Well, I got a bit more sleep last night. It was nice to doze off in a bed again! Thanks for all of the support. It was a boost to me, I can tell you.

I spent most of yesterday either dozing off, checking MSE or making a very long list of things I want from L*kel*nd. At least people with no clue what to get me will have a very good idea now. ;) I double checked most of them with DH and he can actually see the practical value of the things I want too - and is happy for me to get them (at some point). Today, I'll do more of the same - watch the F1, doze a bit (knowing me), and cook spaghetti bolognese for tea. I don't think we're off out anywhere today, so it'll be another nice day at home. Plenty to do though!

Here are my five pleasures from yesterday:

    1) A friend turning up. It was great to see her as she completely took me as I was. Bless her.
    2) Making my birthday and Christmas gift list - early, I know, but if I want to buy people things for presents during the year, why shouldn't I extend the same courtesy? ;)
    3) That chicken and chorizo stew was lovely, and definitely one I'll make again.
    4) Reading old cookbooks with a view to getting rid of some. As most of my recipes - excepting a few Nigella ones - are online, I wondered about using my shelf space to grow herbs. :)
    5) Watching a great film with DH. Even if I dozed off at one point, I woke up at the main story points so I got the whole idea.

Well, that's my five a day. Got to score some more now for tomorrow. :) Have a great day, everyone (((hugs)))

Morning all! Hope everyone is OK. My 5 for yesterday:

    1. The couple who came round to meet Penny and Gizmo fell for them (which was inevitable, as they are gorgeous - the cats, that is, not the couple!). P and G are still with me but will go to their new home later this week.

    2. Catching up with my favourite US crime dramas in the evening.

    3. Catching up with sleep in the day - I don't always get enough in the week.

    4. Lovely cuddles with Penny in the evening.

    5. Hmm, struggking a bit to think of five, it really was a quiet, peaceful day yesterday. Guess it was good to have a day off from the gym!

We are all on this site to be money saving but that does not mean we have to be sad because we need to pay our bills before any luxury.
We can all be comfortable and elegant in our own way.

This morning I picked some daffodils for the first time this year, from the garden, after hanging the washing on the line to dry.:)
The daffodils are now sitting in a cut glass vase near the sink. If I left them in the garden the wind and rain would have the better deal this time of year.:(
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
    Spring begins on 21st March.

Too true!I have (had) some beautiful yellow crocus with a brown stripe on and they were gorgeous - till we had a hailstorm! Poor things have not revived.
  • We are lucky enough to be borrow a house in Normandy from a friend at work. So Easter in France for thr price of travel. :)

Also as it is early in the year I won't have to worry about looking after my new fruit and veg plants.
    Put the kettle on. ;)

    Hi Mrs Thrify,

My reasons to be cheerful today was the sun shining while I was driving for work this morning the lovely smell of fresh herbs when I opened the greenhouse door when I got home from my morning calls. :)

There's an existing thread where Old Stylers 'count their blessings' so I'll add your thread to it later to keep the replies together.

I always feel very sad when this happens, but at least they will come again next year. I think thats the beauty of bulbs, they come again and bring new hope.

Hi all, thanks for all the well wishes. Still peeing my pants about the job interview but not quite as badly :D

    1. OH put all the clocks forward at 9pm last night so we all went to bed early and I didn't miss the lost hour.

    2. Everyone liked and ate the pork cobbler last night - good and moneysaving as sainsbugs do basics pork shoulder ;)

    3. Chicken risotto for lunch - yum.

    4. Crumpets this afternoon. Not home made but still good.

    5. Dug out my macrame bag project that I stopped (last summer) as I needed to make it bigger and feel a bit more inspired to do some more. I have lots of half finished craft projects :o

    6. This thread. All the good little snippets from everyone remind me to appreciate the things we have.

    Afternoon all.

Sorry that my five for yesterday are a bit late - I meant to post them first thing this morning but I was out with friends until late last night and woke up this morning feeling a bit _pale_.

newlywed - good luck with the interview tomorrow.

Carolyntia - I hope your job situation gets sorted soon.

savingforoz - I'm glad you've found a good home for the puddy tats - it sounds like they'll be very happy there.

house elf - your Tardis project brings back memories - I remember doing something very similar at school, but as a landing craft for a space shuttle rather than a tardis. :)

Blimus - I hope your DS feels better soon - chicken pox is a miserable thing, isn't it?

jexy - I love the pic of your bottle greenhouse - it looks fab. I hope you get your staff situation sorted asap.

Here (rather belatedly) are my five for yesterday:

    1) Spent most of the morning in the garden - got my second batch of seeds in, potted up my new rhodedendron, planted out the dicentra my mum gave me, and pruned the hardy fuschia (which I swear has triffid ancestry - no matter how thoroughly I prune it, it just keeps coming back!).

    2) Got some towels out on the line to air.

    3) Lovely sunset over the sea.

    4) Met up with friends in the evening, including a couple I haven't seen since before Christmas.

    5) Watching a group of girls in very short skirts trying to impress the DJ. I know the DJ well and know he has a boyfriend - strangely enough, he didn't seem very interested in the girls' antics! smiley-laughing002.gif

    And five for today:

    1) Curled up on the sofa and watched the re-run of the grand prix on iplayer until I felt less smiley-sick007.gif

    2) And my team (McLaren) won. :j

    3) My first tulip is out - surprising as none of the others are even showing any colour yet.

    4) I've made a banoffee pie to use up some over-ripe bananas, although I suspect I'm only going to want a tiny piece today. :o

    5) Admiring photos of my parents' new guinea pigs - they're so sweet and tiny.

Have a good afternoon / evening, everyone.
Back after a very long break!

    1. DD and I had a pyjama morning, cuddling, singing and trying to do
the Saturday T8legraph crossword, DD asked me if we could do it which was lovely as I'd not noticed I was reading that section of the paper, clever young stick (whenever we're at grandparents, it's a tradition to do the c/w after lunch on Saturday and we try and tailor clues to suit DD. I was so pleased that she remembered :):) )

    2. When we eventually got dressed, DD put on a gorgeous dress and her fairy wings and went out to water the garden, she looked gorgeous.

    3. I played with my new camera and have a gazillion photos of her doing the above. I love the camera and might even go against my usual nature and read the book so I can take ever better pictures!! :)

    4. We did lots of gardening, planting seeds, making up the little plastic greenhouse, water, cutting back brambles. When we came in, she drew us gold stars as we'd done such a good job, lol.

    5. A NSD as we've not left the boundary of the garden! 14 so far this year, pitiful isn't it!!

    6. Got the bedding dry outside.

    7. Planning on making a chicken doorstop tonight if I don't fall asleep first! Now that spring is here, the doors are open more and every year I think about how to wedge them open so they don't bang shut, this might be the year I actually do something about it!!
