BB- it's chilly! Welcome S.Saver!
Apparently only 1% of recipes in books ever get made, re disposing of cook books.
Well, I've already made 5 of Jack's 100 recipes and do a 6th already and intend making several of Jamie's 120.
Boldened by my success with Eatability (several recipes earmarked) I have found Poor Cook by Shirley Conran. Not for 1p as Eatability was, but gasp, £1.47.
Quiet time, but will try and put together something.
1. A very meaningful pmm on here. My goodness, am I glad I listen to my inner voice when it tells me to do what I hope are 'good' things.
2. The now month- old cut flowers from A!di don't need to go out just yet.
3. Rummy in - hand Champion yet again. He will be at this year's Great Yorkshire Show, I hope.
4. Jack's recipe using fish paste is brilliant. This is the Creamy Salmon Pasta with a Chilli Lemon Kick, we had that yesterday for tea. It was LOVELY. Bit of a relief after the let-down of the Diet Coke Chicken.
Dr C. also liked tonight's ready made pork crumble thingy heavily reduced at Mr T.
Only problem was it was supposed to feed 2, I had a tiny portion, unseen by Dr C, and filled up on rice cakes and a mini Ben and Jerry's The Vermonster (Maple syrup ice cream with candied pecans).
We also had grilled tomatoes and some lovely grilled flat mushrooms, bought by Dr C on a whim and still OK after 2 weeks in the fridge, amazingly.
5. Good chat with sis. Lump in neck is now thought to be infection, praise be and nothing too sinister, but further checks should reassure once and for all. She is a breast cancer survivor.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Morning all, and apologies for the radio silence over the weekend: my internet service was supposed to be moving from one company to another (at their whim, not mine) but all they achieved was to disconnect me entirely. I have a new router coming at some point this week, so hopefully I'll be back soon, and the new company have promised to refund me for all the time I am disconnected from the world, which is something at least.
supersaver - welcome to the thread! :hello:
Kittikins - sorry to hear that you're having such a rough time at the moment. Do you have a university tutor or similar who you can talk things through with? They're still there to support you even when you're on placement, particularly if your placement school isn't proving very helpful.
Some pleasures for the weekend:
1) Lazy Friday evening as I couldn't get on with my essay as planned, as all the information is online and I wasn't.[The next morning I realised that that really was just an excuse - I have a photographic memory so knew exactly what the information was really.
]
2) Popped down to the library on Saturday to print off the essay information (£1 per printed sheet - ouch!), then popped into W8rose and picked up a double-flowered yellow primrose for 40p from the RTC section in their new gardening section.
3) Decided to be brave over the weekend and let Isis out into the wide world for the first time, only for her to decide that she had no intention of going anywhere!
4) The first part of my essay is nearly complete, lacking only a reference that I really must look up in a minute, making use of work's internet connection while I have it!
5) Watched the Muppet film (again) with a glass of wine - it never fails to cheer me up.
Have a good day, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Culturally, we eat off the same plate.
Forgets to post, SS newbie. Yum Missing, not it was hot and just out of oven. You will have to be quick as it shall be finished this evening. And those having probs and colds, :heartpuls :heartpuls :heartpuls :heartpuls :heartpuls :heartpuls KK, Raffles in his actions minded me of some biology and sticking electrodes on … Could do a live experiment on electrolysis!
5 Have to say that the Chocolate Sponge, recipe handed down by generation was tooo good for BoPette. 2oz Butter, (Not that chemical factory mix), 2oz sugar. 4oz self-raising flour. I medium egg. Fresh Ginger, grated, juice of 1 orange and its zest, grated. Cream butter, sugar. Add egg. Mix in flour and cocoa. Add juice and ginger, zest. Put in 1pt pudding basin and steam. Serve with fresh lumpy custard
Steam for about a hour and 30 minutes, prod with skewer to see if done.
4 Add yous lot, no dipping fingers either OK Got that. You know you want to dip fingers, but eggs raw could give you all an upset tummy. So no dippy fingers.
3 Now on the subject of dippy, we did not have Dippy eggs this weekend, as the last egg went into that Chocolate sponge. But BoPsie did buy a fresh box of the only cereal a real ruff cut could have. The Honey Monster cereal pack
2 Nite for tea, we have the other half of that hand rubbed ruff pastry chicken pie. As celebrated by BoPette, For now, it is back to the claw and crunch sandwiches.
1 But we put the fork down in an uneasy manner0 -
Methinks perfect time, before bop returns to coalface, post-sarnie, to re-zap electrodes:

I gather, it could be Chocolate Indulgeance!0 -
Quick pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Sons OK at school.
