Thanks for putting my mind at ease Carolyntia
I kind of assumed that as I'd had a service done the back end of last year, the oil would be fine....and (another excuse here), as I live on a hill, I forget to check the oil on a level surface when the engine is cold as it's not the easiest thing to remember
But, lesson learnt....it's not making the ticking sound all the time now, so that must be a good thing!
Not a problem Kittikins. Keep an eye on it over the next week as it should go down a bit as it improves. Hopefully it'll be a reminder for everyone else to do theirs......and the water and check the tyresnag nag nag
As my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0 -
Oh yeah, water and tyres......will check them tomorrow, honest guv'nor *goes off whistling*0

Hello all and Hola, Manuel!
Here are my pleasures for today:
1 - Made breakfast for myself (2 fried eggs on toast) but then DS came back from paper rounds and asked me if he could have one. He looked a bit worse for wear due to last night partying - of course I gave him one of the toasties and also made him some baked beans. Later on he came up to my office and thanked me really warmly, said he really appreciated it. Ahhh!
2 - Boss came to my home/office to continue handover and we managed to go through quite a lot in a fairly short time, so I had the afternoon free.
3 - Still re. work, she would like me to do the filing before I am finished but I can do this in the first few days of April (this means that I am going to get some salary for April as well, on top of a few hours annual leave that I am still owed). And no pressure - filing, wow, such excitement (NOT!) - nice and easy but while I was still doing all the other stuff I never had the time!
4 - Lovely lentil and veg soup for lunch with DD and DS.
5 - Haricot beans (1Kg) cooked ready to be turned into baked beans, all I need to buy is a bottle of cheap ketchup, I have all the other ingredients already.
6 - DH and DS loved the simple dinner I made, economy fish fingers, swede and potato mash, fried mushrooms and onions, peas (most veg were very well stickered, in the Co-op).
Good night everybody xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Don't know if I'll find 5 for today, its been very quiet.
1) Painted mum and dad's bathroom and loo while they are away. Looks like a 2nd and even perhaps a 3rd coat will be needed.
2) Brother came for tea and I took a video on the phone of he and the boys playing "Tanks" on the Wii and falling about laughing.
3) Did some chicken Kievs for tea with last night's rice fried with omelette bits and some peas. And did some carrots.
4) Finally got smaller son to do his written homework and he finished his reading book.
That's it! Feeling a bit flat now after my lovely weekend.

Oh Bella, so am I pleased my purse turned up. It left me feeling quite insecure, something that isn't me at all and I hated that feeling. The manager of the store (local Mr M) was so kind, saw I was shaken and even offered me a cuppa and/or one of the female staff to take me home. I've written to him and their HO to make sure they're thanked officially.
Megs mum - Tardii, Tardes or perhaps just Tardis' :rotfl:
ABerrisford good luck with the flat hunting, I remember looking for a first home for OH and me, it was fun
emilyka, they are, aren't they? Lovely to have a forum where everybody gets one so well and is always concerned about the other posters :A
Hi julie67  welcome aboard and thanks for sharing your OS pleasures
katholicos not at all bizarre...house, mind and soul in order, it's what everybody could do with at times
niksyg your trip out with a picnic sounds lovely. It reminded me when I lived in E Sussex and loved to go to Seven Sisters for a wander. I miss it, and the sea, living so far inland as I do now
CCP your evening meal sounds delicious, hope it made up for your yukky day
welcome saraht, sounds like a great list to start, hope you keep coming back
GirlySquare I love your cuddling DD every morning, long may it last - my DD became quite distant in her teens, as they do, but you've plenty of time before you get that far
nuttybabe I do understand, I was fortunate in that OH was always good about doing chores and DS was older and helped out too. Now it's just me so I'm thinking of selling my car in a year or two and buying a camper van, then I can become an old age traveller :rotfl:
Kitchenbunny welcome to Manuel, hope he doesn't run rampant like my basil did. I have to keep cutting him down to size!
jollymummy I like Secret Millionaire too and am still waiting...;)
Kittikins sending good vibes for your little car, or parp parp as Noddy would say:D
house elf bless your DS, what a lovely thing to think of saying. He's a special one
Tealady great to get back on track with your eating habits, mine and my stomach have gone to pot completely of late!
Carolyntia congrats on the daffodils, mine still aren't showing anything but I keep talking to them so hopefully not long now
Caterina, swede and potato mash  one of my favourites, with butter and black pepper. Yummy!
ACEY Painting, filming, cooking, listening to reading is quiet? I'm worn out thinking about it!
My 5 -
1. Having a lovely big bowl of soapy water and washing all my smalls by hand
2. Lunching on a few bits of left over salad and a couple of sausages which needed eating. Different, but really quite tasty together
3. Sorting out end of month finances and finding myself £40 up!
4. Putting the £40 away toward car tax which is due at end of May. Only another £30 to find :T
5. Having DNeighbour in for a cuppa this pm and arranging to do our first car boot of the year next weekend. We usually do 2 a year, hopefully I'll earn enough to finish saving for the tar tax and a little more towards taking DM on holiday later in the year.
Night night (((everybody))) sleep well
S x0 -
Morning all. I just thought I'd pop in quickly while drinking my coffee and desperately trying to stay awake (apparently yesterday's work chaos upset me more than I would have thought as I had some horrible dreams last night, so I'm half-asleep this morning
).
sparrer - I'm definitely sleepy - I read your first pleasure and expected it to say "a big bowl of soup" - it took me a few confused moments to work out that you weren't talking about food and weren't drinking soapy water!
Carolyntia - good thinking on the oil/water - luckily my friendly mechanics checked mine for me when they did the repairs last week. I think they felt that, having done nearly £150 pounds' worth of work, they might as well check the oil and water while they were there.
Tealady - fingers crossed for no snow for you on Thursday.
house elf - I love the idea of padding your tardis with sponge cake - ingenious! :T Who would have thought the tardis had edible shock absorbers?
Kittikins - I'm sending 'get well soon' thoughts to your car - keep going, little car!
jollymummy - congrats on your new job! :T
Kitchenbunny - I'm glad you're feeling better. I hope you and Manuel are very happy together.
And finally... welcome new peeps. The world needs more pleasures, so welcome on board.
Right, I must go and have more coffee......

