Busy day for us today. Here's my 5:
1) Managed to get up at 6am...
2) Visiting the Tower of London (2 for 1 and free for the boys with their Blue Peter badges). Smaller son's highlight was seeing the Crown Jewels.
3) A ride from the Tower to The Globe on a Thamas Clipper!
4) Good look round the Globe including 2 members of staff "dressing" a volunteer in Tudor clothes. The boys really liked watching that. We couldn't go in the actual theatre part because a play was on. My sister (who went with us) really wanted to see inside. We lost her for a bit while we were looking round so went to stand outside and text her. A lovely couple came out of the theatre and said they had not had seats but had had to stand. It was the interval and they had decided they couldn't stand up for the 2nd half as well so gave me their tickets! So we found my sister and she was able to nip into the theatre for the interval (with the ticket).
5) Went from the Globe into Tate Modern at which point smaller son had had enough so siste and bigger son looked round and smaller son and I played Boat Poo Sticks on the Millennium Bridge. Then all had a walk over the Bridge, past St Pauls etc, back on the underground then on the train for home.
6) Just been getting organised for smaller son's 7th birthday tomorrow. :-) We're off to a nearby National Trust place where they are doing holiday cartoon workshops, story reading and erm.... croquet. My family are coming round for tea and smaller son has chosen sausages, beans and chips and mum has made him a jelly and bought him a Stig birthday cake.0 -

Sounds like most have had a full day out and about while I've been holding the fort and doing the cleaning
1. Did the kitchen floor on hands and knees, all the crooks and nannies, under the cupboard doors, the kicks, behind the cooker, the tray shelf and so on. It smells beautiful even if some of the areas I cleaned can't be seen
2. Deadheaded the pots and hanging baskets, pulled the few weeds which had come through the paving since my session last week, topped up two of the hanging baskets - I don't know where the soil disappears to! DNeighbours DD has agreed to water while I'm away in return for some pocket money for their holiday. They go two days after I get back, good timing
3. Did a pile of ironing . Thought I ought to just once this year...
4. Tidied the car ready for its valet on Thursday. Found a lighter in the glove box (I haven't smoked for over 3 years) and 5 tins of de-icer, 3 bottles of screen wash and two sets of jump leads, one of which I don't think works but not sure which one, in the bag I keep in the boot. Nothing like being prepared
5. Made a loaf and diluted some milk, both which are now in the freezer ready for when I get back.
6. Phoned DS to confirm we'll be with him on Friday afternoon, phoned the holiday site to confirm the 4 DGC and I will be there on Saturday afternoon
7. DNeighbour came in for a cuppa, we both needed a sit down by then
8. The food plan (I don't call it a diet, puts me off trying) went well today, lowest possible fat everything and no bread. That's the hardest part, I love my toasties and bread rolls. Snacked on baby plum tomatoes and celery rather than the usual brioche, chocolate and chocolate brioche ,
9. nsd
10 Postie brought me a tile cutting kit in return for leaving a comment on a web site. I had asked for a hammer, guess I'll just have to practise on the bathroom
Night night, sweet dreams

Evening all,
Happy anniversary Zarazara!
1) The nice engineer turned up from Virgin this afternoon... and was able to fix my problem super quick... by plugging my phone into the correct jack...:o he promised to record that as the reason for the call out though!
2) Popped into the doctor to have my bites looked at. He confirmed they were indeed bites but couldn't shed light on what caused them. The pleasure is that I was able to get a same day appointment and didn't have to pay for it. The NHS is truly a wonderful institution!
3) a nice freecycler gifted me a half knitted jumper... I feel bad about unravelling it to knit into my blanket!
4) Popped into Mr A to pick up some flea powder just in case that is what is biting me. I also picked up some bargain whoopsies.
5) Finished my second square for my blanket.
Night all. Have a terrific Thursday!Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Evening all.
Ladyhawk - I'm glad it's turned out to be insects rather than an allergic reaction - I know it's not nice but it's much less dangerous. I hope you work out what's biting you soon and stop them from doing it. (From yesterday) - Felix and his furball - don't you just love it when they do things like that? Makes you wonder why we have them.(OK, I do know why we have them - mine's one of my pleasures for today.
)
zarazara - happy anniversary!
Acey - I love the idea of Boat Pooh Sticks - I might just try that next time I'm out with my sister somewhere there's a bridge.I hope your son had a lovely birthday today.
My pleasures for today:
1) Thunder storm with torrential rain this afternoon, so a) everything smells nice and green, and b) I don't need to water all of my many pots / tubs / growbags tonight.
2) My car was finished by mid-afternoon, so I didn't have to make my way home through the sogginess. (The price for getting it back was  though.)
3) Lovely cuddles from my cat when I got home this evening.
4) This evening I felt hungry for the first time since the weekend - I made a veggie curry which wasn't bad at all.
5) A very silly discussion on another thread about the best way to cook a fleece jacket. It made me :rotfl:, anyway!
Have a nice evening, folks.Back after a very long break!0 -
5 for today - smaller son's 7th birthday!
1) While the boys were out with their father this morning, I cleaned the bathroom, did some washing and tidied up.
2) Had another letter from the Financial Ombudsman Service. I had a loan years ago then went on maternity leave and went overdrawn and the overdraft got lumped together with the loan (by HSBC) In the end, I couldn't pay the loan and it was taken over by a collections agency (MCS). They lumped on about £3500 of charges and £3500 of PPI and a £4000 loan became £16,000....
... I claimed back the PPI and HSBC agreed to knock £3500 off the remaining debt. Unfortunately, they cannot do this unless the ex husband signs the Financial Ombudsman official complaint form. So I have sent the form to his solicitors to see if they can encourage him to sign it :-( 99% sure that he won't!
Anyway, today's Financial Ombudsman letter says they will also knock off the £3500 of charges!!!! There is nowhere on the acceptance form for the ex to sign (thank goodness) so hopefully it will be straightforward. And if he DOES sign, that will be the debt almost gone as that will be £7000 off altogether.
3) Had a chat with my neighbour.
4) Friend from school came over and we took the boys to a NT property where we met my sister. I then left bigger son with my sister and my friend and took smaller son to pick up his birthday present bike :-) Its 2nd hand but comes from a place where people with learning difficulties refurbish bikes and its absolutely gleaming!
5) Got home and mum and dad came for tea. Birthday boy chose sausages, beans and chips, jelly then a Stig cake. Then 2 more friends came round with their new puppy and later in the evening, a further friend popped in with a card!
Another busy day so I'm going to go to bed in a bit and watch Holby City.
Oh yes, I don't know if I mentioned that my cat had been missing for over a week (the one who got run over a couple of months ago and now has no tail). She turned up at 1.30am!0 -
It's been ages since I last posted but here goes for today:
1. Waking up to a completely clean house. Landlord's visit yesterday was a good incentive!
2. Mealplan is done for the week using mostly ingredients that I already have in the house this week. Stocked up on milk etc, but that should be it.
3. Very good stirfry for supper. I managed to hide some of my cabbage glut, a rather tired red pepper and one of the many courgettes we were given at the weekend in it as well as a multitude of other slightly sprightlier veggies. Very tasty.
4. Good chat with DS1 after supper about his plans.
5. Two more pounds in my £1 a day savings pot. This has been such a success for me this year and, rather than viewing it as treats money, I'm now starting to think that I might use it to replenish the store cupboard after Christmas and pay for a bit of extra fuel over the winter. Taking some of the stress of that away is a treat actually
Sweet dreams everyone
