2. Lovely roast chicken for dinner followed by left over bakewell tart & custard
3. DD made a victoria sponge at school today which has turned out really well so cake for pudding tomorrow
4. Managed to get some new roasting trays in Mr.T today which had been reduced to £2.50 each from £10 each :j
5. A free chocolate lip balm in the post today and £5 John Lewis voucher from a suryey site. I now have enough JL vouchers to cover Fil christmas present.:money:
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Thank you everybody for your kind thoughts, today has definitely been better
parsonswife your holidays sounds lovely, I went to Gt Yarmouth some years ago and can understand why you'd want to be near there. Like CCP I'd be interested to know how you cook your oxtail. My step-dad was a butcher and we had lots of yummy things like that but admit I've never cooked it myself
Ladyhawk sounds like you had a super birthday with lots of lovely pressies. Congrats on doing the Sudoku, anyone who can do those deserves a medal! Anything to do with numbers just scrambles my brain
Blimus lol at DS2 and the cardboard box. One can buy all the expensive things in the world for DC to play with but a box can be anything their imagination wants it to be
CCP well done on still picking tomatoes, sounds like you've had a bumper crop. What 'brand' did you grow? I'm interested as I want to start them next year but not sure which are the most productive. The prawn curry sounds good, I like most fish curried especially prawns and trout
Tealady clever DD making a Victoria sponge, saves you thinking up a pud. The chocolate lip balm sounds tasty, I wonder if you'll be temped to lick it off?
Frith hope all is well
mine for Wednesday -
1. a lie-in til 8.15am when the furpets let me know I'd had long enough
2. nsd
3. A lovely blowy drying morning
4. Tidying my stationery drawer while looking for a stapler and came across some poetry I wrote 20+ years ago . I write about events in my life and it's interesting to see how I've moved on since then
5. Final bottom of the fridge tea before I have to go shopping tomorrow or, if I can find something lurking in the cupboard, Friday. The kitchen refit is supposed to be taking place in Oct or Nov so I'm running the stock down as much as possible and have had a couple of very strange, but quite acceptable meals lately
6. A load of washing in on Econ7
7. A good penny phone call this afternoon which actually ran into 22p, the longest for ages
Night night, sweet dreams

Morning all! :jHope everyone is well on this rather chilly September morning
1. Turned the heel of my second hiking sock last night. I tend to let socks drag on and on but I'm going hiking on Saturday and decided I wanted to wear my new socks then! So it's speed knitting tonight to get it done!
2. Going to go forraging for some blackberries tonight to make blackberry and pear crumble
3. The winter duvet is back on and it's soooo much snugglier than the summer one! Makes it quite difficult to get out of bed in the morning though!
4. Looking forward to walking on Saturday - any excuse to take my vintage thermos out! £1 from a charity shop and I love love love it!
5. Fresh flowers on the table in the living/dining room. Writing that makes me laugh because we have one big square room downstairs which serves as living and dining room in one, with the table tucked in under the stairs. OH laughs because I call the bit with the table 'the dining room' :rotfl:Ahh simple things...0 -
Hi all
Hope you are all okay. Here are my 5 for today:
1. My great neighbour who gave me a lift to a doc's appt this morning. Not only have I had conjunctivitis this week but I also strained my back and had to go and get some mega painkillers!!!! Falling apart!
2. My 2 cute cats keeping me company.
3. The mega painkillers
4. Lovely sunny blowy day
5. Last night's delicious shepherd's pie for lunch. The crispy potato bit is just yum
Have a nice day all x2012 Saving challenge £1000/£400! Woo! :wave:0 -
Evening all.
Gingerjar - I hope you feel tons better really soon.
sparrer - I'm not the best person to ask about tomato varieties as I tend to grow whatever I can get free seeds for. (:money: or? I'm not quite sure!) The variety I'm getting mountains of tomatoes from is the one I was doing a product trial on: I'm not sure I'd recommend them even if I knew what they were as, although there's loads of tomatoes and they're quite tasty, the plants are horribly sprawling and untidy and have taken over a large area of my patio. One variety I can recommend if you want them for cooking are Roma, which my dad grows and always gives me a plant: they're a plum-type with hardly any seeds and make a really good tomato sauce, and are fairly productive, too.
Tealady - that was a real bargain on the baking trays. I'll have to pop into my local Tesco and see if they've got some, as I could really do with a new baking tray.
My pleasures for today:
1) Having a chat with the office manager - a thoroughly nice lady - who was getting very irate on my behalf that the department is planning on buying its 6th laptop while claiming there's no money to buy a new chair to replace my broken one.