Back after a very long break!0 -
Morning all
No problem finding 5 today:
1. Having daffodils around the house - I had 2 bunches for 20p on yellow sticker. I have some on my bedside table which is just the loveliest thing to wake up to.
2. A twinks hobnob with a cup of tea for elevenses (well it was more like half past ten-ses because I couldn't wait any longer!)
3. After months of saving I went shopping on the weekend and bought myself two gorgeous summer dresses, spend more than my usual budget but worth every penny! They are so beautiful I have hung them up outside the wardrobe so I can see them, yes they are too pretty to be shut away.
4. A little more frugal this time - won a little flowery tea dress on ebay for the grand sum of £3, fits perfectly but it's a bit short to wear as a day dress. Going to pop to the fabric shop this evening and buy some black cotton to make an underskirt with some black lace for the bottom to peep out under the hem and add a few inches to the length. Might get some fancy new buttons for it too
5. Finally finished my scrap yarn crochet blanket! Started it nearly a year ago but it had to be put on hold many times waiting for spare yarn to come along. I am really pleased with it and spend a good 15 mins last night gazing adoringly at its fabulousness. OH humoured me by gazing adoringly for approximately 10 seconds then asked if he could be excused. It is very OS as all the yarn was either scrap or second hand so the total cost was less than £100 -
Morning all
Carolyntia I have to say I'm not too sure.... One of my friends went there is something not right with my brain haha. I actually felt it was a real let down in comparison to previous years. Oh well more money for my chest freezer!
Ok! Here are mine for this week:
1. Just received my delivery of meat from an online provider I haven't ordered from before and I am so impressed. I ordered a 1.25Kg of free range gammon for £7.50 and it came and was 1.6kg! Plus a lovely piece of lamb leg, a couple of sweet cured bacon chops some sausages a large chicken and some delicious looking burgers- All my weeks meat for £30! Am definitely going to order from them again!
2. Have now got enough money in my budget for a small chest freezer so am gonna go look after my hospital appointment today!
3. Had an order from Asda delivered yesterday- guide price was £50 came to the door and the receipt was £144!!!!! I returned it back to the driver saying there is no way I can afford that much for the tiny amount of food you have here and went up to Tesco. When I got there they had reduced sooo many things and got some amazing bargains- even a big box or shitake mushrooms for 12p and a finest desert for 30p! So it worked out well in the end.
4. Have finally also decided to get some lock and lock containers, so I can make ready meals and put them in the freezer (see point three) however I'm not sure whether to order from QVC or lakeland- QVC seem to do a better deal and they have purple and pink lids which appeal to me so I may get them from there.
5. The snow has finally stopped! It was horrid last night, especially at Tesco at nine thirty at night, however it was nice to go out to Tesco and be almost the only person there! Hopefully that's the snow off for the rest of the week!
Enjoy the week folks!Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790 -

Great to hear your gammon came and it was bigger than thought- I remember your initial posting about it :j What was the website again? I think when I have emptied the freezer I may have to get involved!
My OS pleasures for today:
-Homemade lunch taken to work (only 1 'bought' lunch for both myself and OH in March)- lazy !!!!!! will always buy lunch at work unless I make his sandwiches. He claims 'your sandwiches taste better than mine'- he thinks i've fallen for that line but what he doesnt know is he has been signed up to help dig the allotment this weekend
-Not going to be an NSD as planned but this is due to buying seeds, an 'investment in future vegetables'!! :rotfl:
-Turned off CH for the last time today (unless of course it snows it will be wooly jumpers all round if cold!)
-Bolognaise for dinner (can now make enough for me and OH for 75p each)
-Wander into town at lunch to mosey round the charity shops (window shopping only of course!!)
Happy Tuesday everyone[STRIKE]Saving for a deposit on a flat[/STRIKE]

It was these http://www.douglaswillis.co.uk/ they won best independent retailer of the year in 2006 and my package came with frozen ice blocks in it to keep it cool lol. Now I have a big old polystyrene box which I may have to reuse in the garden somewhere lol! I think though I will order next time a months worth as it's free delivery then and put it in the freezer.Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790
