    Congratulations PK :)

1 - 5 after spending rather too much time in garden centres over the past few days I spent today in the garden finding places and spaces for the new plantings. The dog and mog laying in the sun, the birds chattering and flitting from branch to branch, and me taking time to reflect on mhags post. Asked my God to give her and the family the strength they need to face whatever misfortunes they may have to.

    Sleep tight :)

    Well done, PK!

    Hello again, Broomstick.

    Pleasures for today:

    1) Not a bad sleep and a lie in as no school runs.

    2) Lovely weather once again.

    3) Off to the dentist and no treatment needed!

    4) Took sons out for breakfast afterwards (the usual dentist bribery).

    5) Long road trip to 2 different high school in 2 different towns and then to work (the other way!) was OK.

    6) OK day at work.

    7) Made HM chicken nuggets and potato wedges for tea, with baked beans.

    8) Enjoyed watching the Island with bigger son.

Oh Mhags, may you all have comfort and strength. Thinking of you.
    Thank you, Sparrer - echoed.

Frith - shabash for hanging in there, especially despite finances! Attagirl sis on anniversary, & canny first time out without.
kittikins - glad you had fun at the Ashmo & hugely releived you weren't unduly disturbed by the Randolph overcooking... As for why so little ex Indus, suggest Pitt Rivers [or other competing museum] got there first? (Heroic maniac, that man!)
VickyA - cherry trees are amazing things & there are hundreds of varieties - I enjoy them wherever & whenever!
judi - singing is a much underestimated pleasure, be it solo or in company. (Swann & Flanders & bath do come to mind!)
mhags - amidst all the current things, has middlechild checked cancellation possibilities for Europe trip? Make time to cuddle pup & use wheelbarrow amidst all other demands on you? Engulfing hugs & sweaters surround you...
sparrer - vicariously So Proud of you swimming! Awed at raspberry sorbet too... That you convert £200 of health spa into a few treats, some shopping & nice tins for the cat rescue - may you win Lots!
freyasmum - Lucky Nephews - a tree swing is great fun & a tree-climbing Aunt is Awesome!
ampersand - hurrah nest still in use! All due care with mowers - "angina flymo" is as much part of the NHS calendar as bonfire night. This may be an OS pleasures thread, but if you can't bring the lamentation here too? We goofed somehow.
VJSmum - My dear Bessie? Almost inspires one to find pen & paper & envelope, just so history can find you someday! Is it wrong to hope those amazing names 'fit' & are admitted?
topsyturphy - "helping avoid meltdown" - bless you - so blinking scary for child & all around. Well done planning *now*, painful though it be.
purple kitten - **Hurrah** for job!

    A few OS pleasures recently:
Small boy car-spotting: "Mini!" - how not to smile at the uninhibited delight?

Let one small car in and another tucks in cheekily. I was minded to harrumph a bit, then realised I am not in the usual waggon but a Ka, and thus presumed to be of the Small Car Fraternity... Intriguing.

Scout Jamboree briefing questions included "when you're in Tokyo, will you meet Godzilla?"...

The pink cherry blossom is beginning to open - the white's great bubbles are popping, so to see the pink inflate...

There's a car alarm going off but it sounds so like a small territorial finch I'm inclined to grin than grouse. I do wonder what other birds think of it!

The present car has no radio, so while I miss my current affairs fix, I sing. My memory for primary school hymns, Tom Lehrer, Bach & sundry jazz standards amuses & disconcerts me.

I quite enjoy the single-sentence-each conversations in the roadworks-triggered frustrated immobility.

Listening to Himself confronted with an e-card for the first time. "That was a bit surreal" - for him: me, I was snorfling with laughter.

Paused overlooking Saddleworth Moor (highest motorway in England) for a pic-nibble. (We had a hearty breakfast - this is to keep teenagers stoked so they don't empty Nan's fridge.) A slice of pie & a bottle of water is a good thing!

Where to plant a Jostaberry? Full size it may be 6' square! However, it's an intriguing mix of gooseberry & redcurrant &/or blackberry so I have hopes for interesting jams in years to come.

Delicate curve of moon on the horizon, curved like a cradled sleeping child.

Ah, corned beef hash. One of the high speed suppers of the gods...

Unexpected morning hug - not at all the looked for response from young teen hauled early out of bed to see the doctor. (Breakfast & packed lunch may have helped!) [All doing nicely]

"A watched printer never boils" - thus I coaxed a colleague out of trying to outstare a box... That I have over 3 decades of experience helps, some days.

Big hugs to all who need them, parasols cooperative hoses & handy extra layers likewise & Raffles, stick at it - this yellow stuff is wonderful!

Thank you all for your kindness ,lovely people.

My lovely husband has been re diagnosed with cancer , we discovered what we suspected was a tumour on the early hours of Tuesday morning, we thankfully managed to get an appointment at hospital on Tuesday afternoon , the consultant 99.9% confirmed our fears and biopsy results this afternoon confirmed really what we already knew.

I've just emailed family and friends so couldn't post here until I'd done that, and couldn't do that until it was confirmed.

A whole load of scans to be done by start of next week and then decision making meeting on Wednesday but more major, major surgery will be required.

So here we go again, we are all gutted, we know what the implications may be but we also know the long journey that lies ahead and the steps forward and backward we will face.

Having to tell my children again was horrific. DD1 shouting and swearing, DD2 having a full blown panic attack and DS being so, so quiet. Truly awful.

I am grateful that we have been seen so quickly , so efficiently , so kindly.
I am grateful for the normality of work, the routine.
I am grateful for having a dog to sob on to .
I am grateful that I came on here and left a fairly cryptic message and was shown so much support . thank you each and everyone of you.

Oh Mhags, I was afraid it would be so.......

I am so so sorry that you have to go through this again.

Knowing the cunning nature of this vile disease I think that some of us may have suspected, mhags. There are no suitable words to comfort, DFV used the only words there may be when she said 'Engulfing hugs & sweaters surround you'. We will all be your sweaters...
God bless you all, give you the courage to face this thing head on as you have done once, and as the close, loving family you are. x

    ...and again mhags.

Do I write this? As per y'day mention, pulled in by HT on way out for a moment, but across road, saw elderly chap slump sideways on bus stop bench, arm dangling. Rushed over. 1st checks done. Ambulance called. Sent passing person into adjacent vicarage. Rev. fortunately in.

All the necessaries for such events began. & back hrs later.

mhags - how close we all feel to you right now. Not meant impertinently or intrusively. Life is dear.

I am also relieved your dd2 is in the right school now. We have a 13yr old going through this with a young Mum, liver C. back. School comes to her, with Mum - as and when she wants. No attendance necessary unless/until.

    B*st*rd disease is right, vjm.
