BoP - delighted to see you spoiling herself in style! Wobbelades galore & where is Raffles? Should he not be attacking cakes, distracting the opposition & clambering over you both until you submit completely?
Frith - "intending not to sleep" - eek. So sorry to read elder son also having spasms of teen. Shaun of the Dead superb. (Happy possessor of all of the Cornetto trilogy, if not entire opus. Sudden urge to rewatch but presently at desk.)
ampersand - dear lord, love, this is the wrong way to celebrate Easter. Just take it very gently, abiding by doctors orders for a while, please? NZ awaits you & we don't want to loose or even temporarily mislay you! Delighted your medic had it as a pet research field & of course put you before the first brew of the day.
sparrer - mealworms! In the same post as glam black & slinky - there are days I need to re-read, carefully, over a second brew! Glad your tasks were taken from you as you sneezed!
mcculloch - thankyou for the additional detail. Since you can't tell, I shall carry right on enjoying my fish but brief the chaps that if I turn scarlet along with racing heart to call the ambulance forthwith. (Hm. Fish had better be an After Gardening meal.)
mhagster - gardening in jimjams sounds fun, but finding the pumpkins already eaten not so much. "Afternoon tea Easter style" sounds delicious - have a very happy holiday! (Any chance of seeing our young royals a-roaming?!)

    OS Pleasures
Coping on slightly less sleep as stayed awake to enjoy Ian Hislop's Olden Days. (He's my Desert Island Luxury Item - but I should have remembered iplayer & deferred gratification!)

Looking forward to a quiet day largely taking messages in the office. (Which will probably *invite* a fire drill.)

Flower beds by church full of bright cheerful things that aren't marigolds. Additional pleasure guessing with google to come!

Splendid burned patches in back garden where husband has sought to avoid weeding with fire. Very happy husband & son who plans to grow AngloSaxon foodstuffs. (Still think digging will be required & biting lip on what ash will do to soil pH.)

Colleague's Waitrose card through - wonderful happy smile!

Big hugs to all who need them, prompt action in the event of red colouration & racing hearts, & a restful & reflective Maundy Thursday!

    Thankyou all kindly -

    1. Back from morning brekkie in Vicarage. Would say I'm about 2/3 there. Yes indeed, kk - I do thank God for the NHS, as experienced in this village. Dropping note in later. Were it a paying appt system, I know I would have toughed it out, not just on grounds of economy, but feeling that such expenditure was an indulgence, some indication of weak moral fibre[physical failing wouldn't have come into it].

    2. Well, a strange in and out night, but am up and about. Too much to do. As it's a poisons issue, not bacterial or allergy - remember this toxin is not destroyed by cooking heat[n/a for & this time] - I'm following my instinct and Dr S[as little and often as feels right], so will sit out with tea, maybe book too, shortly. Rape pollen working in &'s system looks likely. Am happy to be monitored for non-tuna research-least I can do.

    3. Tomorrow is 2 births, 2 deaths, blood-close to me. Usually I take off, get well WELL away. This year I will not - reason grows mysteriously, but it comes, Fabian-style.

    4. I am alive.

    5. Vic's husband had left note as he tore out: 'Nugget on drive, couldn't catch her- x'. Out we went. What a naughty girl! Now wise and refusing rattled treats, I'm told. Eventually caught, soothed, smoothed by Vic. But then Vet phoned re: pony's hoof, still bad. As I washed up, saw Orpington Gertie[derived<Burlington Bertie]and Nugget and Paxo were in a covered crop tunnel wreaking havoc. Rushed out...they laughed. Pebble told me off. Snuck out while Vet still explaining complex treatment. Vic has another funeral in a few hours....

    6. The round of Life. Broomstick, everything is sounding so good for you - richly deserved. When oick people/days beset you in future, just knowing you have this new roof to return to is something you feared might never again be, only a short time ago. Love the besom - and yes, it was surely left there for all the best Trad. reasons.

