5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

From my phone .... Today was supposed to be the day the Internet was connected ( as was last week and the week before) but not connected yet!
Been a balmy 12o and pouring with rain all day so jumpers and boots on today. Heating on too.
OH was in hospital all day so took my free magazine in with me .
I went to old, old work for lunch with 3 of my old customers I've kept in touch with, so it was nice to see them. It's a 10 minute walk from hospital .
Got staff discount (25%) on lunch which I wasn't expecting so that was nice.
Lots of hugs and hellos from other old customers which was nice.
Saw stressy little man and other main colleague and that was nice.
Popped into supermarket on way home as I had a notion for baked potatoes for tea and they had a fill a bag for $3 fruit and veg. I managed
to squeeze in apples, banana, pears , half a melon, bunch of beet root and a turnip!
2 final episodes of downton watched and enjoyed. Loved the fashions .
Enjoyed a baked potato with tuna and cheese for tea.0 -
Morning - another day of prep and marking #10 days to go :j
Just to clarify, none of us knew the poor lad who died, but my gratitude is that DS (who can be a sensitive soul) seems to be coping. My friend, who works at the school, knew him and said they are all shocked and devastated - a couple of the teachers especially. It is believed to be pressure of work that led him to do it, but information is scant.
Not wishing to take away from the tragedy of it all, but I had a chat with DS along the lines of "nothing is so bad, nothing so important as you and your well being. The GCSE's don't matter so much that that would be your only course of action" Which was swiftly followed by "so, about your history homework", which at least made him smile
BoP, sometimes I don't understand a word you say, but others, like thisA Junta corrupt, extinguished. A desert folk, returned? When Skid came back that
morning after his brother was downed. Others would be given life and hope.
There, manhood came. TV news stopped. It was unimportant anyway.
Pure poetry. Thank you.
McCulloch - lovely photies
DforV - bravo to the parking attendant
CCP - that cat sounds nutsI am not a cat person, but I do like things that are nuts. It sounds like you are getting used to each other
Chicken - OK a caution - but I am watching:cool::p Oh and said pig is not orange enough to be a Tamworth, but it does reek and it has apples for eyes - bizarre!
Ooh Kittikins - do you eat school dinners? Hope they've gotten over the "turkey twizzler" phase. It's the puds i'd like. What is the point of rotational symmetry? My son is on Quadratic equations - what is the point of those also?
PK - pringles, once you pop you can't stop. I find the same with doritos
Tealady - well done for not raiding the savings
Frith - you are the charity shop queen, I never see such bargains. Though I did buy a n*xt dress a few weeks ago for £7, that I have had many compliments on. A couple of female students were like "oh we love your dress, where did you get it?" well, I couldn't say the hospice shop, could I? So I said "oh, this old thing? its from n*xt but it's years old" :rotfl::o
DD - thanks for the knitting link. Looks like some interesting stuff on there. I wish they hadn't called them "grandma's slippers" though. Couldn't they have called them "trendy lecturers slippers"? :rotfl:
Bagpuss - "Cake, tea and gas"? That'll be the dried fruit in the cake :rotfl:
Mhagster - your temperature seems to be up and down like a tart's drawers!:p Bright and sunny here, but only about 2 degrees.
Pleasures for yesterday
1. the single most exciting thing that happened yesterday is that I found a new tip! My usual one was shut, when I took the moth ridden carpet, so a quick google showed me a swish new one, they recycle everything possible - even carpet (though what they do with it, goodness only knows) and they have a shop :T which was shut, but at least I can save it as a future pleasure. This is what my life has come to - the pleasure of visiting the tip shop. Where did the rock n roll go?
2. two loads of washing done and on the line
3. yummy beef in red wine from the slow cooker for tea.
4. Starting to plan "big holiday", we are thinking South Africa, but will go round the world and back in the planning before we finally decide. Exciting though
5. made a batch of chocolate crispy cakes for the hollow legged one.
