5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2
Comments
-
It's Tuesday morning here almost 7.30am and just getting light. The street sweeper has just went past so hoping that the cars who always park outside our house ( to save a car parking fine) and walk to the train station, were not in the way as our leaves, eucalyptus bark don't get cleared if they are in the way!
Anyway, Monday was a public holiday here to celebrate the Queens birthday. I was at work and we were so busy as we always are on a public holiday. But it was busy in a good way and not a crazy way so that was a pleasure.
Still being in bed when I would normally be at work was a pleasure and a very quiet road to drive along too. Back to public transport today though!
Went out with OH when I got home, went to our usual cafe and shared some potato wedges.
Had a bath! And it hadn't been raining....the decadence!
The indulgence of jelly babies! Aldi have UK products on sale this week so bought a box ( A BOX!) and guzzled them down! Did not share any!
Right I'd better get this day started. Sleep well:)0 -
No Internet. Plusnet on the case. Am writing on my phone, top of the house, v intermittent reception!
In brief - sons ok, house tidy, tied rose and clematis back to fence.
Got to get up at 5.30 tomorrow morning to go to hospital for smaller son's operation.0 -
frith I hope all goes well for your boy and his op. I know it won't be an easy day for him and you but will be thinking of you0
-
You won't see this, but thinking of you Frith, and wishing you and SS all the best.
All more than OK here, but will not post until things totally confirmed.
Had a pretty good weekend, best news was today.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
I'm up at silly clocks again too. Lay there for a while and now see it's been raining. I share the disbelief and sorrow for Rik Mayall, whose accident comes to mind...
1. Lush green fresh smell of half-light overgrown garden and damp air is delicious.
2. Just found radio control, so have switched back to r4x, away from World Service reports on rape as weapon of current wars. Feel strong accord with you, pk, in your no.7.
3. I am equally aware that for all my usual biz re: my sacred hexagone - France, ma belle - and my little 2-island country, from which so recently returned[was starting my last day there this time last week], I am grateful for &squat as base, bolt-hole and springboard to all of our beautiful planet, wreck it with fracking and mucking and greed and 700 mountain-flattening [http://guardianlv.com/2014/06/china-flattening-700-mountains/] though we do. To which, I'll now add own whinge re: gate padlock which refused to unlock for me yesterday evening, meaning I had to go round, down through cut-off lane, walk back through wheat paddock, come through my back gate under the elderberry tree, jungle-tramp through to back-door, set up ladder to receive 2 large bags which ex-jockey-sized neighbour managed to hand up and over to me....after a day of frustration re:Bank and the missing £500. This is OS Pleasures; rants DO sometimes qualify, but cba on this one, having used it up on gate lock that won't un-. I'm aware I'll have to go out and round again with screwdrivers etc shortly, to unpick everything in order to go out, resume what yesterday's entire day of faffing still couldn't sort out. This is when I just think of popping in car and brrrrm......and then I am ashamed because bus pass meant free travel, hence an npd/nsd and leisurely looking out at green and bloom everywhere.
4. Good Larkin reading of Whitsun Weddings. &brain was keyed to do so and for no particular reason looked to see whether Thriftlady, who began this current Thread still pops in...not since last July I see, but she has a blog which is lush and soothing:
http://thequincetree65.blogspot.co.uk/ and also had the same Larkin thoughts[as I suppose many do]. Shades of you, dfv with elderflower cordial ready for 3 sons to down when in from school. Must make more myself. Didn't think I'd be back in time, so a fine-shaped flowering tree as I came through gate for 1st time since April was a bonus.
5. New Library books - comforts, as Natwest, N&P and Library are close together. but had no time for w8rs freebie.
6. Thinking of this time last week, waking comfily in dear little car somewhere outside Pukekohe, having taken night light distant pics earlier from the heights of our very own enzed Bombay, heading up to Mangere for flight back@23h that night, but in the meantime, whole day with oldest schoolfriend, circa 1955 awaits. First, had to find lovely[local Napier firm made good, now International] Conroys Auckland airport outpost, to offload and finesse my suitcase and weigh everything. That was from 06h onwards. Thus did we find that I had another 2 boxes to add to the hometown 4 to ultimately land here, sometime before crimbo selling season. Lots of Harris Tweed and enzed olive oil and goodness knows what heavy else will fetch up eventually. Was away from there after huge kindness and shower etc. in time to be taxi for dear, dear D to wimmins' refuge appt and so our day sped by, ending - as already garbled earlier - up on Takapuna Beach, where, by flukey chance, we met a lady who was a costumier for lots of Peter Jackson tolkien-ia and All Blacks outfitter[she had her portfolio and LOADS of press pics in her bmw to show us]. Tough life, another survivor and I am just so glad I asked if she'd take pics of D and I at beach, with Rangitoto Island in b/g on a stunning, sunny day. I'm hoping she can help D too....we shared the champagne. Fantastic departure felt already like the beginning of next return, esp. as & still has a $50NZ note to start over with.
7. Loved Peter Pan and Railway Children on r4x early y'day and and grateful for auntie beeb's quality, despite all. kk - guessed that Theatre Shoes must be Noel Streatfeild[yes, I do always remember her surname spelling] and will look it out. These, too, dramatised wonderfully. Have just found her in the DID archive:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00s3rqr/products
I've been dithering about here for nearly 2 hrs now, so off I go, esp. as 1st thought was to wish Frith and smaller son safe throughout today and bigger son in good form meantime until Family Frith is as one again.
ss1000 - oh good, another tennis phan.
broomstick? - the new FTM Exhibition, to which I have raffle prize entry remember! - is waiting for you to join me. Can you spare some time for a London day from new home yet? I like all the extras, but am looking at 27 June's.

