Porridge/porage = gruel
CCP I agree with the others, you have to appeal. Re the tater joke - groan! Was funny though.
VJsmum I'm only civil toward him because you can't argue with ignorance. And we have a family. And I'm too mature to be any other way!
Frith believe me if I can manage a gastroscopy anyone can. Not pleasant but soon over. And better to have a sore throat for a few hours than be so drowsy you can't think straight. Good luck
DD a tip my Granny taught me about washing woollen gloves (she knitted all of ours), put them on after rinsing which stretches them into the right shape for drying.
1. A friend told me about an EDT which is very similar to my favourite perfume but an eighth of the price. I can afford to buy myself a small bottle
2. Picked the mutt up from his new second home, He'd not eaten but not worried about that, he had a long walk in the woods and his blanky was covering a whole sofa on which he was lying like a little prince when I got there! I think he's going to be very happy, and spoiled, there
3. Popped in to see DD, she's being very stoical and has managed to sleep for a few hours. Hopefully the worst is over now.
4. Cleared out the fridge at lunchtime and put together a rather larger-than-intended fry-up of egg, bacon, chestnut mushrooms, red onion, plum tomato and sliced fried potato. Very filling and very tasty
5. Bought and sent two lovely cards to DD and DS whose birthdays are on Saturday, albeit 9 years apart.
Sweet dreams0 -
Bits of busyness over the last few days, my life is so quiet that it is hard-ish to build a non-repetitive list.
However....
1. Friend has asked me to go with her, expenses paid, to an OU conference in July. She didn't want to go on her own, the subject matter will interest me, but I wouldn't have paid for it. She has been doing well paid agency work so is stumping up happily.
2. Major Clanger swears, as demonstrated on QI: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OvefhhMbbg
3. I bought this https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/thursday-6th-february/product-detail/ps/p/foldable-clothes-drying-airer/
It's the A!di dryer on Specialbuy. I have an over the stairs airer but for many items I was struggling to carry a basket up my steep stairs, drying them, then bringing them downstairs to iron before hanging them upstairs again. Now I cut out a trip upstairs and downstairs with wet, then dry clothes and the rack can dry items that won't need ironing.
4. Weekly pedicure. Boring and blissful.
5. Lovely chats with different folks as I made my way round the shops. One was someone we have known for all our time in the North of England as he delivered eggs and potatoes to us when we lived in North Yorkshire. A lovely man who has made a good recovery from cancer in recent years and always such a pleasure to catch up with him.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
mcculloch what time of night were you posting at??
So another day in Hotsville ( does it read as boring as it is?) oh for something different to write! 37o but now down to a cooler mid 20's which will hopefully mean a decent nights sleep.
Up and about early...my body clock is getting back to normal even though I was on a day off. Phoned my friend from home and my mum. We have unlimited international calls.
Was supposed to have someone call in and collect a school book but they never turned up, which was a pain. Anyway, I stayed in and made red velvet cupcakes which were delicious.
Watered the veggies ( not too much left now, tomatoes and pea seedlings and some herbs) with water from the shower. We place a bucket under shower until it comes to right temperature. Then gave them a treat of iced chunks from a freezer drawer. When we had our really hot week ( as opposed to our regular kinda hot week) the kids were constantly in the freezer making ice cubes/ ice lollies and water and juice had been spilled all over the drawer. So that was a nice treat for the veggies!
The one good thing about the heat is the drying time of washing! Washing out and in and ironed very quickly.
Flicked through my UK magazines to check I've read them thoroughly ( yep!) so they will go to the library magazine swap box and hopefully someone will appreciate them.
Have a lovely hurrah it's Friday kind of day0 -
Morning
Frith - Not surprised you jumped at the knock on the door, think I may have squealed a bit when I saw the film
VJsmum - Thank you for the weepy warning in Mamma Mia, I tend to be a bit of a cry baby at anything even slightly emotional so will make sure I take the tissues
CCP - I would definitely challenge the mark nothing to to lose in asking
Pleasures for yesterday,
1. Leftovers from the day before's meeting for lunch, very nice it was as well plus it meant I didn't have to go out at lunch time
2. OH birthday and he liked the presents I had bought. He is very difficult to buy for and usually cannot surprise him with anything I buy but managed this time. I bought the book of the Shackleton Whisky Story and a sample of the whisky to try.
3. As OH birthday we intended to go out for dinner but as he had been cold and wet all day at work decided to stay in and order a takeaway. We used a really nice Indian Restaurant that is not MSE but was very yummy and nice for a treat. Will go out with the inlaws tonight.
4. Nice to spend the night in with OH and DD, all sat happily chatting and eating
5. Walked home from work and managed not to get too wet just a bit damp around the edges.

3 Now we are having a beast feast this evening, all made by BoP, you know who wears the apron. Chikken Tikka, a la BoPski. Two chikken breasts, on the bone, have been sweltering for a day or two in marinade. Yogurt, lemon, Termites, Garam Massala, Coriander, Chilli, lots and lots of

Apologies to KK. Your position as under the posts of BoP has ended.0 -
*sob* t'was a beautiful reign as guardian of BoP's signature box, but I shall hand my tiara over to CCP gracefully
1. I've decided to go for the higher level assignment at uni! You can't keep this Kitty down for long.
2. My uni bursary has just come in, yippee!
3. I finally got round to taking my posh bag out of the car and have found out that it's just a teensy bit too small to fit my laptop in. Not a pleasure in itself, but the pleasure will be felt by my credit card when I take it back to the shop for a refund!
4. Again, not much of a pleasure, but I bought two tops in MrA's this morning and neither of them look right, to again, the money back will be the pleasure.
5. I found more useful books to use as research for my assignment.
6. Finally managed to buy tickets to a HHistories event for DD and I
Hugs to all x0
