Evening all
[STRIKE]Five[/STRIKE] Six pleasures for Sunday:
1. Eventually got a very tired DS1 back after 3am. Sounded as if he had a really good time despite a journey that lasted forever.
2. Managed to get my bedding washed before the washing machine died and refused to spin anything. Oh joy... now is this the tail end of the last three things that went wrong or the start of a new three things...?This is a positive thread so it was just a little blip!
3. Found a laundrette that I didn't know existed a short drive away. I had no idea there were any in the town and we've only lived here for several years! Think it will be my saviour over the next few days. Am raiding the savings pots to fund it all but at least I have the coins saved! I suppose there is a real pleasure in realising that something which could have been a major disaster can be managed OK.
4. Broke my rules about unnecessary non-food spends and bought a little £1 pot of tete-a-tete daffs in bud to give to my mum when I next see her. She did very well in keeping the hyacinths going and I think these will be cheering as well as easy.
5. Found that one of the substantial series I've been watching about WW1 on iplayer is available already in its entirety on youtube. The subject matter is awful but I'm finding a lot of enjoyment in piecing together and understanding things that were not quite joined up in my mind before.
6. Oh and I can't stop without mentioning the yellow thing again... Am thanking the gods and goddesses for giving us this sunny reprieve. It's making lots bearable.
Sweet dreams

Good evening everyone :hello:
mhagster - yes, at cake club you take a cake along and have a taste of all the cakes there (tiny pieces). then you take a slice of each home! Perfect. https://www.clandestinecakeclub.co.uk There are a few internationally - why don't you set one up!!
Had a lovely weekend. Not sure why I'm going in to school tomorrow, but it's something to do with having a job.
My pleasures for today:
1) Another day with another friend. She was running the Milton Keynes half marathon and was there by herself, so I decided I'd go and support her.
2) Whilst in MK, I popped into Lakeland.Cheaper than paying postage. Honest
3) It's that yellow thing again. :j
4) Planning all done. However, it does help having two degree students in the class to do most of it
5) Watching Top Gear!

Purple Kitten, we had nosy neighbours once. She would put the baby in the pram and take it for a walk - just across the road - so she could peer in at what we were doing. So sad to have all those unfulfilled ambitions about things that didn't matter.
Dig for Victory - what is Anglo Saxon gardening please? I must have missed something.
For today
1. Spent hours at the allotment and the soil down there was a pleasure to turn over. It is in pretty good shape as I tried to clear it up at the end of last year so I got some seeds in.
2. Found all the seeds I need in a box in the garage. This has saved an awful lot of money. Some are a little out of date but I sowed thickly and am hoping for the best. Now need to remember to take some nets down there as it looks like things might have been nibbled over the winter.
3. Today's wrinkly veg meal was Chicken Thing - casseroled leftover celery and leeks with pancetta and a little chicken in mushroom soup. We ate it with the last (enormous) potato, some ancient mange tout and one parsnip. It tasted pretty good.
4. Wore my lovely hoody to the allotment. DH wouldn't let me have one but my emigrating friend gave me her Ralph Lauren hoody (slightly bleached on one sleeve). How cool is that?
5. I have a box of chocolates to finish.
Have a peaceful evening, posters and lurkers all.0 -
1. Sunshine
2. DD and I enjoyed our first proper picnic lunch of the year - i.e. eating outside in short sleeved clothing
3. We bumped into one of my group at the uni library and had a long chat with her. DD was also her education consultant, coming up with some great ideas for her maths lessons
4. Giggles and cuddles with my bestest buddy, DD
5. I'm reasonably prepared for tomorrow's lessons! and kind of preparedish for the remainder of the week
6. Picked up my mummykins' mother's day pressie.
7. DD and I shared a massive, YS, raspberry meringue we couldn't resist when we saw it in the shop0 -

