Hope you're OK, Kittikins, and well done for taking steps to get sorted. Everyone I know who has a PGCE said it was all consuming and my B.Ed friend said she didn't know how people could cram it into 1 year.

Naughty Raffles, I love grass snakes. :-(

    Pleasures for today:

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Sons off to school happily.

    3) Distance learning course has gone a bit pear shaped. We were supposed to scan and email our module A in but their email (at Shrewsbury) wouldn't accept such a large attachment. Then I had feedback that 2 of my answers were wrong. Turns out it was because the work book was out of date! I should have used an amendment sheet. Except they didn't send it.

2 more phone calls to get them to email the amendment sheet. Then remembered that, because I had had to post in my module A answer booklet, I no longer had the questions! So they've given up and are posting me the whole lot back. Trouble is, I really need to get on to module B (deadline in a week or 2) but they took nearly a fortnight to mark module A then a week to sort out this palaver with it. :-( Pleasure is that it is being sorted out - I think.

    4) Left a message about a climbing course for bigger son. If he waits til he's 14 (not long) he gets a certificate that means he can climb there unsupervised after a 6 week course.

    5) Managed to do some crochet!

    6) Bigger son off school this afternoon so we went to get him some trainers then to McD's for lunch (his suggestion).

    7) Bigger son's scan in hospital was clear. And the scan nurse was someone I used to work with and hadn't seen for about 12 years!!

    8) Bigger son's parent evening. All the teachers were really friendly but 3 used the expression "laid back" (smaller son was nodding each time someone new said it!) Not enough concentration, he was even gazing about at his friends who were waiting whilst the teachers were talking to us... An interesting talk with the RE teacher who informed him that he didn't need a religious faith to concentrate in RE as she was teaching the subject without one! Bigger son had made much later appointments for the ex Mr Frith but he decided to come an hour early and wander around and sit not far from us. The geography teacher asked whose parent he was and when he called bigger son forward and just we 3 moved and Mr Frith sat there glaring, he looked most worried. :-S

    9) Pie for tea made from yesterday's beef casserole with a puff pastry top. And roast potatoes and gravy.

ETA - 10) Smaller son and fellow base pupil are going to go canoeing! It's where sons did a few Sundays last year (or the year before!) so he is looking forward to it.

Patchwork - colleagues with plenty of tales sound like good company!
Kittikins - one lousy observation does not a lousy teacher make. Your whole family back you & you have a cuddles-giving daughter - don't beat yourself up! You got through the day - that's a good start & there will be time to talk it over with acting head when she's not acting.
Mcculloch - the Jamie salmon filo sounds amazing & with substitutions brilliantly MS too. Young folk funerals are really ticklish in a not good way. Glad shopping sorted before you'd ridden anywhere! Might Jane not have known Debbie already had a copy? That supercook reputation may have come from a hammered other copy. Enjoy the radio!
Mhagster - turquoise blue feet! Strappy heels and a big smile for the night out - with something in between to prevent being arrested. All the best with the split lavender & with the scary avocado <imagination boggling>
Tealady - frozen grapes sound wonderful - I shall go get grapes! Noodle bar, accounts sorted, cakes sorted, happy grandad & DD - sounds a most productive day!
BoP - where is the other half of the snake?
CCP - hurrah for London (oyster card sorted?!), & well done surviving appraisal preliminaries.
Ampersand - hurrah marmalade money, and the Return of the Bag (& books & pens? Or were cards separate?) With you First Official Day not much to cheer about. Cute google doodle though.
VJsmum - still upright, but not Scouting as two of our leaders have lung conditions already. Not happy, but upright. Blimey, house cleaning on restricted calories?! Eek! (I have decided [pun alert] I have anorexia - every time I look in the mirror I see a fat person.) Still scared of 5:2 though.
VickyA - some days just roll that way & hurrah for a supportive Head - delight with the spreadsheet though!
Frith - good on you getting Distance Learning admin sorted! Climbing course for bigger son? As well as trainers, McD's, scan (all clear, oh thank Heavens) *&* parents evening [some days just pull like trains!] Well done!

