  • nuttybabe - well done on clearing one of your credit cards. You must feel so much free-er!
kittikins - sorry to hear about your car dying. I hope it gets sorted quickly and that the 'pot' covers it (well done for that too - I really must make a pot for car maintenance).
jexy - omg I LOVE your bottle greenhouse! :T
kitchenbunny - hope you feel better soon.
    carolyntia - good girl - that's the spirit! :T

I'm housebound with DS2 at the moment as he has chicken pox. This is only the second day and he's okay (apart from being spotty and itchy) at the moment but I'm nervous for him about what's in store and how long it lasts. So here are mine from yesterday:

    1) Thankful that (so far so good) DS2 isn't too uncomfortable with his chicken pox.
    2) Found a vintage cast iron skillet in the shed that I had bought a couple of years ago at a car boot sale for camping. It was perfect for making my cornmeal tortillas on.
    3) A load of really good whoopsies in Mr Ms yesterday, including a mini beef joint for 35p and some topside of beef for 25p - going to make a casserole with it.
    4) Snuggled up on the sofa reading 'Mr Popper's Penguins' with DS2,
    5) Watching tv in the eve and an early(ish) night.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

    Hello Peeps!

Attempt mark III to post reply. It seems DS1 is not culprit for dodgy internet. I think it's $ky being generally rubbish:mad:

This week is just the sort of week when I should be trying to find 5 OS pleasures a day, but , like Jexy I have been too busy/tired/dispirited to try. I have been reading everyones posts and enjoying them vicariously! Thanks guys:T

Nutty Babe - Gloop has worked really well except on DS1 school shirts. I added Borax to the draw which helped, but will get some Napisan as advised on the laundry thread to keep whites bright. How have you modified your recipe?

Sparrer - Hope the buffet went well, it sounded wonderful. :)

    5 recent pleasures

    1. Reading this thread.:A
    2. My Easter project idea celebrating the return of Dr Who and Easter eggs! Getting the kids at school to assemble cardboard TARDIS to carry an egg. For homework they need to find some protecive material to protect their egg. Next week we will drop the TARDIS from various heights to test the effectiveness of their protective material! This is how my boss looked when he found out:eek: Tee Hee:rotfl:
    3. Took the dog for a walk round the University lake last night. Fed the ducks and swans by moonlight. They were surprsed!
    4. Saw a badger as we walked back to the car.
    5. DS1 had a good parents evening. Seems he is doing well, which is a relief as we don't see any evidence of studying at home:eek:

    Have a lovely day :) HE x

    Hello everyone

    Kittikins - Thank you. :D

Tealady - Thanks, its amazing how happy I am about paying it.

BlimusOreily - you are right, it does make you feel free'r to have just cleared one!

House elf - i changed it by putting vim and stardrops in the washing one and added stardrops to the dishwasher one. I have to confess though that I did think vim was the same as borax which is why i used it!!! :o But it worked! :T And dont add vim to any that you will use in dishwasher as it leaves a powder on everything and gave me a nasty taste in my mouth after having a cup of tea out of a freshly washed mug!!!! :(

    Mine for today:

    1 A lie in :j

2 A fry up this morning

3 Took the kids to see walking with dinosaurs (only had to pay for 1 of them!!! :D) and they all loved it.

4 Met up with friends in the pub for a quick drink whilst kids went in the soft play with their kids.

5 A nice evening watching a scary film that we rented for free as a credit on account.

Best get the tired little monkeys to bed!

Hope everyone has a good evening.

    Today's OS pleasures:-

    1. For the first time in nearly 42 years DH cooked the breakfast. Is this really OS? Don't think real OS men ever cooked breakfast.

    2. DH brought me tulips - no it's not my birthday but had been finding things a bit hard going and this was a pick me up - bless him.

    3. DH planting chitted seed potatoes in last years bags.

    4. A cup of tea and a hm muffin in the summerhouse.

    5. Doing some crochet squares from the tiniest scraps of wool, I will get that wool stash down, I will, I will.

    Bella.

    Evening Everyone,

Jexy - Welcome back. Hope you get your staffing problems sorted soon.
Sparrer - That buffet sounds amazing no wonder the numbers keep going up if they have heard what you are feeding them
Newlywed - Good luck with the interview on Monday
Blimus - When DD had chicken pox I was told to put bicarb of soda in the bath water as it is soothing but not harsh on the skin. It seemed to work for her. Hope your DS feels better soon.

