ampers love the poem. Like the board game analogy. Perhaps this year daily lists for this pawn should contain eight items only and i shall reward myself by treating myself like a queen
Right, off to write my list...

    Hi
I am a lurker on here and just reading Broomsticks post above, wanted to ask which tamari sauce you would recommend with tofu? The one i use is ok but nothing earth shattering! Incidentally are you vegan?

  • Good afternoon all!

    Mcculloch- shocking news :(

DfV - glad to hear that you are feeling a tiny bit better . Another week of antibiotics though:eek: !! I did laugh at the maracas bit as I could "see" it.

Sparrer - NZ sounds good :D

    5 for today

    1. It was sunny ... for a while :rotfl:Washing almost line dried.

2.Mucked out kitchen, cleaned out cupboards ....very "Sleeping with the Enemy" style of lined up tins.

    3. Making paella for tea . All prepared ready to go for when OH gets in.

4.OH at work ,so a bit of "me time" .Terrier here waiting for him, she has been here for most of the Christmas period as it gets a bit hairy at DM's as my 3 great nephews aged 5 and under are quite boisterous and have visited often.

5.Not looking forward to work on Monday but looking forward to pay day (Tues) and the "promise" of a new year .When I will try and become more organised at work and play.

Have a good evening all !

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
Evening all. I'm back in my own, somewhat damp flat - it could be much worse, of course, but that's not going to protect my LA / LL from my wrath on Monday morning given that I reported the leak months ago and it's just been left until it has reached its current state, with plaster and paint falling off the walls in chunks.

    1) A selfish pleasure - when my parents' cat was unwell in the early hours of the morning it wasn't my responsibility to clear up the resulting mess for once. :o

    2) Cuddles with my parents' other cat, a huge, glorious teddy bear of a cat. :D

    3) A pleasant lunch with my parents in a waterside pub, watching the rain running down the windows and being, at least temporarily, safely out of it!

    4) Although my flat is still very damp, the leaks seem to have stopped so I have relocated the Christmas tree back into the living room where I can admire it.

    5) Had a lovely cuddle with Isis who seemed to have forgiven everything in her joy at my return, but has gone back into sulk mode now she seems convinced that I'm staying. :undecided

On the negative side, there's STILL no good news about my sister - she's stuck in hospital for at least another week while they re-run some of the tests they've already done as they think they must have missed something. :( Not surprisingly she's very fed up and miserable - fingers tightly crossed that something shows up soon that will explain all of this.

mcculloch - I'm so sorry to hear about your colleague's brother - what an appalling thing to happen. :(
Back after a very long break!

Evening everyone! :hello: I've been trying to post for a few days but never quite got far enough due to parents/in-laws etc etc etc.

Like others, I can't begin to understand how people are feeling during the flooding/storms etc that they are suffering. Again, the demand for more compensation sits uneasily with me as it is an Act of God. I am only thankful that none of my friends nor family have been affected.

This year has been tinged with sadness as I've seen my grandmother deteriorate. She's in a care home, where she's well looked after, but due to a variety of strokes she's unable to walk nor speak. I visited her yesterday with my dad, which is very hard. Sadly, I've also lost a very dear friend to the horrors of ovarian cancer. At least she is no longer in pain.

However, there are some recent pleasures:

    1) Grandma is still "with it" enough to sign to offer us a cup of tea.

    2) Had a lovely Christmas spent with DH, the in-laws and my parents... in that order.

    3) Hopefully I'll be visiting a friend whilst she's up with her family in Scotland. She lives in Australia, but her parents are still in the UK, and she's brought her little boy and husband to the UK for Christmas. I have enough Avios points to get myself up to Aberdeen to see her! :j :j Cheaper than going to Australia....

    4) Spending time with a good friend who has spent the last couple of years in the Middle East. Treated her to a day out with DH and I at Chatsworth which is now featuring heavily on Death Comes To Pemberley. Shrieks of "I've been there!" fill the air! :D

    5) Rifling through cookery books and coming up with a cheap, yet tasty, meals. Just need to do the shopping now! :o

    6) The sun has been out! :j :j

    Take care everyone!

That's so continuing rough, ccp, all round. Glad you have Isis to come home to, sulks, disdain and Big Ignore or no. That is essential cat/human dynamic, after all.
    Snug hugs asap.

    1. We'll just call it Tout-à-10p Chowder-y thing, sortakinda - amazing w8rs rtc's: mussels, king prawns, tarragon, leeks, purple carrots, grated ginger, cream, dbl cream, cream cheese, parsley, yellow pepper, free P&O wine...what else? Whatever I chucked in. Stopped eventually. Lots to portion. Smelling nummy=understatement.

    2. A couple of long-finished white sweet peas have started blooming again.

    3. Theme? Another 8 raspberries suddenly showing up, ready.

    4. Opticians shut at 16h, so missed them again. But saw impromptu sign over road at jeweller - '50% off everything, today only.' Crossed over, had a look. '20% off everything on this shelf' additionally in every window. Anyone who paused was quickly assured by someone from inside shop that this applied on top of the 50%! I arrived just after 1645h...wished I'd known earlier. Could see that much must have gone, but picked up 4 decent bits of silver for £8.40.