    OS Pleasures
First lot of seeds in propagator.

Cherry tree buds looking as plump & promising, almost ready to explode into petal!

Walking in after day off, sneezing & wheezing & wondering if I've goofed. One thing at a time.

"Have I told you lately" on the radio - love that song!

Parents evening - & I'm twithering! [Youngest has done very well, but oh waiting to see teachers...]

Big hugs to those who need them, plan a weekend in bed if you're not well? & enjoy the gentle nudging of Spring.
  • BoP - the naughty song in question is kiss kiss by Jezebel..Do not go look!! :o It is very naughty!!!
mcculoch - I do the hotpot with leeks and bacon that I've cooked off a wee bit first, and youre right, it takes ages to cook, even if you can see light through the potatoes!
VJsmum - Big hugs about DD, men never notice! My OH didn't know a thing about DS's mental health problems! I didn't realise what you mentioned were the symptoms..might explain more about DS's problems!
    1. £100 in the emergency tin:D Dear me that feels good:) I will get to £1000 by my birthday!
    2. This month I've put the grocery budget on my kitchen noticeboard. The men have watched the amount of money going down, and this week, after I spent £40 in aldi, and what was left went down to under a tenner, OH gave me £30 towards shopping!!! He rarely does that!!
    3. I picked difodals from our orchard :D and now have a big bunch in my porch:D
    4. Lovely floaty green organza curtains in porch too...like sewing ice but such a lovely green!
    5. Sorted out some scraps of fabric so I could make a collage. Not done that in ages and there's a space that needs some cheering up :) (Hahaha we live in 2 bloomin portakabins {lovingly nicknamed the shanty town}...there is NO space!!)
    6. My april challenge :D I average 16 hrs work a week over the year. But this time of year it drops to abour 4hours. (meaning some weeks in summer its 30 hours). I have challenged the family to live on what I earn and whats on the shelves in april!!
Hahhhaaa I am evil:D They need to learn that food doesn't just magically appear and that someone has to pay and make choices. :D
    I do like a challenge:)
Big hugs all round xx kiss kiss ;) BoP

BoPette has just shrieked. She has gone.

Oh no, Raffles has bin in the pond, and has got a frog!

No worries, the frog is safely back.

    BoPette is in pieces!
  • Dear me, BoP, it sounds like one of those nasty wildlife programmes out there, with lions gnawing on wildebeest etc!

    1. Another relaxing day at work with our former colleague and his wonderful tales.
    2. Had my hair done in our local (cheap) salon and read some awful magazines showing celebrities' belly fat and how they conquered their post-baby bulges.
    3. Stir fry for tea. Does anyone have any good recipes? I may start a thread. Anyway, the crunchy vegetables are good.
    4. Walked to Discipleship Group this evening. Jonah provoked a lively discussion.
    5. Free supermarket magazine to browse later.

LFS: Sounds like you’ve got ll the challenges in check
    Vickya: hope you are ok?
1.Came home early, actually got sent home early as my log in profile was disabled, I couldn’t get to anything, so after catching up on all the filing, I got home in daylight,
2.We went out to pick up a garden gate we won on ebay, it’s really lovely, it’s like a solid wood “fairy” gate, complete with big hinges and handle, a chap who works for a fencing place made it for his garden last year, then the council replaced the lot, we got it for £15, we just couldn’t get the wood for that.
3.We passed an asda so stopped in on the way home, it didn’t seem as good as I remembered but saying that a couple of bargains.;)
    4. Quite relaxed and enjoying catching up on some of the free kindle books.
  • 1, DH at work

Well past my bedtime so a brief list:

Nice chat with mum and friend from home.
    Day off work.
DD1 had a sneaky day off school with a sore toe....she has slept on and off so was obviously needing to catch up on some sleep....we both had a sofa each this afternoon!!
A few errands in our local town and a quick bite to eat for lunch.
Out gallivanting tonight at our friend's 60th, picked up my boss and we all had a very pleasant evening, came home with a box of delicious cakes :)
Covered the bright blue feet with a pair of DD2 s ankle boots!

