mhagster, I'm not there yet but your post has increased my resolve a tiny little bit to defrost my freezer too. Maybe today I can work out the plan for how to use the contents up.
ampersandWhat kind of coincidence was that! The lovely French names for the inks were what made me think of you. Very glad to have shared that particular pleasure and, yes, the page you showed on the website is the one I was thinking of. I think that I am going to see if I can start a savings pot to buy one of those pots of 'poussiere de lune' - love that colour. I don't think I'd use the blues in the the 'air' collection to make it worth buying the little pots. Like the grey though.
The absolute old-style pleasure in all of this for me is the slowing down and the enjoyment of looking at things and thinking and deciding and saving up and waiting. That's how it used to be when I was small. We never made impulse purchases. Everything was mulled over and decisions were very considered. It's important. I was thinking about this when I typed yesterday's pleasure about getting the filing cabinet ordered at last. I have been planning that for over a year now.
Another shop that is a real find, if you dont already know it, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it in Diagon Alley in Harry Potter, is Cornelissen. It is very close to the British Museum. (http://www.cornelissen.com/). It's fantastic to discover somewhere that sells historic pigments, gums and resins and vellum and parchment, and gold and silver leaf (none of which I will ever want to buy but I'm so glad that it's still possible). There's a little online booklet on how to make your own paints too. The calligraphy section - take a look at the inks - is a really rich source of enjoyment. I bought my watercolour set from them over ten years ago when someone gave me a money present that had to be spent on a treat for me. I treasure it and I love specialist shops like this.
Pleasure #1 for today was the yoghurt and honey I had for breakfast - no porridge (yet!) Pleasure #2 was having a quick look back through the Cornelissen site!

That is a wonderful gift post broomstick and one that will last - thankyou.
Something faintly dings re: Cornelissen from another London life decades gone...to revisit.
This is one too - listening now and wanting to re-wind, even as I hear in real time:

Upside down, along with a tart. was it horse and cart?
Burgandy ink. Whine on!
Xmas decs and treats!
Now sear this!
Quiet, and enjoyed my Hedgehog Day. Being all grisly and prickly saw things done. My way of curse. Ms BoP happy I thinks, she has bin nosing round the parish again. Puts too much worry in.
I see some OHs have been poorly. Jenny is a :heartpuls to yous.
5 On our NutFlux account, we are going through Red Dwarf at the moment. Ms BoP loves the way that the cat sniffs out things out. Raffles has taken to sleeping in the bath, checking the sink and guiding Ms BoP about.
4 Had a glass of wobbleade last night with the chuckling Ms BoP
3 Getting my apron ready for a night out tomorrow. And a journey home on the train. Ticket already got, so ifs yous in Coach B tomorrow night, you’ll miss me as I will be in C! (Apron, best bib and tocker!!!)
2 Used to think why it was not on tap, than I lived in Haradh. There the water tanks would fill once a week. The tower usually got it thirst. You filled when the water was on, usually a Sunday for some reason. Then you stared enough water for the rest of the month. Every villa did so. In the dry season, the water would probably be off for up to 20 days at a time, and by then, the tanks would be low. Not because there was a lack of it, just that so much was lost in the pipeline, for it to be on all the time. You got your potable water from the waterman. Well, in a town of less than 2,000 people, it was not economic to build the infrastructure.

Now, I really must get on with my day.

I'm a bit short of pleasures this evening - my sister is getting worse instead of better and has been taken back into hospital for another blood transfusion and some intravenous food and water. Please please let them find out what's wrong soon.
1) Woke up early this morning and couldn't get back to sleep, so decided to just lie there until the CH came on. You can guess what happened...
2) Isis playing with her ball to cheer me up when I got home from work.
3) This.Broomstick wrote: »Oh dear.

