Evening all, and thanks for your continued good wishes for my sister: she's off for yet more tests tomorrow, and I really hope they get to the bottom of things this time before she gets so weak she ends up back in hospital again. :(

    1) Spoke to my sister on the phone and she sounds relatively bright despite everything.

    2) And she mentioned getting rid of various medical things she has been prescribed and which haven't worked for her. One of the things she was planning on disposing of is a nearly-full bottle of a prescription-only moisturiser that I also use, so she is going to pass it on to me to save me the cost of another prescription as I'm nearly out of it. :T

    3) Managed to pop down to my favourite local sandwich shop today just as they were closing up for the last time () - the pleasure being that at least I got to say goodbye to the owners before they left.

    4) Bacon-wrapped sausages for dinner tonight.

    5) Only four more work days until I finish for the year. :j:j:j
Back after a very long break!

Big hugs to CCP, Sparrer, Broomstick and MHagster for you and your poorly peeps xx

Had an 'interesting' day....let's be polite and say that my teacher could be a little more considerate and timely when sharing vital information for a lesson, not least because of the children's benefit, but also for me, as it was this week's observed lesson! Grrrrr.

    Anyway... pleasures:

    1. Only 2 days to go.....

    2. The class, whilst being very annoying and making my hour's lesson feel like 4 hours, did actually LEARN quite a lot, so I wasn't a total failure!

    3. Croissant for breakfast. Krispy Kream doughnut for afternoon tea.....

    4. Had a natter on the phone to a chum who was also enduring a 'challenging' day.

    5. DD, and my Mummykins, who both had to listen to me vent when I got home, grumpy and tired.

    Pleasures for today:

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Had a good tidy up, cleaned the bathroom etc.

    3) Went to mum's with her late birthday present (naughty Amazon).

    4) Dropped some stuff off at the charity shop.

    5) Smaller son has been eating non-stop since coming home from school! 2 mince pies, apples, a baked Camebert with carrots and celery then tea (chicken kievs, cous cous and more carrots). He asked for a bowl of cereal a while back but I managed to distract him.

    6) Walked round the village to look at people's Christmas lights and to pretend we were motorists and see what ours look like to passers by!

    Good evening everyone :hello:

Not quite the busiest day, but still pretty busy! :) I think I've nearly finished my Christmas shopping. One last thing to buy for my dad and hopefully that's it.... :xmastree:

    So, my 5 for today:

    1) Spurred on by the charity bag for clothes which turned up yesterday, I've also started a charity bag for books etc. I'm trying to at least get rid of some bits.

    2) More cake eaten from my stash I brought home from cake club!

    3) Paid in a cheque for expenses, but I've transferred it into a savings account for a subscription I need to pay again in a year. It was a bit of a shock to the system this year, so I have decided I really should plan it a little more in advance in the same way I plan for Christmas.

    4) Wondered whether people collect those saving stamps in places like Tesco? Are they worth it? What are people's views on this?

    5) Hair cut. Not OS (especially going on their prices), but definitely a pleasure.

    Evening all.

Ampersand, is there no limit to the things we have in common: Edmund de Waal, Radio 4 drama and now Rainbow Chard picked after dark?! :D
I posted this and went off to check my emails only to discover the December newletter from The Writing Desk - people who sell all kinds of real pens, inks etc online. Writing in ink is such a pleasure - I don't do it enough. They were advertising sample sets of inks from the French company J Herbin: gorgeous names. I want to write with ink called 'poussiere de lune' or 'larmes de cassis'! http://www.jherbin.com/fountain_pen_inks_colors.shtml

Happy green bauble joy to you too lfs. :D

    Five pleasures for Wednesday:

    1. Got the tail end of the Xmas presents ordered having had a brainwave about a DVD for my dad. :)

    2. Ordered a small filing cabinet which will arrive after Xmas now. The plan is to put it on one of the table tops in our front room/office so that all my day-to-day stuff is at hand but out of reach of flood water should the worst happen. I have got to get the paper mountain sorted somehow. I need it near where I'm working but I can't risk a filing cabinet that stands on the ground.

    3. There might be the possibility of getting an allotment in a not too far away village. We've been on our local waiting list for several years - too long - so this might be a solution.

    4. Stopped at W8rz for my free coffee on the way home.

    5. It was really foggy as I was driving back through town, so foggy that I couldn't see the branches of the trees holding up the Xmas lights and it looked from a distance as if there were all these huge glowing snowflakes that were hovering in mid-air all by themselves. Lovely.

