5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2
Comments
-
Good evening everyone :hello:
& - lucky, lucky person! Sounds amazing!
mhagster - I haven't watched The C Word yet. Rather thinking that I'll have to be by myself with the curtains closed.
fuddle - oooh, a scone with jam and cream, washed down by tea. Delicious! :j
Pleasures for today:
1) A visit to Mr T's. Not a pleasure as such, but as very few people were as mad as me, it was relatively quiet. I've managed to top up on loo roll - hopefully it'll last us until the Autumn!
2) Visited a local village's May Fair. A lovely amount of people and a variety of stalls. We bought a couple of plants, which are now in the garden. DH thinks we have too many lupins, but relented when I said I wanted another. Their flowers are divine.
3) Had a massive "buying" session for tickets at the local arts centre/cinema, including Benedict Cumberbatch in Hamlet in November. *sigh* First thing I'm going to see is "Dark Horse" this Friday.
4) Now I know I'm teaching my grandmother to suck eggs, but I found this about 5 easy ways to make soup from leftovers. Thought it might come in handy for someone.
5) Finished yet another book. I really must start reading some slightly more intellectual books...
I hope everyone has a good week.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
Congratulations M&M! Ampersand - sounds like you had an amazing day at the Rugby!
Mhags - thinking about you and hoping the small op went ok - not watched the C word yet either - I used to work in oncology and now work in a hospice so close to my heart - but I kids have been around all weekend so need peace to watch it!
So pleasures over the last few days:
1. Managed to do a bit in the garden yesterday - DS cut the grass (for money of course!) but at least he did it! I planted out the leeks and basil seedlings and messed around with some of the planters and pots - more to be done though! Does it ever end?
2. Had a nice meal at a friends last night with wine and laughs - film (Jupiter Rising) was not great!
3. Went to an open garden today which was raising money for my work - was very pleasant! Kids behaved ok and they ate cake in the sun!
4. Yesterday was a NSD (the first for a while!!!) Today wasn't but one day is better than none!!!
5. Cheeky 3 day week to look forward to - going to Races on Thursday (annual event with friends all paid for and even wearing a free dress and fascinator!)0 -
HI. Just joined and loving the OS threads! OS pleasures this weekend:
1) Washing on the line long enough to bring it in dry (it's Scotland in May - that's a minor miracle!)
2) Finished a library book I'd ordered and I was the first one to open it - wonderful.
3) Ran out of scourer for the kitchen sink which was horrible with tea stains so I used salt and a damp cloth. Worked perfectly, in fact it shined up better than it does usually.
4) Does watching Game of Thrones count as "old style"?? LOLLooking ahead0 -
My pleasures over last few days
1 time spent with family.
2 spending time in the garden
3 chatting with ds2 who is nearly 15.
4 a friend coming over and putting the world to rights.
5 seedlings growing, my lettuce is just right now.
6 eBay sales did well.
7 did some more crochet on my never ending blanket.
8 lovely sunshine today
9 good chat with mum
10 packages all done for eBay sales ready to post.0 -
Those recipes look yummy vickya and i just happen to have some spare pesto (albeit currently frozen into cubes)
hugs to mrs and mrs mhags
rugby sounds fab & i'm off to see edinburgh against Leinster 16th
1) got loverly feedback from student " "This module has turned out to be the most insightful and thought provoking to date from both a professional and a personal standpoint. "Makes it all worthwhile.
2) left over hm macaroni cheese for lunch
3) supper at mum's. liver and bacon and mash with leeks. yum
4) then we watched 'the lost supper'. may just be on stv. today's recipes were lentil and ham soup, ashette steak pie and hm icecream with macaroons. the lentil soup had swede in (sorry mhags, i mean of course neep) and looked absolutely lish.
5) then home to 2 giggling girls. dd1 had dyed the ends of dd2's hair a glorious deep pink. very nice.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Evening all
I've been away over this weekend.
:hello: Hiya Susan. You'd be surprised as what counts as OS here! I think it's the stopping and thinking about things and appreciating them that's the OS bit really as well as celebrating the tiniest of things as well as the huge ones.
M&M, lovely news. Congratulations. Would you like a trillion bridesmaids? I bet we could gather together a gang from here (what is the collective noun for bridesmaids?) all dressed in charity shop stuff and bringing our own packed food and thermoses to keep your costs down. BoP could come as a pirate-in-waiting... BoP?
Mhags, Mr Mhag and family, I hope the little op went well. I was thinking of you when I watched The C-word.
Mrs LW, I love the idea of high-fiving Oma online.:)
&, has your voice returned from TW2 yet?
Get well soon to all the poorly legs.
[STRIKE]Five[/STRIKE] Six pleasures for the last few days:
1. Just getting away for a little bit. Ok, it was work but it was a different few walls and lots of nice people I don't get to see very often as well as meeting some new ones.
2. Discovering Home Fires on itvplayer. That was a treat.
3. Selling some stuff over the weekend which puts a bit of unexpected cash in the coffers and clears a bit of space.
4. Getting a little camping stove for the allotment shed on Freecycle. I can set myself up with full catering facilities there now,
5. Hearing from DS1 about some of the very lovely things that are being said behind our backs about the club we are running. Various spies have been telling him about things they've heard!
6. Completely bonkers, very British, May-weekend celebrations in the village this evening. This is a very special country.
Sweet dreams

Getting back home after walking the Dockling in this horrendous wind both in one piece, albeit trifle dishevelled!!!