    5. At w8rs, masses more rtc, but & was restrained. Learnt that hier's King Edwards' price was already a legendary error. Each sack contains 10x2.5k bags: each one of THOSE should have been 29p...but they were laughing.

    6. Needed petrol@Mr T. 2 nice wombles - 1 for £1.69 off next shop, other for 5p per litre off fuel. Used:-)

    7. The lovely crimbo beef and Heir to Throne gravy all prepped for future Sheepherders' Pies. Ribs in freezer with other skeletal remains for future soups.

    8. Think I'll just do hwb and read and listen. Wild outside again.

    9. Bowl of white hyacinths suddenly open, heady heavy-scenting kitchen when I came in a couple of hours ago.

    10. Spooky Men on again:-)

What's spooky men ampers? I put it in radio search and spooky came up with queen's speech (?!)
Woo hoo wins all round again bop
ccp glad you're back home hope it dries out well
Did my list of eight :T so now have fabby clean bedroom, bathroom (sparkle sparkle), son's room, kitchen and have done 4 work jobs. Since i'm only back for 1week before travels i need to clear some decks :( but now i'm across the board and queen
    1) doing a stardrops workout in the bathroom. The shower was particularly mingen
    2) making up a lish dish from leftover stuffing. Heated in pan with a dollop of cranberry sauce and another of onion relish, the handful of chestnuts left over, added half a cup of grated cheese, 2 eggs whisked with milk, into the oven for 20 mins. Omg soooo good and half left for brekkie cos did non-experimental cooking for the children
    3) getting through whole day with no accidents from the dogs (i dont think it's an accident, just that now the weather's got breezier bilbo decided peeing indoors was more fun hmmmmmm so retrain now going on)
    4) an email from hamper man. I'd mentioned emergency shop of dog food, milk and baked beans. He sed it must be an interesting recipe. Made me smile :)
    5) knitting. Have been knitting a lighthouse cloth. Like all my knitting it will be unique. Like the dog keep being short of a stitch. As i did for the dog might need mum's help deciphering the lace stitch.
So what does the pawn do when she's made it across the board and been crowned? She walks the dogs, takes a large mug of tea up to her nice big bed with clean sheets, puts on miranda desert island discs and checks out the forum. Perfect end to a near perfect day x

McC - so sorry to hear about your colleague's brother.

CCP - I hope the hospital is able to help your sister now.

Here are my pleasures for today:

    1) A lie in.

    2) Lots of phone calls from sons.

    3) Brought a lot of logs in to stack round the stove (probably my least favourite job).

    4) Mr Sainsburys called! Hadn't been shopping since before the school holidays started so cupboards were bare. All OK now.

    5) Nice tea. (Before Mr S called). All I had left was an onion, 2 potatoes, 2 carrots and a mango so I made a curry and it was really very tasty.

    6) Watched Dr Who from Christmas Day.

    Sons back tomorrow!

    Evening all.

(((mcculloch))) - your poor colleague - that's tragic.

DD, we are beside a river that flooded several years ago - we weren't living here thank goodness, but I think it's one of the reasons the rent on our place is a fair bit cheaper than the norm. Mixed blessing. We've only been on flood alert this week and river levels are dropping fine. Last year when things were looking more worrying we always left the house 'flood ready' when we had to go out and, like the neighbours, put the cars onto higher ground over night. It's nowhere near that stage atm.
:rotfl: about the eating. I now know who to blame!

mommyof4, I was vegan years ago but now we are all veggie-plus-fish-eaters. When I do stirfry I tend to use Cauldron ready-marinaded tofu. If you have a recipe for a good marinade for plain tofu I'd be really interested. We used to get Clearspring organic gluten free tamari, then Kikkoman g.f tamari from Mr S, but this time I used Sanchi g.f organic because I'd got it free as part of a £5 freebie voucher from my veggie box people. I reckon the Sanchi was much stronger and tastier. I needed to use far less than usual.

CCP, I'm crossing fingers again for your sister. Surely, they must find out what's going on soon.

    Five pleasures for Saturday:

    1. Big sort out of the kitchen drawers so we can find the tinfoil and bin bags and tea towels and microfibre cloths and everything. Chaos has been banished! :)

    2. Sunshine. :D

    3. DS1 got an unexpected letter with a very generous voucher from the head office of a restaurant company. He'd had a meal out with friends before Christmas and found a splinter of plastic in his desert. They were really apologetic. He is really chuffed, especially since he only told the manager so that nobody else had the same problem rather than making a complaint. They'll be able to go out for another meal now courtesy of the voucher.:D

    4. Enjoying 'Death Comes to Pemberley' and also 'Goodnight Mr Tom' which is showing again on itvplayer - such a good film and very true to the book. https://www.itv.com/itvplayer/goodnight-mister-tom/series-1/episode-1-goodnight-mister-tom

    5. Unexpected phone call from a lovely friend whom I hadn't spoken to for several months. Smashing surprise.

    Sweet dreams

    B x
