Just had a stressed Sis on the phone trying to de-stress. Her car is a 2002 'Chelsea Taxi' type vehicle, worth £1025. She is insured with Direct L!ne who wanted to take £430 off her this year for fully comp & umpteen years NCB.
I searched and got the same terms for £260 with Ax@.
In the event, she rang Direct L!ne back to see what they would do and the quote went down to £346. She decided to go with that, as it needed doing by tomorrow, but hopefully next year I can get her more organised.

She was very shaky and stressed though, and talking through, we decided it was probably harking back to a former job that she left some 15 years ago.

She had to arrange insurances that HAD to be absolutely correct to the tiniest detail and watertight.
So even though it wasn't her job, she was getting all stressy over things being exactly correct with this car insurance renewal.
The fact that she rents out a flat for example (even though it's been empty for a year) made her think she would invalidate her insurance if she didn't say the car might be used for business use.
Oh well, my help still saved her £80 anyway. My good deed for the day.

    1) Nice long lie-in this morning.

    2) I need a new chest of drawers for the bedroom, as my current one is literally on the verge of collapse, and I found one for under £30 which will tide me over until I win one of several competitions I have entered for vouchers from furniture companies and can buy a decent one. ;)

    3) Spent some time catching up on more competitions.

    4) Half an avocado as a pre-dinner snack, with mayo and a pinch of sea salt. Usually I'm a useless judge of avocados - I tend to cut them when they're either under-ripe and crunchy, or over-ripe and starting to go rotten - but for once this one was spot-on, and delicious.

    5) Planning a lazy evening of football, a glass or two of wine, and then an early night. Not exciting, but very pleasant!
Back after a very long break!
  • Ok, I'm stroppy and stressed and I will find pleasures.

Turns out that Sis did need to declare business use for the car, but even so I am NOT impressed with Direct Line.
A lot of her details had been incorrectly recorded (passed test 3 yrs ago, not 40) , still working (not retired 3 yrs ago) and this had all pushed up the premium.
I suspect they did this deliberately. I definitely won't be using them in the future, given her experiences.

Why stressed, lfs? If I change your no. 5 to 'Un petit coup de vin....and optional choc?'
    does that feel better?

mcc - I had an obscene, trebled+ Direct Line renewal quote a few years ago. Dumped them, came to mse and paid £300+ less than they demanded. What I particularly recall is the complete disinterest of rude youth on phone, when I rang to query.

    1. Just in from music venue and NZer was there, having made his way up from London, after Norway, before Frankfurt and rtn to NZ 3 days ahead of me. His music is exceptional, singular, wonderful. Thought of you, mcc. Also met his old Uni friend, London solicitor, who drove up - in support - and is taking him back as we speak.

    2. It's bitterly cold, so hwb is deffo.about to be this week's continuing repeat pleasure.
Meteo says 6C last night, 4C tonight....

    3. Mowed grass again this arvo, after Family Service. Neighbour walking by loved the smell. I said how quickly it's grown back this week, daisy-rampant. She shared her grandma's saying, new to me: 'It's not truly Spring until you can stand on 9 daisies'. We did a count - left foot 17, right foot 19 - beneath my size 5s.

    4. A fine strong reader this morning - R, aged 9. Told him so. Afterwards, we discussed how it feels to stand up and read before a gathering. He likes it - 'a lot. I didn't know if I would, but I did and I want to do it again.':-)

    5. More interesting talk, this time with J, 1 of 2 sons of our other lady priest-in-training. Fabulous family and both boys are right into rugby, as they were in Cornwall. We discussed tactics, whither albion vs ABs come June, his match tomorrow, Carlin Isles Captain Fantastic at the recent 7s Champs:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/27026694

I will send sth<NZ if the right oval-related thing jumps out at me. And 'Is that a war wound, field of play?' [decent bruise and graze down left cheekbone noted]. Proud 'Yes.'
'What happened?'. 'Well, it was my friend. He threw a stone.' 'Is that really field of play...' 'That's what I said, but his team was losing and I jumped higher than him and I got the ball and he was ON the pitch when he threw it....I don't think he meant it to hit me. We got 3 more points.'

Numberless. This date+&, nearly done - and now it's 10 morning clocks-ish of Aunt's b'day 82 in NZ. Will ring in a mo.

sparrer - I covet your no.4, sight unseen.
dfv - did some almost instinctive reach for phone[and of course we haven't a clue of each other's no.]when this came on today:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b040h6xq
'Adventuring comedian Tim FitzHigham recreates a 'gamble Anglaise' from 1811, attempting to get a cheeseboard to travel a distance of four and a half miles in under 100 throws.
Challenge number one? Getting permission to have the A151 closed down for the purposes of cheeseboard tossing.'

Entirely splendid. Consider yourself phoned by & and told to listen:-)[except you won't need telling]
Wondering if vjm still has m-i-l on board....
ss1000 - you've done darned well, despite back pain. Award yourself the rest of the choccie, half-passed to lfs already, as I still can't have mine until Sunday.

dd- your new speccies sound SO Dame Edna, mit gladdies. I was thinking your £50 had just about done its time, as I reverbe'd a filthy old £coin while edging neighbour's footpath grass edge today. I don't usually do this fiddly extra. Maybe I will from now on:-).
    Looks as if I forgot a pleasure.......whoops!
