& Thank you for the article re Cardington. It was an interesting read as the Sheds are just 8 miles from here and can be seen clearly as you drive along the A600. Since I've lived here, some 11 years, an airship has gone overhead twice. An amazing sight and sound, it could be heard some minutes before it came into sight. Now Mr B flies hot air balloons from there, not quite the same impact but beautiful to watch at sunset.
1. Eating ice cream and not feeling guilty, and drinking iced grapefruit juice
2. 3 cool showers yesterday, 2 so far today
3. Slept last night under a sheet lightly sprayed with cold water, ToppyDog slept on top of it and neither of us woke all night.
4. Up at 6am this morning to shampoo the sitting room rug and carpet. My very posh carpet cleaner, bought at 60% off as it was a mail order return, is so easy to use and worth its weight in gold. I don't see it much though, DD and one or two close friends like it too. The rug is already dry and the carpet not far behind.
5. After many phone calls, promises of coming to see what needs doing and being let down, I have a gardener starting work on Monday. It's a little late to prune the lilac tree but it's far too high now, and he'll dig out all the ivy to create a rockery He fixed my garden tap while he was here which will save a lot of time and heavy carrying.
Enjoy it while it lasts0 -
1. 600gms white currants just picked from my one crowded forgiving bush. Freezer expands, again.
2. Friend loves the lucky find large Nicholas Mosse mug booted the other week.
Her daughter collects it apparently, at great price, but won't be getting this one! Was tempted to keep it for stock:-) Vintage pattern, blue clematis, fetches £40+ per mug!
She had a well-struck layered fig tree for me, long planned replacement against front wall.
Parent tree is ancient, brutally pruned by Portugal-dwelling daughter whose finca expertise was correct. It was always a decent cropper, but this year is more verdant, more heavily laden, bigger leaves, than ever before, despite major savagery.
3. Usual trolley fetch at Mr T.....oh, 10p reverbe under wheel and '98p off next shop' chit abandoned within. That's w/e grauniad discount:-)
4. Cucumbers from Vicar, who is pressing them upon allcomers, says they're taking over her greenhouse. They're actually lovely to munch as apples.
5. No idea why I fell to thinking about summer veg. soup, but it's doing quiet simmer in pressure cooker and I'm looking forward to some after this.

That's a dramatic 'shed' size, sparrer. I've always loved the idea of airships too. Have only seen one for real.
pk - great that you heard your Dad's voice on the phone.
Frith - hope smaller son's recovery continues just as dramatically.
kk - if you pick up Waitrose Weekend paper, you'll see that Giffords Circus visits Oxford this coming week. Hadn't heard of them, but sounds full of charm - you and dd....?

My pleasures for today

2. Tomatoes appearing on my plants.
3. Checking out ideas for my ladies shed.
4. Downloading more books on my kindle.
5. More crochet on my never ending blanket.
6. Ds2 doing what's required for homework without too much moaning, I was just glad it wasn't simultenious equations again as I can't do them.
7. Speaking to dm on phone, her shed has a new roof courtesy of my brother.0 -
A nearly back to normal day!!
1) Another 11 hour sleep.
2) Bigger son cycled to school and seemed quite happy this evening.
3) Smaller son and I had a trip out. (I would like to say it was purely to build his appetite up but that is not strictly true). I have now paid a deposit on a new (er) car! 11 years old, compared with my 21 year old one. I said would he take mine in part exchange and he had a look and said he would, but would not be MOTing it to sell it...
4) Bloke kept good humoured after we'd sat in the new car, left it running (to check for overheating), played with the air conditioning and it ran out of petrol...
5) Had lunch in a farm shop - smaller son nearly ate a sandwich.
6) After school, took sons to get some new trousers.
7) Hayfever has improved throughout the day. Has been appalling the last few days and I have a sore throat with it.
8) Enjoyed the Brown/Nadal match.
9) Sons in bed and smaller son is singing along to Queen on his ipod!0 -
thank you so much for the uganda link & truly inspiring and humbling. super trouper indeed
1) someone left a covent garden soup in the fridge and emailed me to say he'd be away for the weekend and said i could dispose of the soup. he probably meant chuck it. i of course disposed of it the mse way. was lish :P
2) there was fruit left over from the viva lunch so that made a healthy pud
3) walked round the perimeter of the hospital (my pedometer is ensuring i get away from my desk!)
4) went round to mum's for a cuppa and a natter. she's off on holibags tomoz
5) still a bit of a smart phone virgin, was delighted to find, having accidentally left my charger at work, i can charge my phone with my ipad charger. yayMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

1. Been loving the weather. I feel so much better in the warmth. I can also cope working in it if I have a window that opens!
2. Work is continuing to be good - relaxed and I'm achieving more and happy to stay to complete what needs to be done. Everybody else is happier too. The new boss is bringing in lunch on Monday so I gave her some eggs from my chickens as I could manage to spare a few. Old boss wouldn't have dreamed of doing that as it would have cost too much!
3. Chats with neighbours generally about gardening.
4. DH been given a cucumber - he often comes home with garden produce, jam, marmalade and also biscuits.
5. Planted some pansy seeds to hopefully have some winter colour.
6. I had found some out of date runner bean seeds so planted them (just in June - the last recommended planting date) I may be lucky and get some beans from them.0 -
I’m having mwah day just an “off” day where I just feel grumpy and can’t shake it with any amount of evening primrose, I don’t like the feeling at all. It's the weekend:beer:
1. It’s Friday whoop whoop:beer::j
2. Home in good time:)
3. Re stocked the bird feeders:)
4. Made a “proper” effort put in home made curry which is simmering away.:p
5. Mowed through the garden grass jungle.:)
6. Time for a cold cider, and admiring the petunias:cool::p:beer:0 -
Very quick pleasures today as I'm very tired!
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Smaller son had good first day back at school. His teacher texted mid morning to say he was fine and had had some cake!
3) All OK for my first day back at work too. There was a conversation with the head teacher that my partner should have done some of the childcare so I could come back to work sooner. Pointed out that I don't have one... If you tell people what is wrong with son, it seems everyone has someone in their immediate family who has had waterworks problems solved by keyhole surgery!
4) Got some admin type jobs done at home.
5) Went swimming with smaller son and brother. Brother said "Why has he got 2 grey circles on his chest?" Had a look and he has two circles of fluff stuck to the glue that attached his heart monitors! The only other lasting effects are a sore hand from the cannula and still a little bit of a stiff neck.
6) Enjoyed the Heather Watson match and the Last Leg.
7) About to go to bed and listen to the Now Show.0 -

1. day off work :j

5. ongoing saga with the car - now been charged twice for the service plan I set up for next yearmanaged to cancel the second direct debit before it left my account. The pleasure is that a complaint email to the dealer has resulted in £25 free fuel as an apology.
Ampersand - sounds like you have a good deal re your tyres
PK - sending you a (((hug)))
Villiagelife - good to hear work is so much better. I feel a little guilty (only a little) moaning about my nasty colleague as they have nominated me for an awardDoesn't mean they are a nice person to work with though....
