A very quick scim through the posts as the wifi is terrible here - sooooo slow! Battery running out fast too
but wanted to say thanks for the mentons.
We have an 'executive room' with scaffolding and air-con pipes blasting away outside the window, the corners have definitely been knocked off everything - furniture, basin, etc, the beds are damp, the weather is appaling (of course, this is Blackpool after all), but we have a jacuzzi and the food is hot, good and plentiful. So no complaints then! Going to enjoy the gym in a mo then meetings this afternoon and this evening. My friend has gone to the pleasure beach so she's having a fun time too, she didn't feel so well this morning so I told her not to go but she's a big kid and went anyway.
Hoping all is well with everyone 'at home' looking forward to reading you properly when I've recharged me batteries. Take care all
From 'er oop norf0 -
lovefullshelves - just hide that emergency tin from me?! <deeply impressed!> Must try being more public on grocery spend - make the lads realise the wallet isn't infinte! Why a shanty town? Selfbuild going slowly, property hunting?
BoP - Raffles needs supplies of butter & garlic if he wants to eat frogs. Live foraging reports?!
patchwork - a good storyteller makes all sorts of chores go lighter! Crunchy vegetables are very good - with a possible exception for celery. (A quirk.)
Purple kitten - sent home?! Fairy gate sounds wonderful (google images fun too) & asda not bad but not as cheap as aldi or lidl. Happy kindling!
westwoodpecker - profoundly impressed at tidying family aay productively then enjoying the day off!
mhagster - a "sofa each" sounds uproariously decadent & aww - you hid the blue feet. Flaunt this fashion!
mcculloch - nothing wrong with dated cookbooks - I've my grandmother's Constance Spry (deciphering her marginalia is a challenge!) which I refer to for special occasions and a Larousse Gastronomique! To my veggie relatives, I have a one word apology - "bacon". They understand. Saw a corking recipe for homity pie, which had the side note - "like all veggie recipes this goes excellently with sausages"...
Sparrer - delighted to hear you've found the Lancashire hotspots! Have a wonderful time & keep up the good work...
OS Pleasures recently
Yellow stuff as I shamble through the blinking chilly morning. Raffles, have another snake to keep your strength up & all of us getting in the vitamin D!
Oh good, it's Friday. My voice has gone deep & husky - I should be answering expensive phone calls (& not the "How Much to rewire the kitchen?!" sort...)
Cherry still hovering on the brink of an explosion of blossom. Come on, Spring!
Colleague trading in bike this weekend - just beaming every time he thinks about the new wheels!
Another colleagues' sons (both under 10!) went in air tunnel "flying" & video on phone shows Such Huge Smiles! Technology has shifted both how to have fun & how to share it - but has led my sons to play hnefatafl - pre-Viking "chess"...
Yet another colleague won a pair of tickets to a Manchester City match - executive suite etc. His 10 year old is on for a serious birthday treat, starting with picking his accompanying adult!
Joshing in the kitchen about shoelaces - if they keep coming undone, at least hide the ends underfoot rather than have the womenfolk nagging! That I'm female didn't seem relevant - we were talking & thinking in pure 4 year old...
Big hugs to all who need them, rousing cheers to all those still standing, still stubborn & effectively spitting in Fate's coffee. (It's hard work so I'm planning to take Mother's Day early, under clean bed linens!) and Spring cannot be Far Away. (Although it may feel it.)0 -
DVF - alternative life choice! An attempt to drop out of consumer society:D (fails as always due to love of books!). Haven't told anyone about my emergency tin, apart from you lot and my best friend...I'd be amazed if my menfolk suddenly didn't desperately 'need' something! I just went and looked at my cherry as you mentioned yours...nothing yet!
1. Stir fried veg for tea, PSB, onions, chard, cabbage all homegrownnow thats local tea:) £1 worth of chicken, 54p of noodles, about 10p worth of ginger and flavour 3 of us fed:D
2. Sourdough sponge growing merrily in a bowlto make rolls in the morning:D
3. DD coming tomorrow:D
4. A load of washing dry in greenhouse...but..
5. Little tiny mixed leaf salad is growing:) and first tray of lettuce plants in the greenhouse to germinate:D soon there won't be room for washing! (I nearly garotted myself putting tray of lettuces down!!)
I earnt some money today and DS asked...'does that mean there's more in the food budget?' No sweetie, its a budget, it stays the same. And he's nearly 18!! He just hangs onto his money for grim death till he really wants something! I love my kids, they do make me smile:D

Had a day off work, didn't go as originally planned so I'm rather annoyed at myself but never mind. Still managed to get some stuff done!
1. One pleasure is getting work that I've procrastinated on done. Had a pile of vintage books I've been meaning to list on Etsy and today I've finally done two of them, I WILL do more of them tomorrow.
2. Went in to Kingston to do a bit of window shopping. Also went to John Lewis with my free tea and cake voucher for March, turns out the cheese scones are included as part of the voucher and the lovely lady behind the counter gave me an enormous one
3. Emptied my pennies jar and counted up £1 of 2 pence pieces and £4 of 5 pence pieces. The 5 pence bag is going to have to wait until I get the final £1 together but the 2 pence bag was paid into the ISA along with a bag of 20 pence pieces I've collected over the weeks.
