    My five for yesterday are

    1. Reduced beef cooked in slow cooker so easy and LO for freezer.

    2. Dyed some clothes black most were black and faded and a pink top became very dark purple with pink buttons! The black items will have an extended life so less shopping.

    3. A NSD

    4. A lovely peaceful walk watching the woodpeckers.

    5. Watching bluetits from my kitchen window.

    6. Realising that bananas haven't been eaten so I can make banana cake today.

Huds to all those that need them

Don't know what happened there, I definitely posted at 1am but it's not here - I must have pressed the preview button instead of the submit reply one  No comments about age, please ;)

Welcome to all the newbies :hello:. Good choice, this is by far the best/friendliest forum on the site (even if one or two of us are getting a bit aged and forgetful :D)

CCP have been, and continue to keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Excellent news re the mole check and thank you for posting that as it may make some of us think about getting lumps and bumps checked out, me included.
Ladyhawk many congratulations on the finalising of your promotion :j Hope the date lives up to your expectations, you certainly deserve it With broad beans I leave their jackets on if they're very young and eat the whole thing but take their jackets off before freezing if they're a bit older as they'd be too tough
Oh my, Caterina, what prizes...a card with a tea bag, and a cheque for 7p. Not to be scoffed at, every little helps in the battle for OS ;) ( I'd be grateful for a cheque for 1p!) Your children are lovely, what a complement wanting to spend more family time...shows they were brought us properly :)
Hi house elf, good to see you back :D. How do you make ragu? Love my sc and would appreciate a recipe for making ragu if you have time before your holiday. Enjoy Legoland, wear a pair of good walking shoes though - I speak from experience ;)
I'm def going to try the hm KFC Jo, sounds yummy. Well done on being in credit at the end of the month, nice one :T
Hi aplaceinthesun good to see you back too. Bless your DD, I remember when my DD's went through 'traumas' as teens and it's so hard to watch, we can do little except be there for them. Your post wasn't silly at all, I'm sure most Mums can relate to similar experiences. Hope she's feeling brighter now :)
Oh dear ACEY, what a horrible experience you and younger son have had. I do hope you're both more settled now and back to the normality you both know. I'm old fashioned I know but feel that sometimes the more modern methods of 'treatment' aren't necessarily the best...but tell me off if that's too controversial please. Big hugs to you both
Hi Jex, miss you and always good when you pop up to let us know you're still watching us. More Jex waffle always appreciated! I'm looking for a yellow watering can but no luck yet - think I'll just have to paint my old one to match the garden ;)
A good job well done in the garden by the sound of it Patchwork, now you can see the wood (or daylight) for the trees. Your friend reminded me of one of mine, who can only be described as ditzy, your phone incident is just the sort of thing she would do. (I've known her to turn up for lunch three days before the date!)

    my 5 for yesterday

    1. Postie brought me a £10 voucher for doing surveys
    2. She also brought me 4 pretty dining seat covers with big yellow sunflowers on
    3. Managed to put away a good sum toward my India trip - did I mention that I was going to India in Feb ;)? (Yawn)
    4. NSD, final total for July, 19. Aug is going to be a disaster with the holidays but that's what we do it for :D
    5. The penny phone calls continue, sometimes good, sometimes brief but as long as we can speak it's a pleasure

Whereabouts in India are you going, Sparrer? I haven't heard about your trip (being quite new to the OS board) in detail. So....how long for....what will you be doing....? Tell all! I will live vicariously through your exploits! (Though we have a trip planned to Australia in November, but it's not the wilds of India! I can't WAIT!)

    Good afternoon everyone.

My final 3 pleasures from yesterday:

    3) My grandmother was looking much better (well, as better as she's ever going to be, at least). She was sitting up chatting, and even sang me a song. :D

    4) Stopped for dinner in a pub with my parents on their way back to the ferry - the food was pretty good and reasonably priced, and the athletics was on television so we all sat and watched that while we ate.

    5) Just had enough money for the bus back to my flat, rather than walking home on my own in the dark.

    My five for today:

    1) Bit of a lie-in, although I could have done without it being rudely shattered when building work started on the house opposite at 8am. Not very friendly, really!

    2) It rained all morning to water my plants, now it's sunny and windy so my washing will dry.

    3) Found a way of tying my tomato plants to the fence so they're almost upright rather than lying down on the patio.

    4) Treated myself to a rather silly present - a Bagpuss-shaped money box that was reduced in a sale. It's got to be better than the old carrier bag I'm using at the moment. :o

    5) Found a free range chicken reduced to £3 in Tesco - that's best part of a week of meals if I rubber it.

    6) When I got home my Lakeland order was waiting for me, which includes a proper lasagne pan to cook my dinner in - no more making do with a shallow glass dish that I can only fit two layers in. (Guess what's for dinner? ;))
    ********************
noynoy - I hope you enjoy your pretty chard. It's one of my favourite veggies - it looks nice and tastes lovely - but I ran out of room this year and couldn't grow any. :(
sparrer - please let me know if you manage to find a yellow watering can - you may not be surprised to learn that I'd like one too. :)

Wee_Jo - huge congratulations on getting debt free. :T:T:T And thanks so much for the chicken recipe - I've been looking for a good KFC recipe for a while but haven't been able to find one I like the look of - yours looks scrummy and I can't wait to try it.

Acey - I'm so glad smaller son was better today. How lovely that they both got to go in the train cabin - it's always good to hear that there are still nice, friendly people around who are willing to do things like this. :T

house elf - I hope you have a nice holiday. If you do go to the Isle of Wight, give me a wave - I might be able to see you from Portsmouth. ;)

Patchwork Quilt - it sounds like you had a lot of trees in your garden! I had some in the garden of my previous house trimmed, and it was amazing how much extra light came in once they were done. Enjoy your light - and all that wood. :)

Caterina - how nice that your DD and DS want to spend time with you. I'm not surprised, though - my sister and I love to spend time with our parents - it's just the sign of a happy family. :)

    Have a pleasant evening, everyone.
Back after a very long break!

Evening all from a very sleepy Ladyhawk!

I have stopped taking my antibiotics which I think are causing me to look as if I have been plagued by a swarm of mozzies with red spots all over me. And now am taking antihistamines to try to get the allergic reaction under control. And now the antihistamines are making me very drowsy.

    1) The last of the nice ebayers came round to collect the chest of drawers. I have relisted everythiing that didn't sell last time round...

    2) Got rid of a freeview box on freecycle... that was the pleasure... the man who collected it was not! not very friendly and about sniffy about it. I had told him when I offered it to him that I had never been able to get it to work!

    3) Had a bit of a tidy up ad did a couple of loads of washing.

    4) Stew from the freezer for lunch

    5) Visit from the police this afternoon after I complained about the motorbikes that zip up and down the little footpath adjacent to the house. He was very friendly so hopefully they can do something to stop them.

    Night night all.

    L

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    2. Lazy morning where I read my book for a while
    3. M&S meal deal for dinner

    5. Details of a share dividend payment, whole £2 that gets reinvested back to shares. Sorry Caterina I beat your 7p!!

    5 for today.

    1) Spent the afternoon bashing up some concrete that has been in the garden for ages. It is some old fence post bases that were dug out and I thought I would smash the concrete up and put it in some of the larger potholes in the village hall car park but had not got round to it.

    2) Dad gave me some courgettes from his garden.

    3) The boys played on their go-kart including tieing it to their bike and towing it. They also played well making miniature gardens in seed tray and smaller son spent ages drawing a road and cars - rather different from his behaviour on Thursday! And they came up with both those ideas by reading a library book on things to do in the summer that has been kicking around for a few days.

    4) Had a quick chat with my neighbour - always good to actually speak to another adult.

    5) Watched Casualty.

    6) Have just done half an hour of nit/lice busting. With is both yucky and a pleasure at the same time. :-D The pharmacy stuff obviously didn't work so tonight I've tried olive oil with a bit of tea tree oil in it. It's quite cathartic combing them out then shoving the nit comb in a tub of boiling water!

Off to Herefordshire Country Fair tomorrow. I haven't told my sons (they're off to their father's) as Richard Hammond is the President and will be opening it and they'll be consumed with jealousy...

Jo I'm going to Kovalam, in Kerala. Useless info - Kerala became a bit of a hippy place to go when the Beatles went to meditate with their Marharishi Yogi back in the 60's, part of their supposed anti-drugs period ;). I'm going for 2 weeks in Feb with my fellowship, there'll be a few meetings and a lot of sightseeing, sunbathing and eating :D.
I'd love to go to Oz, are you visiting family or going just because you want to?
You got some great whoopsies there noynoy, and well done on the jumble bargains. They don't have jumble sales in this area these days, just rather overpriced charity shops :(
CCP so pleased you found your grandmother better than you thought you would, and singing too, bless her :). Good that you didn't have to walk back in the dark, the bus fare was money well spent. I'll give you a shout if I see a yellow watering can :D
Anti-b's are horrid things Ladyhawk, you take them to cure a problem, take something else to counteract the side effects, takes something else to sort that out ...if you're really lucky you eventually find one that suits. Hope you feel better tomorrow :). Such a shame the odd freecycler has to give the majority a bad name, but pleased the ebayers were nice to make up for him
Sounds like you had a lovely, relaxing day Tealady. Congrats on the £2 dividend, what a nice surprise...be interesting to see if anyone can beat that ;)
Good grief ACEY, what a job! Well done for thinking of putting the pieces in the car park pot holes, but I hope you'll get help to transport them. Sounds like the boys had a great time and kept themselves busy with their games :D

    My 5

    1. A lie-in with my book til 9am
    2. Unexpected nsd, making it 20 for the month now.
    3. Got a line of washing out after the rain gave the garden a good watering. I'm hoping the grass with start to recover soon, it still has brown patches all over it. I was going to say big brown patches but big would be an exaggeration for the whole garden :rotfl:
    4. Lovely neighbour gave me a slice of delicious hm banana bread  after I lent her an egg this morning. It's ages since I've had banana bread and had forgotten how good it is
    5. Saw a photo of myself this afternoon, 5 feet tall and I look about the same wide . The bonus is my food bill is going to drop rapidly!
    Night night, sleep tight
