1. Stifling night here, but looking out and seeing all drippy wetness means no watering for a bit. Thankyou, says water bill.
Mowed neighbour's and &'s so-called grass yesterday. Ah, so that's why it rained:-)
2. 'Nights in White Satin' - Michelle Spring. All v. &Uni and social mores observant.

Good grief, surely & can't put her p/b up for sale at that price?
3. Summer veg. soup is still feeling just right. Apple use-up next - cinnamon and dried fruit will be there somewhere.
4. Heather Watson yesterday - great play/attack/attitude/progression. Have followed her for some years now, pre-London 2012. Have never, ever, warmed to Serena Williams and her gamesmanship, regardless of her play/ability. At least she did say Watson should have won.
5. While listening outside to 4., watched Father blackbird feeding 2 children lined up on no.2 shed roof. RSPB explains this can go on and 2-3 clutches annually is a norm[can be 4!], maybe using same nest, so had better leave &window one for now.

I am over and again massively knowledge-gapped in such basic things which I assume I've absorbed via barefoot native bush NZ Nature-loving/-knowing, observant childhood. Couldn't be more wrong:-).

1. Enjoyed watching/ listening to Heather Watson match amongst driving DH and DS1 to a rugby club dinner where Will Greenwood spoke.
2. Cleaned the house and found the carpets in both DS rooms.

I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
1) Another lovely day here for the village festival this afternoon, so many people came, so many people worked very hard to make it happen and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

3) Made another 6 lbs of gooseberry jam this morning from homegrown fruit, 10 lbs in all this year which will be nice in the colder months.

villagelife - Oooh, Will Greenwood. I love him! *sigh* He used to play for the Tigers, before returning to Harlequins. And he was at the same school as my brother - just not at the same time - and they both have their names side by side on the sporting honours board.
So, a busy few days. Always pleasures though:
1) Friday afternoon was spent seeing the new facilities, at the place where I work during the summer holiday, opened by the Duke of Gloucester. My father was awarded a token for being on the board of directors. He wasn't expecting me to be there as I told him that I had to be at work. Fortunately, my headteacher allowed me to take my PPA off site... Great to see him there and he had tears (of joy???) when I walked into the marquee.
2) Managed to exchange my BP vouchers for a Pizza Express voucher - buy one, get one free on main courses.
3) Went to a friend's engagement tea party this afternoon - one of my cake club friends. Another cake club friend had baked a divine Victoria Sponge. Yum, yum, yum!
4) Sorting out cards for birthdays and thank you letters. Seemed to be a few for this forthcoming week - all done and posted. There's nothing I like better than a physical letter/card through the post, so I like to send them too - despite the cost of second class postage NOT being particularly OS!
5) Another £3.96 payable through TopCashback! :j :j The earnings to date, over the past few years, has been £1,320.51 :j :j :j :jSealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
1) A much needed cooler day, this morning indeed so cool that I needed my dressing gown on to go up and open the hothouses, after the heat of the past week it feels so much nicer.
2) A proper lunch, sausages, mashed potato, carrots, green beans and cabbage AND GRAVY!!! the first proper hot meal in more than a week due to the heat and it was delicious.
3) A 4 mile walk with He Who Knows this afternoon across the common through the woodland path and back home along the lanes and footpaths, we had the sunshine by then but also a lovely cooling breeze which kept us comfortable.
4) A phone call from DD2 yesterday evening to say they'd had and accepted an offer on their flat and got almost the asking price. Buyers are not in a chain either, such good news.
5) Both of us feeling well again today after feeling a bit poorly yesterday afternoon, don't know what caused it but both had galloping indigestion and burpiness which was very uncomfortable. Today way much nicer!0