3) Got to the allotment before 9. Finished the 3 veg beds and put the bark chippings down in the soft fruit patch.
4) Did the amendments for module A of my distance learning course and did a third of module B.
5) Went round the charity shops on the way to school. Got to the last one (not the best usually) and looked at the "little men" rail for bigger son. * And there, in the right size for smaller son was an "as new" Superdry shirt! (They love their SD jackets off Ebay). £3.50 but would have been £45 new.
6) Smaller son's parent evening. :-) He's doing very well and they will get him a scribe or let him use a laptop for the forthcoming SATs. For several years he would not sit any sort of test at all but he is completely unconcerned about these!
7) A variation of a Girl Called Jack's recipe for tea. Pasta with smoked salmon.
8) Been playing Mario Kart on the Wii with smaller son.
9) Looking forward to One Born Every Minute later.
* I told bigger son the other day that his Top Man T shirts from the charity shop were "little man" size. He said "Perhaps the staff think you have a teeny tiny husband" :-D0 -
Sorry there's still no news of chicken thinking of her and wishing her well
1. a long lie-in this morning then a lazy breakfast, friend went to work and I played with the dogs til it was time to leave - 10.30 am to miss the rush hour
2. tootled home via M1, every few miles there were roadworks so didn't make much speed but returned a very satisfactory average of 58.8mpg
3. heating - goodness they're a hardy lot oop norf! First thing I did when I got home was put the heating on high til the house warmed through
4. first load of laundry done, second load in, all on economy wash a la OS, of course
5. opened one of the Mothering Sunday presents DS and family gave me yesterday - a beautiful jar of my favourite lemon cheese. Looking forward to breakfast
A very early night for this weary sparrer, going to snuggle into bed with a hottie and mug of tea. Sweet dreams0 -
1. BoP's recipe, one for the 'recipe book' for when DD and I have our own place again.
2. Master Frith's fabulous parent's evening
3. Sparrer's great weekend
4. CCP reminding me of the wonders of The MuppetsWonder which film DD and I should watch first. I'm a fan of Muppet Treasure Island or the last one with the chap from Third Rock from the Sun in it, but I think she favours the Dickens'-inspired one....
5. My beloved DD hasn't been 'unwell' from either end all day - yay! She has to have another day off school though, which is actually good, as she is still looking rather tired, but it'll give her time to finish her latest Hairy Potter book and have cuddles with her grandaddikins
6. Mummykins appears to be ever so slightly on the mend as well. Hooray for the NHS! I don't know what we would have done without the out of hours service, paramedics and then doctor yesterday xx
7. Without my class teacher around today, as she was out on a course, I taught 3 lessons I was proud of. I can see how I could have made them better, but you know what, they were pretty good in my book! Phonics worked well first thing with the littlies, then Literacy was fab, everyone working hard in groups and thinking hard about finding more sophisticated adjectives and adverbs for their writing plan. Music was........noisy! and the kids cheered when I told them it was time for our lesson! Roll on our performance to the school in Thursday morning's assemblyLove these little blighters, even Mr Grumpy Chops who was tired (again) and cried during nearly every lesson. (Just wish my teacher could see the good things I can do, not just constantly criticise....*sigh* Never mind, 4 more days and then I'll never have to see her again).
8. PPA tomorrow, then forest school on Wednesday morning mean that it's more like 3 days to endure!
9. Amazingly tasty, gooey home-made chocolate tart and clotted cream in the staffroom!! One of the lovely TAs has brought in Sunday lunch's leftover pudding for the second week running. What a star!
10. Great chat with my co-student about our experiences. I doubt we'll be friends for life, but I have appreciated having someone to share the fun with over this placement.
11. Having more than 2 things to be thankful for!!0 -
Evening all. Hope everyone had a bit of sunshine today.
This weekend's combined pleasures, in no particular order:-
1. Went to church yesterday for the first time in a while and enjoyed a gentle sermon.
2. 'Lunch' with DH halfway through yesterday afternoon, as he had been at work. We went to a local cafe.
3. Applied for a new job. Although I am lucky to have my job in the tiny charity i work for, I just liked the look of it.
4. Left over chilli for lunch. My third portion!
5. Chat to Dd about coming home for Easter.0 -
Good evening all :hello:

My pleasures for today:
1) NSD :j
2) Chicken stir fry for supper - quick, easy and fresh!
3) Bought a friend's birthday present, via TopCashBack! All budgeted for too.
4) Trying to work out whether I can justify booking myself on a bread making course.
5) Erm, not sure but I need to make lunch for tomorrow. We'll be having salad... trying to be virtuous!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0