4. Had a nice afternoon with Gentleman Caller yesterday, since he's moved to another team at work we don't get to see each other as often so it was nice to spend an afternoon with him.
5. Number 4 has prompted me to start going through my books on London and find some new places for us to visit. When we started dating we went to quite a few museums and things but the cold weather pretty much ended those trips. Now it's getting warmer we need to start visiting things again.
6. Spent a silly amount of money in Hotel Chocolat, which isn't very MSE but it means I have delicious chocolate in my fridge. Going to use it as a motivator to get more damn work tomorrow!
Have a lovely evening everyone!0 -
Live Scrabble
BoPette goes thirst, wobbleade is pored. She needs to win tonight to get within two of three on the bounce. Lays a Toad. BoP strikes with Ox. 22 plays 10.
BoPette slips into an early lead with Zit, and offers best of three. No problems. BoP is Quid(s) in on the treble word. 113 plays 76 to BoP.
Foraging update
Raffles has exitted the flap. I fear for the local vermin.
Could had put down AiryEdy. No, but gone on the Z. BoP now on 155. Leads by 60. Now I nose yous lot would like BoPette to win, but when she adds 27 to 95, and gets 132. I ask you all. There is no wonder I have a broken heart!
Foraging Update
Seems the local vermin have got wise to Raffles, he returned empty handed.
Round one coming to a head, I am on 270, having just canned it, BoPette is on 171.
Now BoPette has hidden the score sheet, but she opened the triple word with Lend earlier, but I have just got the B in me rck. Bin is going to be played!
Bin laid, If as well. 44 scored. BoPette excuses hersen, she just picked up the other B!
Championi, Championi, Championi
Final Score. 344 vs 221. That is now nine on the bounce for BoP.
Challengers now required!
Round two, mugs did not wants to go thirst. Now, I slip into an early lead, hold my own, only to get threatened to box some lug. Now I am not one to stnd for this, some am sat down. Now she compliments me as I score only 3 with Err. No problemo. Dressing is down for 61. In the lead again!
A cloud has come down folks, I said I was going to take the triple word. Misty in for 33. BoPette lays Qualms with an R. Oooooooofed. Thirst one of the eve. Scores 130 to 94! Easy, easy, easy!
Apparently I am not owing me self any favours this evening. Now I have Inuendo to place next. Guess it will get ...
BoPette eventually lays the Q, quilt for thirty. I place the Ex for 51. Solid performance one, 312 plays 143.
Now we have the Sheep on the Bored, Bleat is played!. Guess it is going to be ten on the bounce!
Three places to be out, but BoPette lays all. Final score 404 vs 251. That is ten on the bounce! Tank goodness, the tiger lillies are now playing. Not for he feint hearted!
BoPette has opted to go for it, again she needs to get two wins to be in a shout of three on the bounce. Best of five this evening it is. Updates will be subject to the wobbleade level!
The Victory ale, Batemans, is pored [STRIKE]The next updates are subject to censorship.[/STRIKE] this is due to DD's YouTube problems. Though BoPette seems to have tken an early lead!
No probs. I fear a dan breaker this eve. While I was behind, by a shot. My prize on the tripe has just put clear blue water between us!
I node the oink pad does spill chuck, but a lad we no be paying seven of the beast this eve.
Now it is eleven on the bounce!0 -
DfV: Work comment, yeah I know, not quite like that.
BritishBilio: I like your idea of work motivation
1. My work account is still inaccessible, so wrote up a couple of documents, and I feel very relaxed, I know 2 days worth of work will still be there on Monday so I’ll deal with it then.
2. Bad animal food planning don’t get me wrong we have it all we just ran out of all the portions at the same time, DH has spent all day sorting it out into 50 days worth of portions.
3. Re loaded the bird feeders:)
4. Had a cheeky grilled bacon roll for lunch with salad
5. Bedding washed, dried and back on.:p
6. Moved some paperwork about, well on the pretext of organising it.
7. A quick run around with the hoover so it’s better than it was.
8. I admit it, I had a nap, I’m not keen on this feeling tired all of the time thou its very annoying.:o
9. I’ve found a job advertised I’m going to apply for, but it’s been out a few days now so I may be too late but worth a shot.:)0 -
Evening all :hello:
Thanks for the concern. Just too much to think about at the moment and too many directions I want/think I need to go in. Sigh. Just needing to work out which direction is best!
In the meantime, my pleasures for today:
1) HM chicken tikka masala from the freezer for supper tonight!
2) The father of a child in my class said that moving the child to my school in mid-Jan was the best move they'd ever made. Really settled, loving it, great progress etc etc. So nice to hear!
3) Letter received saying I have two tickets for Wimbledon in the ballot! Duly purchased. My mum will have to be nice to me if she wants to go with me.:rotfl:
4) Miranda tickets have arrived for a friend and I to see her at the O2 Arena in April! :j
5) Just been through a lengthy process to get through to my credit card's fraud department. Anyway, because I'd tried to buy something online, they stopped my card. Duly unblocked! I remember once they tried to stop me from booking a holiday. I appreciate that they need to prevent fraudulent activity but....
6) Kylie and Jason on Sport Relief. I'm 10 again!!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