Big hugs to all x Have a lovely easter :)

    1. Sunshine...less than yesterday, but still very nice :)

    2. Went to see a lovely chiropodist who explained a few things to me about what I see as gruesome feet but he sees as 'not bad at all' and 'not surprising given your medical history'. Feel a lot better about the hooves now! (but not rich enough to buy the v. expensive trainers he recommends I use as slippers to eradicate, in time, one of my problems!)

    3. Saw that someone has bought some of my 'wish list' for my birthday coming up soon :) (Probably mummykins, there's only her and brotherkins who know about it, and will buy me a present or mark it in any way!)

    4. Emailed a couple of chums to let them know I'm thinking of them

    5. Am still slogging away at this darned essay.....under 400 words to go, but I feel I've run out of things to say :( But I WILL get it done, possibly tonight, so that I can have some mummy time over the weekend before all the craziness starts up again.

    1. Forgot to mention the enormous moon for the past couple of nights, on Tuesday it was a glorious pink/peach colour, last night it was still peachy and the most enormous moon I can recall - it was stunning. This universe is far more amazing than anything man could make
    2. Went shopping with my neighbour and her DD, went to the garden centre for pot stands and hanging baskets but couldn't justify the price so went to the £1 shop and saved £28. Stupidly picked up a cucumber instead of a courgette so will give it to another neighbour as I don't have a greenhouse
    3. Bought a brand new iron for £4 in a cs as I dropped mine a couple of weeks ago and now it leaks everywhere
    4. Also bought a 20” high bronze hare which is looking at me from across the room. The word hare has a connection to my family name so naturally I'm very fond of them :)
    5. Had a cuppa with neighbour when we got back and one of the delicious chocolate marbled meringues she made last night
    6. Still sniffly so I'm tucked up in bed with a cup of tea and listening to a compilation of Nat King Cole which is perfect for sending me to sleep zzzzzzzzzzz

Wishing all the poorlies to get well now and everyone to have a peaceful, sunny Easter

    Sweet dreams :)

    A collection:

    1. Two nights of great music, one a Candlelite open mic, the other the duo QuickSilver at a local town hall. Grant Baynham used to be on That's Life, doing the weeks' news in song.
He is a wonderful guitarist, and oh joy, he and and the wonderfully voiced Hilary do Jake Thackray covers amongst their repertoire.
Jake was such a one off, so difficult to imitate but it is wonderful to see him not forgotten. There was so much else to enjoy as well - Piaf, Pentangle, Victoria Wood...

    2. Amazon are sending me a Philips Lumea to review. These work. Oh joy! Bye-bye waxing and shaving! I also have a Sarah Beeny DIY book for Dr C and myself to peruse. Yay to freebies!

    3. Good weather. A very stiff breeze made cycling a bit less enjoyable but it was still good to pedal away and get from A-B so much faster than my halting walk.

    4. Dr C. has promised to do some jobs. One of which will be painting my bike ramp. Hooray.

    5. Lovely food to look forward to over the weekend. Including roast turkey. Oooh.
Normally I only have hot cross buns on Good Friday, but looking for a YS treat in Mr T's I came across double -chocolate hot cross buns. So I had a couple and will have a couple more.

DD - good to hear about the tasty lunch and supper.....

Sparrer - that brings to mind a mould I had when I was little to make hares from plaster of Paris. I wonder what happened to that?

    Pleasures for today:

    1) A rubbish sleep thanks to both cats (and smaller son) sleeping in/on my bed. At least the cats are starting to get on a bit better!

    2) Took brother to his physio appointment and we watered everything on the allotment while he was in there.

    3) Picked bigger son's wedding trousers up from the lady who was shortening them for him.

    4) Got smaller son's prescription.

    5) Smaller son found the last Harry Potter book that he was looking for. We also got one of David Walliams' books out of the library for bedtime reading.

    6) Posted friend's birthday present and card.

    7) Had picnic lunch in a park in Worcester then scootered to find a geocache.

