to dinner of reduced roast chicken, roasted sweet potatoes (reduced) and parsnips. DD1 had made leek & potato soup at school, so that was our starter.

I had been in supermarket earlier & had got quite a few bargains & had a nice chat with cashier who told me best times to get bargains!

Our Australian Masterchef has started but Australia's Got talent on at same time..... grrrr!

Wednesday.....so far, just in case I can't get on!

1. Up early, DD1 was on radio again as part of her media studies.....got a frantic call to say they had got on wrong train & were late for their session! However, they got there & did well!

2. Back to school for PTA stall, almost sold all our stock, only 20 items left & just one more day to go! Smug pat on back for helping to choose the right things!

3. Came home...had a frustrating time trying to get online! Take it for granted that we have internet! I needed to send an email & was getting very annoyed with poor laptop!

4. Stuck the heating on.....I was cold and indulged myself!

5. Have been busy baking. Made an apple sponge, banana loaf & spicy chocolate muffins. My kitchen is lovely & cosy!

Lets try the post button!

It's good to be able to come back and post on here. For the past month a major broadband access problemhas left me virtually marooned without internet access. Now solved, I hoped but caused by BT upgrading broadband in our area, so watch out if you're having access problems and you see lots of BT white vans in your area !!

1. Veg seedlings all coming along nicely, and have been picking endive, rocket & perpetual spring onions for ages now.
2. Enjoying the three wild ducks (same 3 as last year, I think) who have been arriving daily to feed in our garden.
3. Had a delightful Easter away at the seaside and it was so warm that one day we ended up cooking an egg & bacon breakfast on the beach.
4. Getting organised early with the new tax year's ISA so that's one less thing to worry about.
5. OH has just treated my 10 year old car to a big external & internal cleaning and valet. It looks almost like new.

Morning all!

Ladyhawk, my thoughts and prayers are with your friend's sister and baby xx

Primrose, our internet connection has been a wee bit sporadic in the village, fingers crossed that we don't get disconnected for a long time, the children would have a turn!

Well it was a very busy day at work yesterday, and I arrived home tired, hungry and uncomfy! But there were still pleasures:

1. Kids had left me some dinner, house was fairly tidy (despite a wet towel being left on my bed, but then you can't have everything lol!), and all the time Spud is kicking me, even my spine and sciatic nerve, then I know she is okay :)

2. Got a lovely pink baby chair for the house for Spud, not strictly OS, but was a bargain, and have now got all baby bits that I need other than toiletries, so feeling very organised! Amazing how much stuff there is about for little ones, even more unnecessary bits than there were when I had my other four, I have stuck to the things that I know I will use, though possibly we have gone a wee bit over the top on clothing - but the girls have been so excited choosing stuff, and I suspect that number 5 isn't going to generate the same levels of excitement amongst friends, so prob won't be inundated with baby clothes as gifts!

3. Rearranged today's lunch with friend for Friday, so I have the whole day to myself - well sort of, still have usual rounds of jobs to do, to but nice to be able to do things at my own pace. After all the long weekends it is nice to have a bit of peace!

4. Spoke to ex yesterday about ds, and he is going to have a word with him about college. Nice that we can still get on and put the kids first, especially when I see how much trouble some exs cause - we have our moments when we irritate each other, but mostly we manage to work together :)

5. Sun is shining again, Spud has wriggled around and I feel fairly comfy this morning, I've had brekkie in bed, and I'm looking forward to cinema with best friend tomorrow - we're going to see Thor, and another friend told me it was good and that there are lots of nice men to look at lol!

Have a good day all xx