Mine for today, which definetly wasn't a no spend day:eek:
    1. Great trip to the Ideal Home Show with DD. Lots of interesting shows and some good freebies
    2. Getting to sit at the Chef's table while Aldo Zilli cooked fresh pasta and lamb ragu for us. The food was yummy
    3. At one point lost DD but found her on the show kitchen stage tasting HM ice-cream with Greg Wallace (Master Chef fame):rotfl:
    4. Bought myself a few goodies which I couldn't resist:cool:
    5. Lovely lunch of vegetarian curry and rice

Home now and feeling very tired but had a great day with DD who loved every minute of it and so nice to spend some quality time together.

Hugs to all who need them

Wow bella, your OH sounds like a lovely chap, shame it's taken 42 years to get round to making your breakfast, hope it doesn't take him another 42 years to repeat the experience, lol.

    1. My car seems to have healed itself, I started it up this morning to drive up to the garage, and the warning message had gone, I managed to get into 4th gear....but I've left it at the garage for them to find out what happened on Monday, in case it's an intermittent fault that will get worse. Fingers crossed though that it's going to be fine :)

    2. I managed to wash, comb (without too many grizzles, having the favourite programme on CB**bies helped) and put DD's hair into a bun in readiness for her dance exam this morning. My lovely friend who picked us up yesterday checked the bun and said it was very good, she put a few pins in and some hairspray to make it rock solid as apparently they get marked on their appearance as well as on their dancing!

    3. DD really enjoyed her exam and hopefully we won't have to wait too long to find out how she did.

    4. Helped at school this afternoon and had a lovely time with 60 children :)

    5. The friend whose daughter is currently asleep on my sofa whilst she has a well-deserved evening out brought me a bottle of wine to say thank you for babysitting - and so far I've not touched it (polishing my halo instead).

    6. A very lovely surprise this one - the people who live behind me obviously got fed up with the dodgy fence between our houses which according to my deeds is my responsibility, and this morning they replaced it with a lovely new fence! Hoorah! It was something my pa and I were talking about only this week, so great timing that they have sorted it out, not least because it's the accumulation of leaves/plants/rubbish on their side that was causing the problem. So, whilst legally it was my responsibility, I'm very glad they've saved me lots of money :):)

    oooh just remembered another one:
    7. I found DD's missing book bag which has been on another planet for a whole week!! To my shame, it had fallen down the back of the cooker! Silly me......

    Busy day today - here's my 5!

    1) Was brought breakfast in bed made by bigger son. 2 boiled eggs followed by erm...a piece of cake :-)

    2) Managed a bit of a tidy up.

    3) Went with the boys on 2 scooter rides in different directions through the village.

    4) Went swimming with my brother. Its a school pool with no staff or lifeguards and usually very few swimmers. When I went in the (ladies) changing room, in the shower cubicle in front of me was a large man with a women sitting on his shoulders! I thought to myself that I have led a sheltered life and this was something I would have to Google later but it turned out they were trying to get their son's ball down from the wall where he'd thrown it!

    5) Was invited to tea at my neighbour's house. I can't tell you how unusual this is (not that we are enemies or anything). So sons and I went round there. His children are with his ex-wife this weekend and I don't think he is used to these lonely weekends yet :-( That aside, it was marvellous and my sons really enjoyed it!

    6) Left there after 8pm and at 8.30 Earth Hour started. We turned all the lights off (then the outside automatic light turned on and we rushed to turn that off too!) We played Murder in the Dark for a while then the boys put their dressing gowns on and we went over the road to look at the stars. Their school had a massive inflatable planetarium on loan from ThinkTank (in Birmingham) last week so they could point out the Plough and Orion's Belt. They were really chuffed! Then we came back in and I read some of the Space book by torchlight and little son fell asleep while I was doing that.

All in all, a good day and I have caught up with bigger cat so they should both be worm free now!

    Evening All,

Nutty Babe - Vim! Theres a blast from the past! Will have to look out for Vim and Star Drops. If I can find ACDO I will have the full set of cleaning products that my Nana used :rotfl:True OS.

Jexy - love thepic of the greenhouse. I think I can do a similar thing with the play house now nobody uses it anymore. This could be a place to grow tomatoes! Thanks for the idea :T

    5 for today

    1. Trip to the Rag Market while DS2 did his dance class. Found a Calvin Klein jumper for DH for £2.
    2. Tackled some major jobs in the kitchen like cleaning the cooker and the floor.
    3. Popped into Mr T on the way back from collecting DD from work and found lots of YS bargains. Only wanted milk:o
    4. Chuck Wagon pork and beans in SC for tomorrow.
    5. Bought seed potatoes and some seeds from Homebase 15% off. Just need to dig over the new veg patch now.

Just looking at recipes for Dorset Apple Cake as we have lots of wrinkly apples too! Will have a go at this tomorrow.