    8) Then decided to scooter right to the cinema! We had parked on the outskirts (for those who know Worcester, we parked for free, which tells you how far out we were!) Very helpful staff didn't bat an eyelid at two boys carrying scooters and me carrying bags and a lunchbox. They stored the scooters in their storeroom while we watched the film. (Spiderman 2)

    9) Found another geocache whilst scootering back to the car and one man thought we were 3 teenage boys and said "What are you lads doing?" :-D I don't think there are many teenage boys with this figure (when I stood up to face the chap) or who look 38. :-/ He looked a bit taken aback!

    10) Went swimming with sons and my brother.

    11) Curry for tea then yesterday's rhubarb and peach crumble.

    12) Ironed the shirts and my dress for the wedding. As I iron about once a year, they now look slightly worse. I'm not convinced the iron is making any steam but I can't remember what it normally sounds like!

    13) Enjoyed watching Ripping Yarns as did smaller son who decided to join me rather than go to sleep...

    14) Text from a college friend who is back up this way for the weekend. Too busy to meet her but she has remembered Easter eggs for sons and also picked up a Dr Who duvet cover for them from a charity shop! (I had forgotten about Easter and haven't got anything for her children yet.....)

Another busy day tomorrow not least because smaller son told me nonchalantly an hour or so ago that his UTI is back (3 in just over a month). :-(

Evening all, we are just in from an afternoon of gallivanting .

Woke up at silly o'clock , phoned mum and SIL....as MIL wasn't answering her phone so was just checking that all was okay.

Then went back to bed for a bit and to heat up, it was so chilly. I'm determined that the heating isn't going on yet but the house is much cooler.

Then got up and made breakfast for everyone. I had a hot cross bun.
They all had eggs on toast.

OH and I went out in the pouring rain to a local boathouse cafe , we haven't been before and I don't think we will be back. It was built in 1908 and had lots of original features but felt like it was trying too hard to be old fashioned..if that makes any sense! It felt like ye olde world cafe in a theme park! Anyway, we saw lots of ducks and a Muscovy duck and some moorhens.

Then we headed to the beach....more by default as we couldn't get on the road we needed for the highway and I said let's go to St Kilda! So we drove through there and went as far as Brighton beach and then drove back through Port Melbourne and then onto Williamstown....for an ice cream cone and a wander along the piers. The sun was trying to come out but it was still very chilly and very breezy.

In for the night now , about to get dark. OH found a penny from 1952 when he was digging soil over the potatoes. Having researched it we could buy one on eBay for $3 ....so don't think that's going to make us our fortune!

    Enjoy your Good Friday x

Afternoon all, from a rather fuzzy-headed CCP - with the benefit of hindsight, I should have politely refused the shot of toffee vodka that was slipped in front of me at the end of the pub quiz last night! :o

ampersand - glad you're more-or-less OK after that nasty scare.

DFV - I started watching the GoT series on TV, but gave up because the 5ky player didn't work properly on my computer - a pity, as it was very good, as you say. I was thinking of trying again when someone posted a link to a very good offer on the full set of books for kindle (£7.99 - they're now nearly £40 ) so decided to read them instead of watching them.

    Pleasures for yesterday:

    1) Naughty but very, very nice pineapple fritters for breakfast - they were part of my Chinese takeaway and reheat very nicely the next morning.

    2) My LL's builder was entering the building just as I was leaving for work, so I invited him in for a look at the work that needs doing on my flat. My LL's casual "oh, it will only take an afternoon" turns out to be a serious under-estimate, as I thought - the builder reckons three or four full days is more like it - so I have his card for us to arrange a convenient time when I get back from holiday next week.

    3) Little Olop passed its MOT - it needs some work doing within the next few months but, for now, it's driveable. :)

    4) Crab cakes for dinner - part three of the Chinese takeaway, with another portion in the freezer for another time.

    5) Pub quiz, with five out of five on the mythology round (my specialist subject :D) - we finished third, which got us our entry money back.
Back after a very long break!