Brilliant! :rotfl:
4) Pub quiz tonight, which I hope will distract me from worrying about my sister, at least temporarily.
5) Bought some bacon to make a nice, healthy pasta dish for dinner, but I don't feel like cooking so it might get turned into a bacon sarnie instead.Back after a very long break!0 -
Some tiny pleasures later - but wanted to send some yellow thingto little sister, ccp. BIG cuddles to Isis.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Oh CCP I hope they get her sorted out soon....bad enough she is ill but worse that they don't know the reason...yet! Have faith in the doctors and nurses though. She will be getting cared for and fluids and nutrition which can only be a good thing.
I'm just popping in at silly o'clock to say I've just been doing my coming home ( have I mentioned that already.....6 days and counting!) online shop. I'm having my groceries delivered as I cannot face a busy supermarket after a 25 hour flight! Anyway..... I can see that UK prices have went up since we were last home a year ago but decided to do a comparison and my Oz shopping would still be $100+ more than the UK one for similar products. That's about £60 more. Still not sure why it's so expensive here other than people pay the prices!
Hoping for a productive day, lots to do so shall go write a list!
Enjoy your evening x0 -
Evening - having a cuppa before continuing with the grind. There truly is no rest for the wicked.
CCP - how worrying for you all. I dearly hope there are answers and treatment soon
Kittikins - sounds like "end of term" itis. Feeling rather washed out myself
DD - snap, we have a gbf too - and he also is DD's godfather. She lurrrves him and his partner soooo much (and I think, thinks we did well to choose a gay bloke as her godfather - even though she knows that we didn't know he was gay then, not for sure anyway. Not that it would have made a difference. the day we told her he was gay (she was about 8) she asked who "he was gay with?"When asked to guess (bearing in mind he always came over with his boyfriend), she replied "Daddy??" :rotfl:).
Frith - as one in possession of a hollow legged teenage boy, I sympathise. I think he is like an insect that has to eat its own bodyweight in food every day just to stay aliveI am impressed yours eats baked camembert :T
VickyA - I once did the supermarket savings stamps thing, I had over £100 worth and then someone nicked my purse which they were inmy mum did it every year though and it really helped her pay for Christmas food
LFS - I have one lone green bauble on my tree (there is other stuff, but only one green bauble. I am strangely attached to it and am now singing "One green bauble, hanging on the tree..."
Broomstick / ampersand - I can't write in ink. My handwriting looks shocking. It is OK in ballpoint though. Odd. A colleague described my writing as like a primary school teachers (sorry, Kittikins) so maybe it isn't "script" enough.
Mhagster - how very organised doing your shopping in preparation for your homecoming
BoP - I like the idea of a hedgehog day.
Pleasures for yesterday
1. Students got their marks and only one has complained. He is the usual suspect, however. Doesn't turn up much at all, doesn't listen or participate when he does and then complains about the mark.
2. yummy free pain au chocolat left over from a breakfast meeting - I had it for lunch
3. Last lesson with my masters group - feedback was good
4. went shopping in Brum. Couldn't find anything, got fed up, went to White Stuff and bought myself a tunic. Paid full priceDon't care
5. Out for a "mums curry" night. Was surprised by early birthday cards andbut pleased to be presented with a cake and candles in the pub, with a rousing "Happy Birthday". A week early but a lovely surprise - they got the age of the candles wrong though as it should have been a "2" and a "1"
:rotfl:
And for today
1. Another attack on the shops, in a different town this time, shopped like it was Christmas eve and got all the "peripherals" done. More importantly I did it like I wanted to. E.g. inspired by Dundee Doll, I had instruction that niece liked all things Miranda Hart so I got her a cookery book (Gary's cupcakes); a joke set; a chocolate plaque with "Such Fun" iced on it and some fruit based stuff (sponge thing, lip balm, shower gel - fruit friends (apparently)). Much more enjoyable than just going and buying a CD or whatever off a list. Just my own immediate family to deal with now.
2. A quiet coffee in THAT patisserie, Chicken if you are reading (if you are, come back - we miss you). No Christmas music :T or music of any kind, double :T:T
3. Met DD for lunch and we went a bit upmarket, but the full meals weren't much more than the sandwiches so DD had a steak (OK that was a lot more) and I had homemade shepherds pie. We will go back
4. DD has done most of the wrapping
5. DD has left her drama group. Kind ofas that is where it all began and the end is yet unknown. But she has outgrown it and is just so much more trained than them now. On an :money: front, we save £35 a month.:T
Right, I have four mini Christmas cakes to marzipan for dads hamper.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Sending love and healing prayers to you and your sister, CCP. Hope the doctors and nurses can find out what's going on and fix her ASAP xx
VJsmum - lol at the handwriting comment. I still haven't quite mastered writing on a whiteboard, but my IWB writing is getting better, and when it looks ropey, I just blame the settingsI'll have to be more 'write-on'
when I'm with slightly younger children though!
1. Much better day today. I didn't get an apology from my teacher, but as near as darn it! (Thank goodness!)
2. Spent some time in the nursery, so sweet, but so snotty and needy, lol. I couldn't do that full time, no siree!
3. Spent some time with my class for next term, a smaller class, and they seem very cute. My new teacher seems very on the ball. I have all the data and examples of work I should need to tick a few boxes in my files, and it'll help me get ready to plan lessons for them sooner when I get back in February
4. Got round to writing all my cards for my class and my little Year 1s.
5. My Head teacher told me she's going to really miss me and is glad I'm coming back
6. Christmas lunch with all the children - yum!
7. DD has graduated to her first keyboard piece where she uses both hands simultaneously
8. Last day tomorrow!!0 -
1. Rubbish run for neighbour and self, adjacent to P&R, so 2 buses to Scotsdales for 2 good bogof bowls packed with hyacinths: this week's coupon offer. Happy surroundings and much littlie excitement. All very beautifully lit. Just 2 No More Books today, 1 from their charity shelf - George Herbert and Henry Vaughan in the Oxford Authors series; 1 from the P&R ditto, into which I've plunged deep already:Jonathan Raban's 'Old Glory'. Wonderful words and acute vision. He precises stunningly the moment of his dream of a notion of the Mississippi -being a boy, my sort of Norfolk[old stamping ground], little stream, a childhood book, its cover....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Glory:_An_American_Voyage
2. Left Spooky Men on loop to hear as I returned.
3. Reverbe 20p on dark path exactly made up correct amount for P&R book.
4. About to have slice of defrosted h/m carrot and walnut cake avec green tea.
5. hwb awaits.
6. Really nice bus-driver on return run who let me get to seat before moving. Thanked him and we chatted - one of Life's educated philosophers. He was reading Heidegger. I haven't for decades. Old Pembroke man, recognised the scarf. 80's vintage M.Phil....no, didn't ask.
Healing in abundance on global span to encompass all of you.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:
