Pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Healthy eating continues into week 2...
3) Work better than it has been.
4) Smaller son had a session at school thinking what GCSEs he wants to do. All the necessary ones plus Geography, Computing and Food. :-)
5) Had several games of football and went to see the hens. Second three egg day in a row!
6) Brother came up to use the scanner.
7) I made tea and smaller son made a terrific sponge cake. HM blackcurrant jam and butter icing in the middle. Eggs from the hens so it was glowing yellow.
8) Enjoyed watching just down the road on the news (see previous post) and various people got in touch to tell me they had seen it. Even made the 6 o'clock news!
7) In bed with 2 hwb and might watch Holby.
Off to sixth form college tomorrow in case bigger son won't stay on at the one at his school. Doesn't seem two minutes since I left and I plan to divert from being shown round to take him to my old classrooms...0 -

It is lashing with rain, I am rather chilled, I have a shawl wrapped around me, a hat on my head and a dog squeezed on the sofa beside me ( he's not supposed to be on this sofa ) I am resisting putting on the heating just now.
I have managed to upset / be upset by my youngest child, life is such a drama for her , she is sore, she is fed up being sore, she is the most hard done to teenager ever in the history of hard done to teenagers. Sigh!
Managed to fall out on the 90 second drive to school and I just sat in the car, in the driveway and listened to the rain on the roof to calm down before I came in to the frozen house! Sigh!
Pleasures for past few days :
Well I suppose not being at work is a pleasure ( the lack of wages is not)
Went to Australian dentist on Tuesday , all okay.
Had the rest of the day with OH which was nice. Pottered about.
Baked yesterday. Made a rather delicious petite lemon layer cake using up lemons off next doors tree. Had a load of apples and pears so made an upside down cake and then banana bread , which was scoffed by oldest children ...gone! Enjoyed the heat in the kitchen.
Had a nice chat with friend from home.
Enjoyed the company of my dog, he just never answers back....it's quite refreshing!
I like the sound of the rain on the roof. Birds are singing. The grass is the greenest it's been for a while. It stops growing over spring/summer as its too hot. The rain will fill up the water butts again.
Catching up on emails .
Piratepete behave yourself ! Look after that Jenny please, she shares so much love with us all.
Have a good day0 -
Duvet test. Arrrrrrgh, duvet not removed!
Morning all. BoP is a bit stiff. More later, meanwhile ...
Oh, letter has arrived for yesterday's hospital visit, explaining what to expect. See rule one. Oh, and as it did not hurt, next time I am at the dentist, I am going to ...0 -
BOP - so glad you're recovering:)
Put my pleasures in the wrong thread on Wednesday.Hope I've got it right today.
1. A flotilla of 14 goslings were floating along with an escort of guard geese on the canal this morning. There's something very endearing about goslings - even if they're not a native species.
2. Wednesday's heron was fishing in the same place as we walked past today, and we (the dog and I) watched him take a fish. He/she wasn't at all worried about having an audience on the opposite bank.
3. The climbing rose over our back fence has finally flowered and i have a cascade of velvety peach coloured flowers to look at while in the kitchen.
4. The roses are scented - bonus!!
5. The ironing basket is empty (tackled and defeated the ironing mountain yesterday) This is a very cheering start to the day as I loathe ironing, and would rather clean the cooker any day of he week.0 -
Some pleasures for last few days,
Brother was pleased with his birthday present and had a lovely day.
Took Mum to local hospital for eye appointment, managed to get parked more or less right outside which is unheard of and as darling Mum has blue badge parking was free.
Restorative cup of tea and fruit scone at farm shop on way home.
Support of Captain S over upsetting incident with SIL, at the very least she was thoughtless, at worst almost spiteful. Deep breaths Lainey, few years ago I would have gone for her but kept my counsel and made it her problem in my head.
Roasted otherwise tasteless tomatoes in oil and balsamic to have with last night's tea, yum.
Have now finished 8 weeks on BSD, 19lbs off, Bill will be happy as less weight for him to carry :rotfl:
BOP good news re op, best wishes for hasty recovery
Frith heart went out to you with motorway incident, scary stuff, thank goodness for good laying hens :j
DD gosh, exciting life you lead m'dear
Mhags ah, the restorative powers of a choccie dog0 -
Duvet removed. Lunch! Thinks I will ...
5 You know you want to, so going to have some sardines and marmite sandwich. Small pilchards go everywhere. You recall they have been renamed Cornish Sardines! Names changed to protect the guilty.
4 Arm sore where wire went in. Tickles on the elbow though. Heart checked, and need to straighten kink. Possibly should had been done in 2012. Now time to do it. Jenny has a reboot on 10th June. Iodine, what a mess! Proper stuff. No sedation was taken, no blood was spilled. But, how the heck does that thing get right into the blessed ticker! And the X-ray camera, table jumping around. All on screen, really funny watching your own beat! Jenny sense a :heartpuls to others!
3 Well done to DD for sampling waters of wobbleade! Careful not to have too much now.
2 Night is another rest. Zzzzzzzz
You fear what other bafffoooons tell you, cause they want to hurt! But hurt only menaces them. In reality, it is your life, not theirs. So why fear their menace, when it causes no hurt?0 -
Glad all went well BoP. I had to have an early night (for me) so missed seeing your updates.
Just a quickie, the new millionaire and his wife now have a beautiful healthy baby boy.
Braxson arrived under his own steam this morning, planned induction not needed and Dad Kenny got there with ten minutes to spare.
There are some gorgeous pics on FB.
That's exactly what happened with Dr C., they mentioned an induction and bang, he was there
Other news:
7 new learners for me! Woo-hoo, back to work.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
1) A beautiful sunny day.
2) My borders in the garden are so pretty with ox eye daisies, wild self seeded fox gloves and blue scented irises all set amongst cob nut bushes.
3) A walk with Molly the collie didn't make my foot ache as much as it has been.
4) He Who Knows is having a smashing days fishing.
5) BOP is all OK and munching again!!!0 -
VickyA - glad cat a calming influence - parents' is as the antihistamines leave grandsons drowsy...
Mrs LW - rhodos are *glorious* in the right place (arboretum) & pernicious pretty weeeds in other places. Intrigued by imps taste in firepower & target. Bottom of fridge soup! HWK away fishing? Enjoy the peace?!
Frith - blackleading the stove - gods is there a job quite as satisfying? That bridge was you? Blimey - we gasped at the TV footage! Love the sound of fresh egg cake...
mhagster - daft how a bad review stings (& how badly some folk manage them) but attagal DD1 getting laundry out - you have taught her well! Teenagers are a necessary way to ease you past the idea your little cherubs leaving.
VJsmum - well done passing your wedding dress on, and giving your DD a laugh & more future choice, & just wow at Cherished Gowns. I knew of Now I lay me down to sleep, but still, just wow.
LaineyT - Sunday with bacon & egg, now that sounds like a plan! So glad you are not sticking pins into SIL.
BoP - trimmed your face fur? Cropped Summer coat? All best with medics. (Is it wrong to say I think I prefer the live Scrabble? but hurrah for horse!) Take it gently! Iodine the best fake tan on the market!
pinkypig - well done getting the laundry both out & back in (I struggle with the latter)
Frith - oh my dear - so glad you got off the Mway again. Babysitting neice! Gosh, how soon before she joins the Sinter Klass family tradition?
mcculloch - so happy for Kenny & hope hope hope it all works out OK. Chuckles at baby arriving on own schedule.
Skint - DS making a cuppa without prompting? Train 'em young & the satisfaction trickles on for decades.
DundeeDoll - hurrah for keeping house even with porch "you weren't fond of". (Awesome quote!) Rousing cheers for kindliness of Fate!
capella - hurrah for heron watching & three cheers on defeating Mt.Ironing!
OS Pleasures recently
Hearing BoP survive, and all your other pleasures.
The glorious fuzzy interrogative as my husband answers the phone when I've left my keys inside.
Recognising a certain type of army surplus pouch & thinking the wearer is [edited for taste] as it's being worn 'wrong'.
Listening to a colleague's delighted plans to visit New Zealand, with his blind mum. In another three years she'll retire & then he's thinking campervan & extended tour. Still starting with Hobbits, mind.
Giggling a bit as I push two tall leafy whitecurrants around the supermarket - doing dreadful things to visibility & handling. Well, that's what I'm claiming. They'll fill gaps in the edible hedge & *hopefully* distract hungry birds from the gooseberries... Himself just glad it's not another fruit tree & who'd a thought it? Three staff all keen & successful whitecurrant growers! One of whom pointed out the external tap so I could water them a bit.
Times Educational Supplement has a brilliant chunk on surviving exam season - 18 tips & splendidly well written.
"Well that was deep... [beat] ...Eeew! Yucky!" Ah, the processing speed of the teenage male. I swear his IQ swerves with his blood sugar.
I do love the way the bloke who cleans the ladies has a smile & friendly "how are you?" even as I crash in, ignoring signs, clearly well but desperate.
Three construction workers basking in unexpected sunlight on a bench, the remains of lunch neatly tucked in a Sainsburys bag for life at their feet. They are so enjoying sunlit tranquility!
Waved to the tailor - and got a wonderful, definitely English, smile back.
Impressed by the tidiness of construction folk. In 10 metres, three are moving dustsheets & one spotted *using* a rubbish bin.
"Ah, Yes! Science & Technology - improvised weapons" - my Economist has been leapt on (& I'd hoped it was just for the cartoons) - now I'll be lucky to read it this weekend at all.
Real pleasure watching husband disassemble an old sideboard - tenderly releasing some really glorious quarter sawn oak for new projects... Happy croons "brass screws!" [Squawk as son failed to hold wood & thus clobbered father - lovely black eye due tomorrow.] {Yes, classic and just in time for trip over to mother-in-law...}
Affectionate moment with youngest at supermarket recalling when I hefted him up to teach top shelves. He's taller than me now.
I do love the micro-conversations, queuing for the Ladies. Along with gentle grumbling about the weather, & becoming modesty about our sporting prowess, definitely a very British pleasure
Puttering past a carpark whose margins are getting green & realising there'll be a splendid crop of blackberries in a few months. What to blend with to ease the likely slightly diesel-y taste?
Son's grin at new mug. Locally made, with Totoro ('cartoon' character, Studio Ghibli) who is has special significance to the two of us.
Great big hugs to all, be tolerant of youthful frailties whilst trying to teach them good ways as you'll reap the benefits for *ages* after, and best of luck to Everyone involved in Exam Season. Not much longer now & we can all get to the Summer Holidays.0