Having my hair trimmed this morning and not looking like a dandelion clock any longer.
Walking round a corner in the road this afternoon into a sheltered little dip where there was a huge clump of Arum Lillies like white trumpets filling the air with a heady perfume.
Walking round the recreation ground and finding one of the fences filled by an early pink clematis in full bloom, tumbling down almost to the ground.
Making carrot soup and rhubarb crumble to see us through the next couple of days, I like cooking!!!0 -
Frith - oThankHeavens re:smaller son & his operation - may it happen without too much stress.
MandM - congratulations! Hope for (largely) happy planning, splendid day, & glorious decades of matrimony ahead!
mhagster - glad school being helpful if Haggis less so. All the very best with the rollercoaster!
ampersand - huzzah the latch - joyful times - glad you have heard from our not-gaolbird - please pass on best wishes for new future?
fuddle - passionfruit curd? Sounds amazing!
Broomstick - "a terror of bridesmaids", perhaps?!
susan - I'd say enjoying GoT is OS, as running Kings Landing etc in "real" time must cost HBO a bundle!
OS Pleasures recently
Bank holiday special - the chaps intend to cook pork stir fry! (My offer of Asda pizza turned down flat.) [Delicious!]
Welcome to the family, princess! [Charlotte!] Not even in overnight - though I'm sure her team can look after her properly. Chuckling at Russian conspiracy theory that baby *can't* be mere hours old as mother looks sensational!
Found a Denby teapot, small & round & filthy but unchipped and downright affordable. (Resisted a full set of reliably Denby but still not that beautiful chinaware.) Himself also did well amongst the pottery - four new clay pipes - happy holidays (with aromatic defences against insects) await!
"It's too easy - I need something like soufflee but not as foolish" - child scheming over his intended next food tech triumph. (He wanted duck - his father was delightfully MS on the subject.) [Then let him buy one pepper for 70 pence, aargh.]
Oh my. Kit spotting - "you don't use a *turning* chisel to cut ribs" & "ah, Swann Morton 26" (specific scalpel blade) - during Grimm (you can't watch *much* without comment & even SF isn't safe...)
Just crooning over how the skinny whips have leafed up and begun to look like credible young hedging. As for the trees! Each has green tips, some ruffles of leaf, and brings a remarkable sense of hope, well being, renewed faith.
Hearing young Explorers being awarded their Module A Young Leaders badge. Badge, handshake, "well done": then an award of biscuits. Explorer scouts. *Always* hungry...
Pea seedlings tucked along the fence. Not the ideal soil, spacing, or location but makes more space on the windowsill. Now, which will win, feral strawberry or pea?!
The grace with which cherry blossom falls - more seduced by gravity than hauled!
Canada geese & mallards puttering along the river. Their serenity is glorious - no blown out brolly worries for them!
Big hugs to all who need them, all courage and strength to face the challenges ahead & hurrah for love!0 -
Been awol for a few days, trying to catch up with day to day stuff but it seems the more I do the more I have to do
Welcome Susan
Congratulations M&M :T such happy news!
Broomstick would it be a train of bridesmaids?
Vicky you brought back wonderful memories of living on the IoW. Our Aunt served delicious moist plum cake with strong Cheddar, a tradition we still follow today.
1. This is a special request for the more knowledgeable among us as I don't know how to do links, so could someone please...(&?) Thank youFlicking through the programmes last night trying to find something which didn't scream election at me, I found a wonderful programme on BBC4 called Dawn Chorus: The Sounds of Spring, no voice over or music, just bird song. If some kind person will put the link on please I'll listen again as soon as the E word is mentioned. I've cast my vote so no interest in what [STRIKE]lies[/STRIKE] promises they have to tell now. I do hope you enjoy it as much as I did. And Finegan of course, he wandered around the television back and front, occasionally stopping to reach up and pat the screen, for the whole hour. Funny mog
2. I treated myself to a box of Mr S's magnum lookalikes, well two boxes as they were bogof. Limiting myself to one a day, I look forward to my after lunch treat
3. Like others I watched The C Word. I empathise with mhags, I have two friends experiencing their recalls right now. Thought it was very well acted, if a bit too close to home for some of us.
4. Went to see Cinderella on Saturday afternoon followed by a trip to Mackie D's. We all enjoyed the film, the children enjoyed the burgers.
5. My new hose reel arrived this morning. I'm so looking forward to using it, my present one soaks my trousers and shoes every time I use it which has been quite a lot recently. But I'd just finished digging out the old bulbs and plants from my one bed and planted rockery plants in their place last night, watered everything in sight then down came the rain in torrents so I was even more soaked!
6. Two talks given this week at church halls, as always a good response from clients and a good feeling that they were responsive on the whole
7. Swimming, 3 lengths
8. I've been invited back to pulm rehab this coming Thursday for tests. Hoping they'll be pleased with what I've done so far with a sensible diet and weight loss, exercise and a lot of positive thinking, I feel 80% fitter than I did two years ago.
Have a good rest of the day0 -

Jenny, who's check up is due next week, send :heartpuls to all
5 Did Stratford vs Larkhall yesterday. Nearly detoured through close Sparralands to get there. Gormless sheople wanting some bard called Bacon thingy! Argggggh. Onwards.
4 Short week, short thrift. So I Fogets BoPsie gel of the shower. Oops. Well she does Duck Farm on Sunday and I does the shopping. Oh well, there is the carbolic somewhere abouts.