Frith - the allotment sounds *brilliant* - and the more toads the better - no slug issues!
Kittikins - Guy Martin is fun, but that rebuilt smile spooks me a bit - as an almost parody of English teeth. Mahoosive TV? What have your lot been building in science?! Picnic & raspberry meringue - ooh taht sounds good!
sparrer - hurrah for gardens, well done with treadmill & I want to steal your freezer!
mhagster - icky milk is vile - hope you're OK now?! Anglosaxon seeds are whatever hasn't been tinkered with or introduced centuries later (like spuds!) like white or yellow carrots, peas, collards, field beans and the like. The lads will be taking up a new and curiously varied diet as their garden plots grow! You saw the Space Station too?! Excellent!
Skint yet again - club that 'putah! That soup souinds wonderful (and intriguingly AngloSaxon other than spud & spices.) Garlic is your friend versus a cold!
CCP - botherations about the knife - always a source of grief when an old friend scrumples. Share your hope for the chilli & well done Isis venturing near the Terrifying Patio Door!
Broomstick - glad you have lad back & that bedding done *before* machine died!
VickyA - if it is a *clandestine* cake club, should you be posting about it? Just "popped into Lakeland", "cheaper than ... postage" - look, just stand up & admit "My name is Vicky & I am a Lakelandoholic..."?!
Patchwork - AS gardening is much like ours but without the metal tools as mcuh & certainly without chemicals. You want ammonia? Get the chaps to p!ss in a pot. For the whole veg bed? Dig in horsesh!t. I'm also keeping it very traditional as in the menfolk do the heavy digging & I mind the baby plants & herbs... Think of it as a tiny allotment !!! history research project! Chicken Thing & chocolates sound utterly wonderful!
ampersand - au revoir!
OS Pleasures
Splendid car boot - spent more than expecting but got two very serious jerrycans at a risible price. Plus lots of odds & bits that keep the chaps happy.
Planting the last of this lot of hawthorn whips. Healthy outdoor exercise & yet I didn't feel like hell next day. The green gym is clearly more benevolent.
Getting a Big box of plastic flowerpots at the carboot. Where other vendors might try to charge me 5pence a pot, I've got a box with about 350 in for £2. No excuses for not *trying* to grow from seed!
Whole family showered & in clean clothes & boots to go & see grandparents. Knowing the next person is waiting, naked, helps get a shunt on!
"Love measured in fat, sugar & salt."
"She loves us A Lot!"
"She does."
Mother-in-law's "food parcel" for the boys would have any cardio screaming...
Great big hugs to all who need them, enjoy the yellow stuff indoors or outside amongst green things and all strength with the coming week.0 -
Quick post as smaller son is ill again tonight. He rallies round in the daytime but feels worse when tired. Refusing to go to out of hours for antibiotics as he's "too tired". :-/ Big appointment about this on Tuesday anyway.
Pleasures for today.
1) A lie in!
2) Worked on the allotment in baking sunshine (actually got to 20 degrees today!) Pond looking good and sons sat and watched the frogs surfacing then diving down again.
3) Stopped on the way home so smaller son could have his lunch on the local steam railway platform. :-)
4) Went to mum and dad's so bigger son could put his new tent up in the field. He was very happy carving new tent pegs with his Swiss army knife. Smaller son was doing a lot of lying down by this stage.
5) Tasty tea.
That's about it! Was a good day.0 -
Feelin the love on here today..must be the yellow thing!
1. My dad loved havin bonfires. He always had a box of matches in his pocket and found any excuse to burn things. And he was good at setting fires. yesterday OH rounded up the old artichoke tops and I set fire to them, first go. And we had a big roaring bonfire. And I just stood, watchin the flames, rememberin my dad
2. 4 loads of washin dry this wekend
3. DS deciding he wanted salad stuff!
4. Call from DD
5. Huge bag of PSB, which I have been trying to give away to everyone I know!

Kittikins, I like Guy Martin's voice too.
Not sure what you would make of Dr C's, it is very slightly Northern, but chiefly accentless as he was an Army brat.
It is distinctive though, as it is incredibly deep, his has to be the deepest voice of anyone I know personally. The only one that beats it is that bloke off the film trailers. You know the one.
Speaking of Dr C, after tonight's Diet Coke Chicken from the Jack book, he has requested a break from experimentation (!) . It was tasty enough, but a bit of a PITA to prepare, (loads of time spent watching it reduce from a pint of liquid to a few tablespoons) for an slightly unexpected result. It wasn't me either. Jack described her BBQ sauce as sticky, I thought, "How will that be sticky when there is nothing sugar based to make it sticky?" I was right. Zero stickiness.
I do have a brilliantly sticky Shirley Goode recipe for low cost home made BBQ sauce and I will, er, stick with that in the future.
1. Watching the Paralympics and athletics, especially Stockton - based Richard Kilty's Gold medal in the athletics. This lad had to train on the roads last year as he couldn't afford to train at the stadium, before his funding was restored, and now look what he's done.
2. Getting exactly what my sister wanted for her birthday present at a bargain price. Thank you Am@zon.
3. When the chain jumped clean off the trike's gear cassette this afternoon it went back on in 2 minutes. It can take a lot longer sometimes.
Which enabled me to:
4. Cycle down to Mr T.'s to spend my £3 off £20 tillspit in the hope of YS reductions. It was a smooth pleasant ride, no headwinds or driving rain. 75% of my journeys seem to be into a headwind!
5. Naff all in YS bargains but lots of reduced - to - clears in frozen food which were just as worthy. I got enough meat and fish for eight meals for an outlay of £14.50.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
McC - I'm with you with the deep voiced sons! The other day I was parked outside bigger son's school and I heard someone talking then opening the back door of my car. I thought, "Why is some man getting into my car?!" and swivelled round only to find it was bigger son with his new, deep 13 year old voice!0
