Good times but internet access from hospital
Belated happy birthday DundeeDoll!
OS pleasures recently
The absolute kindness & professionalism of our NHS - who are caring for my son brilliantly.
Monmouth County Show was just so much fun! Watching under 10s parade sheep & cattle for judging, in white stockmen's coats, some of which fitted, was brilliant. The scurrying pony driving, the amazing smells & flavours of various food stalls & Himself's expression when he realised I *meant* it about Christmas shopping....
Delight as a friend of ours got a rosette for "waggiest tail"!
Crooning over pigs with like-minded womenfolk - I was sorely tempted to commission a T shirt "I'd rather be raising pigs..."
Picnics taste so much better on the hills.
Lit a candle at Hereford Cathedral for all MSE folk - if you think it will help you, it's shining for you.
Back in realtime soon but big hugs to all who need them, candles at cathedral likewise & see you soon0 -

:rotfl: DH told his friends that there was no ice in the house for his challenge because I'd used it all in my gin & tonic! Cheeky thing.I'm liking the thinking about the champagne bucket, but I suspect that I'll be using my washing up bowl filled with cold water.

Barking!
Ok so houses cannot jump. And Sparra, she is too understanding. Nows I has bin to Henley as well, a rugby match two year back. Nice club house. DfV Keep the oil. Emergency :heartpuls in there as well
5 Alive. No I missed out on my five a day yesterday, as well as been completely oat less. Now as I missed out yesterday on my Thursday Bee Sting, I think it is time to partake of Fryday Specials. And as I have not courted a crab recently, here we go for a plaice in the queue! Oh bummer, actually ended up with a curry anyhow!
4 Again, there has bin talk round the parish about understanding of the posts, by BoP. Come along now, move along the bus. Are you supposed to gain greater knowledge of things through the looking glass? As I am an old salt and wise sheepdog. Now about the looking glass, have you seen it this moaning. There is someone very special in the looking glass!
3 Tonight I shall be tossing, a lot. A whole lot of pancakes. These will be freshly maid, with 1 medium, non hen pecked egg. 3 oz flour and 5 fl oz of Milk, skimmed for the abuse of. Now get your pans hot to blue haze, them ladle in the batter mix. When done on one side, a flick of the wrist and a twist. BoP’s your uncle and there is done. Please be careful as tossing off like this could cause a sticky mess to become apparent at the back of the stove.
2 Wobbled, and wobbleaded last evening. Nothing special on film box. Bit disturbed that adverts of evil games seem to creep into the football. That was one reason I rid the tv lie sense last time. Think BoPsie is egging up for another Scrabble event. This will be live, starting at 7:45 on the dot, and unlike some repeat celebrity cooking tart programme available on other mediums, will be reactive to the nuances of the evening. Wobbleades, subject to inability, will be purchased prior to the event. Please remember that BoPsie remains one win away from the chance of two on the bounce. KK please remember BoP rules, now in a separate issue, Games Winning by BoP. Chapter 2, section 17. Subsection v. Rules are always plaiced under the bored.
1 Dogs lie low.
Sparra, easy dear, you’re not meant to understand the ranting of BoP!0 -
I'll update yesterday's pleasures quickly! It was a difficult day in places. :-/
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Played in my first folk music session - on the concertina!
3) Went into town so my mum could choose a hat for a wedding (from the charity shops).
4) Cleaned the living room.
5) Enjoyed watching Who Do You Think You Are? and DIY SOS.
The difficulties were in my mother being very... difficult. I am stumped as to know what to do but dad and brother are finding it increasingly difficult to cope with her behaviour. Yesterday she was OK for a while (say, 15-20 minutes at a time) but then would have a rant about something that might upset me. So I had to listen to 10 minutes about how smaller son will turn into a man as bad as his father (I hardly think so!) then later how a particular area was "run down by the rubbish houses for single parents - look, look at the sort of people walking around" (the people looked fine to me!)
We had 5 minutes on a lady showing a (tiny) bit of cleavage, various tirades about my dad and most other people she knows.
I always pretend to be concentrating hard on what I am doing (which was driving, mostly) and never bother to reply.
Back at her house, she was off again, refusing to let dad watch what he wanted on TV then, when he gave up and walked out of the living room, putting his programme back on and being cross with him for walking out! Dad said there was plenty of hot water for a bath (from the solar panel) so she ran out and turned the central heating on. :-S
I can't believe I am writing this but I then made a joke about the 3 "hooray Henries" on the programme and she accused me of hating men and said she thinks I am attracted to women. I never respond but I actually asked her to repeat what she has said in case I had got it wrong! At that point I decided to sit in the garden for a while and look at the stars but she followed me out there and was just talking absolute nonsense so I drove home.
It is getting quite ridiculous. I wouldn't be concerned were dad and brother not subjected to this spiteful drivel every day.0 -
Oh frith that sounds awful. Hope things improve
You're wrong bop bill's my uncle, bob must be somebody else's
1) friend's retirement lunch. Yummy fisher donaldson mini eclairs :ap
2) happy faces all round (pleased for him, not that he's going)
3) nice supper and watched new tricks
4) email from noce lady i met in antigua. I might be going to visit her in brussels :-)
5) now in bed. I am zonked!MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Well it's Saturday morning and the birds are singing and chattering outside, we are forecast a nice day again then back to cold from Monday.
Well my number one pleasure yesterday was going to see Queen with Adam Lambert last night. It was fabulous and I sat enthralled by the whole performances . We were in the cheap seats but still had an okay view. They played for 2.5 hours and was just amazing!
Work was work but I finished at 1.30pm and came home and sat on outside sofa and started a new library book.
The joy of having a 6 foot tall son meant he kindly helps me change my quilt cover! And pull out my heavy bed so I could give it a Hoover underneath! ( yikes!)
The train going into the city on a Friday evening has a much better atmosphere than the usual one I come home on! an air of excitement and happiness ....the opposite direction is quiet and tired .
Went for a nice pre show dinner in the city. I had chicken and chickpea curry ( plus a few of OHs chips! ) then we enjoyed the walk out to the concert venue.
Today I need to work in kitchen for 3 hours , those will be the busiest 3 hours! ( I hate cooking breakfasts...I will try and find a pleasure in it!) and finally one tiny day off tomorrow. We need a cook!0 -
Putah poop ongoing, all gone again this arvo, more phoning; gas man bin/gorn; now car:mad: = that sort of week.
1. Steering stiff, car gutless, various fairy lights on dash, turned back, MADE IT BACKphew.....read,read,read. Haynes, owner's guide. Buy coolant, transmission juice demain. Fingers crossed.
2. Cabin fever raging. Oh well - 5?, je pense, nsds on trot. 4 npds+1<3km pd.

Will not have that piercing extra twist of the soul for many here I suppose, but my oh my....what words, what power. And I laughed aloud several times. Brilliance.
4....which delayed The Cutting Of The Grass, neighbour's aussi, as always.
Noted en route - at least a dozen strawberry flowers. Crazy. Robin, blackbird, others sans doute, approve of raspberries - little pecks here and there.
5. ...but still another 600gms>freezer.
The world is feeling differently, nastily out of kilter atm, reminding me of 1962. Bay of Pigs, Cuban missile crisis - we were actually sent home from school. Not a true parallel remotely, but that feeling is with me again. This nation, other nations, other mindsets, intractable and in slides the other unease of the dis-ease of press prurience, masking real crimes of disengagement for which no excuse passes muster and every attempt to make it do so adds filth upon filth at EVERY level, here and far.
Worst of all, extremism festers at times like these, with tabloids feeding and feeding on, ebola-like, a blob-mind readership.
dfv - had no idea you had lad in hospital. I recall some mention of a stay late-summerish. Thought it was for you. Yes, I love local A&P shows, for all the same reasons. Annual Spring show,Tomoana Showgrounds, Hastings, NZ.

frith - you are an intelligent woman I'm sure you have researched a bit and have your own suspicious regarding Mum's erratic outbursts and their seeming progression. It's tough for you all - her included, which she'll be more than aware of at times. Skilled med.appointment necessary, but how you'll manage that will need all your skills. McCulloch will have you up for one of her local folk nights before you know it.....and DD could join in.:D

Frith - huge hugs to you. What an awful situation for you all to be in. Take heart in the fact that your sons are fabulous and you're a caring person who only wants the best for everyone.
I have some pleasures for today:
1) Thank crunchie it's Friday! Got back from work and had a lovely cuppa.
2) Huge hug from one of my new charges. Means a lot that after just two days back in school, I'm the best thing since sliced bread!
3) Our garden is looking lovely. It may be small, but the flowers are gorgeous!
4) Had a lovely bath. Haven't had the time for one for a couple of months (I've showered instead, don't worry!) So great to have a relax...

(((Frith))) I'm so sorry you had such a horrid time. Congrats on your accordion playing though, what a marvellous skill. My late Uncle (not Bob) played a huge thing and made beautiful music with it.
BoP Bob is my cousin, son of the above accordion player. I'm beginning to understand after years of practice
DD send them down, she'll have them clipped in no time. Better still bring them when you're not so busy exploring the world!
DFV thank you for lighting the candle, what a very kind thought and much appreciated
VJsmum the lasagne sounds yummy, and much healthier than pasta
Mhags a friend has just mailed me pictures of the show (just to make me jealous), amazing you were both there!
1. Economical run to Henley and back, no hold-ups and less than half a tank of petrol. I don't care any more if I drive people crazy by sticking to the speed limit, they're in their big fancy company cars and don't have to think about the cost of fuel. They'll drive differently when they're retired
2. DB and I went to lunch at a country pub where we used to go with DM, was poignant when the landlady asked after DM but she kindly took our drinks off the bill.
3. Brought back more boxes, some bits for a neighbour's DD and her new flat, and DNeighbour t'other side had some odds and ends and gave me a generous donation for the British Legion. I have enough left over for about 3 car boot sales!
4. Washing is in the machine set to come on at 6am so I can hang it out when I get up, a loaf is in the bm to do the same. Looking forward to fresh bread and marmalade for breakfast
5. More than ready for bed, an early night by my standards, with a cuppa and a good book. Bliss

Ampersand - I shall say no more about it now (it's a miserable topic!) but this behaviour is not a recent thing. She has always been incredibly unpredictable (which was rubbish growing up and she suddenly decided she was/wasn't going to do something vital or threw your clothes away or hid your shoes so you couldn't go out) and my money is on a personality disorder. She will never be diagnosed, as she neither believes in mental illness/disorders nor in telling the truth to medical professionals.
Anyway!
Pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) 4 lovely hours on the allotment. I hadn't been for over a week and dug up the remaining potatoes (got enough for a few weeks) and harvested the onions (only 50 left) and they are drying in the greenhouse. Also had a couple of courgettes and some tomatoes and runner beans.
Also had a good weed round the place and dug over the now empty potato and onions beds. The pumpkins are very good and there are 2 that are bigger than footballs so we shall be OK by Halloween.
3) Had a panini and a cup of tea in Sainsburys.
4) Did the charity shops! Silk top for me and new jeans (mine have run to holes). Also, amazingly, a blazer with bigger son's school badge (although I was not in the town where his school is, if that makes sense). £4 instead of £30+!
5) The man at the independent little computer game shop cleaned smaller son's disk he bought last week (for the Wii) so hopefully it will work now.
6) Back to Sainsburys for proper shopping and saw smaller son's primary school teacher from his last year.
7) Got home and the county council had written to say bigger son's bus pass is going to be subsidised! So only £440 this year rather than the £700 of previous years. All this because we live 6 miles and 100 metres away from our nearest high school, rather than within 6 miles.
8) Mussels for tea.
9) Blackleaded the stove. Nasty job but looks better now.
10) Really enjoyed watching the Last Leg. I think it is my new favourite programme.
11) Have been playing the concertina a bit.
12) Sons OK. They are in ice cream town, VJsmum.0