Only 12 episodes made of the young ones, but seemed like it was around for ages. Sad to hear news re Rik Mayall. Makes you think.
Yes ampersand we are definite phanns here. DD is really interested this year - I remember being an enthused teenager too - probably as much to do with the players as the skills. We will be spending a few hours in front of the box together soon. Loved your descriptive post, transported me away from thoughts of the housework for a while. Going to have a productive day to day.

Well, I just caught up a few more pages; will resume@678.
Frith's Barry is back, much enjoyed 27008 - as did many - have the cricket ref., bop, strongly feel for Charlie, R.I.P.
vjm - wonderful Rijksmusem pic and hinterland story is remarkable, fabulous. You must take your children to know this.
ss1000 - wimbo season and all tennis for me goes back to scratchily hearing on The Overseas Service new wunderkind[no such phrase then current, of course]John Newcombe first playing for Strylia in Davis Cup.

Passed my old tennis club as I left, where we heard of Kennedy's assassination and were sent home.

and have just relished these:[esp. in view of hearing Mary Pierce, another opinion divider, as latest roped-in beeb commentator. Passed muster, methought.]

Inadvertently flipped to r3 some hrs back and have enjoyed it since, notwithstanding tears from some music....right now Arturo Marquez, danzon no.2 for Orchestra, which is very Montalbano-sounding, so loving this one.
Just looked him up, nearly as old as me....Mexican, interesting. Wonder if his music will feather the current FTM Exhbn?CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

ampersand it is so lovely to have you back and posting your meanderings! I do love your posts!
Well dark o'clock but an amazing sunset viewed from the train on way home.
Incredibly busy day at work. There are some changes ahead which I am trying to subtly implement.we are such a small team and change is not welcomed! So I've spent the day saying gently why don't we just try this? Why don't we just give that a go? I am determined theses changes will happen!!
Home with bread, bread and oh some more bread and some gluten free cakes. Bread will go in freezer. Cakes will go in tummy!
It was so blooming chilly this morning, a really raw and damp cold but brightened into a pleasant enough day.
I watched casualty this morning. I've not seen it in weeks so a bit out the loop with story line but nice to watch and I do love the theme tune!
Right , I'm going to Hoover my bedroom! Have a lovely day0 -