2) Not at all OS, but - I went to an outlet store to look for a new pair of shoes for work: I didn't find any I liked, but I did find a pair of red shoes that were so comfy and so... red that I couldn't resist. At least at outlet prices they were considerably cheaper than if I'd fallen in love with them at full price, I suppose.
3) One of my HG chillis is finally ripening. :j
4) The smell of plums stewing with cinnamon - it's about the only way I really like plums, and smells so gorgeously autumnal.
5) Writing my shopping list for my main shop tomorrow and finding I need a total of 8 items, as I have everything else I need already in stock.
Have a nice evening, peeps.Back after a very long break!0 -
CCP - I love Red shoes and wouldn't have been able to resist. Infact it has been a red shoe and handbag day for me today which always makes me smile.
Pleasures for today:
1. Bit more ironing cleared this morning
2. Made a chicken curry before work which was supposed to be for tonights dinner but we didn't have so in the fridge for tomorrow
3. OH took me out to dinner which is why the curry is in the fridge. Lovely meal and we saw Nick Faldo in the same restaurant which made OH day.
4. Getting a few more jobs cleared off my desk as I have a new major project about to start.
5. Listening to DD tell me about what a good day she'd had at school which makes a pleasant change as has not been the case since went back.
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Evening all,
Just a quick note to post my pleasures for today - I won't be able to post for a few days so hope everyone has a good weekend.
1) I have the day off tomorrow!! woohoo!!
2) One of my lovely colleagues in the London office baked biscuits in honour of my birthday!! They werea little odd... but yummy none the less!
3) My supplier being understanding when he turned out at the office for a meeting... and I was n London... oops...
4) My K'wood chef being delivered (yay!)
5) Making a dent in the mess that is my flat.
Night all.
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Funky the crumble sounds so yummy
.I've made pear and peach but never pear and blackberry, I'll definitely have to try that.
Poor you Ginger, backs are fine when they're working but horrid when they're not. I hope the painkilles are doing a good job. I agree about the crispy bits, aren't they the best
Thanks for the tip CCP, freebie is definitely best. I'll look out for Roma, and have decided I'll do one beef plant and a couple in hanging baskets on the garden wall with tiny ones. Well done on the shopping list, that's quite an achievement :T
What a lovely treat being taken out for dinner Tealady. Your OH deserved the pleasure of seeing Nick Faldo for being good to you. Pleased to hear your DD had a good day at school, hope she's turning the corner on the bad start
Enjoy your days off Ladyhawk, and have fun with the new toy
my 5
1. Having DGD2's old laptop is a boon as mine has broken yet again. Same prob as I had before, the power socket has come loose inside again, Had it repaired twice but I think I have a rogue comp. Thank goodness for the old one, although it takes 37 (I counted) seconds to open each page at least it works - sort of
2. Started digging out an odd little area of grass so I can pave it and square up the lawn. It's only 4' x 2' but it took all morning (I can dig for a couple of minutes then have to sit for half an hour to get my breath back:() and hopefully I'll finish it tomorrow. Then I'll be on the lookout for a couple of hunky men to put the 2 big paving slabs in place
3. Another nsd, managed to eke out a meal from the larder, made a fish pie with a tin of pilchards and a packet of instant mash which has probably been lurking at the back of the shelf since the Great War:eek:
4. Postie brought me an invitation to have my 18th birthday at a nightclub in the nearby big town. They'd have a heck of a shock if my friends and I turned up :rotfl:
5. Managed to dry a line of washing between showers, even if I did have to take it in and put it out again
Night night, sleepy tight
S x0 -
My five for yesterday are
1. A lovely walk with the dog and seeing some more blackberries which I will have to go out and pick today and make some more jam.
2. A NSD which I need as also today I will be taking DS1 shopping for a few odds and ends for uni.
3. DS1 being organised and starting to pack and I realised that I have quite a lot of the stuff he feels he needs.
4. HM chicken pie for tea. Lovely and also had enough to freeze some.
5. A meeting at work went better than expected.0 -
5 for yesterday (Thursday). I'm afraid there won't be a 5 for Wednesday from me as it was a horrible day culminating in my being grumpy to MrN and all sorts of other drama. :-(
1) Worked at school for a while.
2) Had a bit of a tidy up.
3) Looked after next door's boys and had a few games of chess with them.
4) We (sons and I) had a singing session.
5) MrN came over. My sons were in bed but bigger son was still singing! :-)0