Big hugs to those recovering from poorlinesses and those having tough times and to anyone else who wants one! :)

    Sweet dreams
    B x

    1. Broomstick - hardly believed my eyes as I read your 1st para. Talk about more metoo!metoo!metoo! Have been looking for more burgundy ink and/or cartridges and converter types or similar online this week. Then the joy of J. Herbin, fabricants d'encre! ...never heard of them before. Hungrily read. I'm an ink writer;never use blue unless under duress. Found 2 more modern Parker sets in France the other Sunday, €1 each. One's USA made, with rollerball as no.2; the other no.2 is a biro. Fountain pens are always users/keepers, while gleaning vintage for stock. Can't get some of the links/headings to open - error 28, but will persist. Odd that I don't see Cross in their range.
    Do you mean here:
http://thewritingdesk.co.uk/showproduct.php?brand=Herbin&range=Ink+Selections&cat=gifts, for 'They were advertising sample sets of inks from the French company J Herbin: gorgeous names.', but then find:
' Please note that these cartridges will not fit Parker pens.'
Totally agree re: names and larmes de cassis is probably nearest my colour and I have never had scented ink....
    Want some now though.
Look at me rambling and raving even more.... Interesting reading The Writing Desk take on left-handed nibs, will definitely contact re: various ?s
Thankyou so much for such a real pleasure:-)
Further: rainbow chard. It's popped up this year, unplanted by moi, all in with the strawbs beyond kitchen window. Brought it back from France years ago but hadn't seen it since and never there!

    2. ...having stopped at JL's pen section for an indulgent, hopeful stock check this afternoon

    3.....after Library

4.....via Bus Pass, hence npd. Almost nsd but for postage.

    5. No Spits this week[obligation clash]so should set sail across Bay of E for some o££set. Nearly 2 years since I did any there.

Thick fog all day with matching veiled yellow thing and thick fog in putah also, je crois. Seems better now. Booted as normal, but nothing would open, just endlessly never decreasing circles.

Bonne nuit à tout et à tous.

Today I woke up with only the tiniest of wobbles so that was a pleasure to start the day and wobbly/dizzy/staggering has passed.

We are in dispute with our new phone/internet provider. We were told unlimited international calls which is why we chose that package, they have charged us for calls to UK and say we were misquoted ....we have a contract! Anyway, no UK calls since last Thursday until it's sorted out....woke up this morning and had a brain wave! Skype! So I recharged and called me mum and my best friend . Mum not feeling great so short call but me and friend have not spoken in 7 days .....so much to catch up on....2 hours worth of fabulous chit chat and only 8 days till I see her!
Such a pleasure and I could walk around with my iPad whereas with house phone I'm stuck to a dining room chair....cordless phone at some point but not a priority at the mo.

Phone call from school . Yesterday received DD1s report card and form for school camp saying $125....yet school fees form said $250. So left a message last night and it is $125 and does not need paying until February ...even better.

Decanted freezer contents a drawer at a time....kindly gave my son the last ice lolly lurking in the depths ( I'm nice like that :)) washed drawers and have 3 pots of unidentified soup out for tea. All that's left is 2 tubs of rhubarb ice cream , one pack of steak (rtc of course) ,roast spuds for Sunday, turnip for Sunday and a pack of ravioli . Will be all used by start of next week.i want fridge and freezer switched off for coming home.....in ONE tiny little week :)
Freezer icy bits were donated to the lemon tree:)

Hoovered, washed floors, tidied up around me whilst listening to Mr Buble crooning Christmas to me.

DD1 and I cleared the veg patch. Coriander had gone to seed, lettuces were overtaking the patch, carrots are ready ( some will be carrot/ coriander soup) and some will be M-early Christmas lunch also the beans are going to be eaten for lunch too. I am excited that we will be eating our own produce. Tomatoes are plentiful but very green , pumpkin are coming along very nicely and my sweetcorn look majestic. We will plant more seeds when we come home from going home :) strawbs just need to turn red.

    Ironed and ironed.

I'm going to make a peach upside down tart for pudding after unidentifiable soup.

Have the loveliest of Thursdays :)

I am back with some extra pleasures....this is my 3 rd attempt!

Soup identified as minestrone ...once I added some tiny alphabet pasta , some courgette and bacon and the third was not soup but pasta sauce so DD2 had that with pasta.

Receiving a very nice email from the school secretary of the school I listened to yesterday in the cathedral. She has passed my email on to the school head and head of music .

Asking a neighbouring business ( across the road) if I could borrow their garden refuse bin as they don't use it very often, so they said yes any time.we have a tiny garden bin emptied fortnightly but have a huge garden, so Have just filled the second bin with weeds alone.

Peach upside down tart looks perfect, letting it cool down.