    Night Night. x

evening! Dont forget the clocks go forward today! well yesterday or when ever you read this!
Thank you for all your lovely comments, I feel like a right drama queen and im not honest! I just felt really rough, like I couldnt find the energy to reply even if I wanted to so much, it was still inspiring to keep up with the thread though and read what you are all up to :) And I realised that even if I dont reply, or just post my own, that helps me realise that things are never as bad as they seem. Enough of me!

KBunny - sorry you arent well, I am sure OH doesnt mind as much as you think, he loves you for you - coughs and all :) hope you feel better soon.
Sparrer - I won a hamper, did I tell you????? hope the buffet went well, and the transportation, the rice sounds lovely :D it is great you have so much on, we thrive on it right??? :D ( I understand the pride at being asked go you!)
Saving for oz - ok, we had the story thing, you made me desperate to read it, I thought we sorted it, but in view of the fact you are getting comments and peopel are loving it., WHERE IS IT!!!!!!! you are SUCH a mean tease! ( thank you for making me feel missed, it is appreciated very much:) :)
Carolyntia - I am so glad that you have your cushion, AND am pretty sure you will have your choice / be snapped up soon IF you want to be- some time out could work too! You made a brave move, now make the most of it! More MSE time :D Again tthankyou for your lovely comments, Im fine, I will get over my drama queen moments as usual!
Newly wed! GO GIRL! You are doing ace, grabbing the bull and stuff! You will be fine at interview, they NEED you, you have options! And the people interviewing are nervous too! Be you, and its a win win situation :) Dont look at it as OMG Havent had an interview for years, look at it as OMG DO THEY KNOW HOW GOOD I AM! The imagining them naked always works too ( unless they are a george clooney double which could be a distraction!) Cant wait to hear how it went!
Houself - I feel for you, truly I do, but can you NOT use big words like vicariously! They make me look bad:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: - glad we got that out of the way! I LOVE the tardis idea, I want to play! And i was trying to think of things! I truly want to know what worked best!
Nutty, what a lovely day :) I did mention about sock monkeys but i think it was deleted, so will pm properly to organise it!
Bella 42 years!!!! I hope it was worth the wait !!!!! In reality, after waiting so long, what a surprise and totally OS in my book :) long may it continue.
Girly, thank you too for your comments :) I love reading about everyone here. Im so with you on come dine with me - more for the sarcastic comments of the commentator than the recipes!
Tealady - I AM SO JEALOUS! freebies from a show and a chefs table story too boot, thats amazing! Again thank you for the welcome back :)
Kitti - I giggled at your post, from the bun (which in a way is silly, surely her hair shouldnt affect her dance scores!) to the missing book behind the cooker comment! and it was lovely you posted that your friend had a well deserved break, be careful that halo doesnt slip and strangle you tho - to be sure I would drink the wine :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:GJ on the fence!

Ok so mine - sorry if I missed anyone out, Im still a YTS (if anyone is old enough to remember what one is!)

    1) H is coming back !!!:j:j:j:j:j:j (thats the lady I talked about and told her to go away and think not only of the good stuff, as its easy to remember how good it was when you havent had to do it for a while!)
    2) Interviewed a young lad for the kitchen and he seems nice, and keen, with a bit of experience, so he is starting Weds. Cross it all that it works!
    3) a good service tonight, we were fully booked which is great, and turns out that alot were "referals" as in they had asked where to eat and been recommended here, or where they are staying, the guest book said to come eat here, so cant be that bad right :)
    4) the boiler still isnt right, but, hoping we can get an engineer out on monday or tuesday, which is a stay of execution as we were supposed to be opening 7 days a week as from this week again (we close monday and tuesday through the winter which is proper days off for me) but with a dodgey boiler and staff probs we decided to stay closed (we may miss a fair bit of trade, but it feels ace to know i have another day off before summer!)
    5) What 5 is complete without my girls... its wet, so wet... and when i let them out at 7 they were happier than me that it was dry ( could have been the porridge influence tho!) I am thinking, as their run is a quagmire, that when i go clean them out tomorrow, I might let them roam out the gate and up the hill a bit, they have no green in their pen atm! They would love it, and if i time it so they are hungry, they wont go far! They have a 81 meter square run atm, but its nto about space, its about the fact that now they understand freedom, they longingly stare through the fence / try for escape when i go in (the grass is always greener right!) and i know their stomachs rule - and also that they go home to bed! So will post pics of the first great adventure if I let them loose! I feel like a mommy dreading the first day of school but on a smaller scale ofc :D

Right clock forward, its late... very late! Thank you all for posting your pleasures, I love reading them, even if I dont appear! I am here ! Keep it up! Even when its hard to find them (I will now go away and practice what i preach!)
    hugs xxx