    Happy Friday

BoPette is in this area, so be carefull when you read!

Promise of Fame, Fortune and Glory

Raffles is in BoPette’s bad books. I do not think he will be getting her cuddles this day. His kill rate is up, and he is taking no prisoners. Ratters beware. He is available for hire on eBay at …

Levels and mad driving, France has problems with heels! New gates, early doors. Stir Friar. Aye, bacon, chopped, pineapple, mushrooms Toe Nailed Onion. Fry up in hot pan with bit of Tom Puree, shill and basil. And (n)Poodles, stir and serve. It’s a bitser meal! DFV. The other half is in Raffles! Meltdown, oh now, not serious I hope. Face scrubs, and rubs. Pastry. Diets and gravy. Oh, and £70 in the Paddington Jar! & you no think we should set raffles on KK’s tutor? KK time to adopt thirst boss’s rules.

1 Company has subsidised shop and canteen, use them
2 Company has Sports and Social club, but as yous under 18, no use the Bar, but it still costs 5P a week
3 Never come to work in a new car, the boss will think you are paid too much
4 Check your wages in cash on Thursday. If wrong, do not come in on Friday.
5 Every job takes an hour
6 Company has a pension scheme, but do not put a penny into it, cause when you retire, there will be nothing left in the bucket
7 The boss always thinks you need them, actually, they need you.
I would miss out the thirst six!

Oh, and no seeing shrinks. They only thrive on peoples misery. Watch a decent programme like Wilfred instead. BoPette loves it at the moment, I actually think she is in …

Now where was Raffles and the Wildebeests

5 I now have to get up before BoPette even thinks of her silk slippers, and do a recce of the bathrooms, and kitchen, just in case the latest desserts are on show. This morning it was clear. She sat outside yesterday, until our neighbour, who has more bones than BoPette cleared the smallest grass snake away. As for the frog, I safely returned hime to the pond. They were not happy, both Raffles and BoPette. BoPette has hidden, rightly so, Raffles W8Rz chew sticks. Mind you, Raffles no longer needs them.

4 In other news, we had Chicken Curry last night, freshly prepared by your good old BoP. BoPette has gone and gone the snorkers and bits in for the morrow, all we need is some good old fashioned SpagYetti. Mushrooms are also in.

3 Tonite, so we may have Live Scrabble and Live forgaging reports this evening. No, in fact I thinks we shall play Monopoly. We had previous cat, before last Monty, another Monty, who added extra rules to the game. If he knocked your buildings off, they went back to the bank. It also means, that the old Bulldozer toy, circa 1972, came come into use.

2 Morrow is another football event, so watch those spaces

1 Now lost in the haze of alcohol middle aged.

Next time to read the latest bull, The Gettysburg address was said on 19th November 1863. It did not get printed in the Times until 4th December 1863

    Rampant Recycler
Have had a flick through Eatability which was interesting. (I wonder if it was a duplicated gift? Happens a lot with books!) The late 80s /early 90s seem to have been a sort of tipping point towards current day cookery. I have cookery books from every decade from the 40s, literally.
Some are very dated, (Florence Greenberg's Jewish Cookery*) but this one, written in 1986 - it refers to the horrendous January weather that year, never forgotten! - isn't.
Jocasta mentions an 'ancient' food processor, her equipment list for a kitchen is very similar to Jack Monroe's (Actually most of the introductory pieces are very similar to Jack Monroe's...!)
I have found new recipes that I want to try, will report in due course.

Lfs, glad it wasn't just me with the hotpot. Deffo going to see if it works with tinned spuds, even if the little beggars take an age to slice.

    * As you will gather from frequent mentions of bacon I am not Jewish. The book came from my late brother in law's flat many years ago.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.