OK, back to the grind. Have a good day allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Enjoyed a baked potato with tuna and cheese for tea.
That's my favourite tatty filling, too.CCP - that cat sounds nuts
And you would be right! I finally worked out last night why I keep finding clothes on the floor under the drying rack rather than hanging on it - because Isis has found that it's fun to pull them off! She ended up with a house-plant on top of her over the weekend because she kept pulling at the leaves until it fell over. She's an endless source of entertainment! :rotfl:
One unexpected pleasure for today - I've just spotted that a discussion I started is this week's 'OS thread of the week' in the MSE newsletter.Back after a very long break!0 -
I see there is a bit of trouble with someone not wear a poppy. So what, we have reached the stage to me that the poppy is not a solemn item anymore, but a symbol of marketing for a charity. Why has this become so. In 1981, we did things for an item broadcast on TV. Raised a few pounds and sank a few wobbleades as well. In 1982, it was different. We cared not so much for this TV appeal in November. Not the same when some your own age had fallen.
Then I threw parcel of food, away from the starving in the horn of Africa, knowing they would not get it, but the fit would be scrupulous to do so. Medicene Sans Forntier tried in vain, till some berk turned up.
But now some 30 years later, there is vehement attack on not conforming? Are we not animals caged in a farm, conform! Do I have to pass on every time someone sent me a picture of Great Uncle Sam in Italy in 1944 on factwit? We have CIN, that pumps out it free advertising, yet a presenter earned more in a night, than the checkout girl raising money did in a year? The poppy had to compete with these bigger organisations in its time of year. When I was younger, they had flag days, and only one was allowed to gather! So for the poppy to compete, the solemn symbol is used as an emblem today. Does this distract from its original aim? We have removed the word Haig Fund, because we feel correct, yet we have forgotten Verdun. History erased for the sake of the present. And what of today, a plethora of cardboard hand written signs saying I am in misery, yet I cannot do anything. The same situation as dropping food them years ago, falling into the hands of the fittest, while the organisations behind again get rich.
And a man of reconciliation recently departed, Manfred Rommel. Late politician and Mayor of Stuttgart.

Will catch up read on Friday, but pleasures:
1.Collected repaired hard drive an hour ago. No putah since Sat. Power burn-out sth sth [I glaze over, don't understand anyway]and saw the smoke flare marks inside the old bit, a little metal box, and No, it wasn't a handy damaged bit that comes out every time to convince the &-type ignorant. It's another £113.50 though, so we agree that next time it's new putah...hope another year's there yet.
2. NZ 1950's school friend will be my pic/passport renewal referee, which I will do online immediately after this.
3. It's dry, so Spits sorting after that may not be too bad. Need to earn to offset both outlays, putah element of which was unforeseen.
4. Most of yesterday at Fitzwilliam with further appts necessary. Interesting re: Seal/lump of formerly gilded lead. It's an 1848-1850 re-strike from when the New Town of Prague's former Horse Market became Wenceslas Square at a time of rising nationalism.
5. Chinese buttons and poss.Japanese tile need further research but had excellent talk/listening with so many people whose sharing of knowledge is a joy.
6. Very deeply caught in Michael Frayn's 'Headlong' to the extent of needing book of all Pieter Breughel the Elder's works. One coming from elsewhere to Library. Making do with book of engravings atm, but this is far too incomplete to have in useful tandem with this totally racing, brillliantly and engagingly written, powerfully consuming read. There was a Complete works reduced in Fitz shop...to £50. No, certainly didn't. I need all the Months and Seasons works especially.
7. Sth rcvd on Sat meant 5+hrs on phone Mon a.m., but Fri visit arranged eventually.
8. Bit late to record now, but feels right to do so...attended Remembrance Service in ancient parish Chapel on Sunday. Overflowing. My family men were all ANZACS and I was first married from an Ypres Road.... ANZAC Day is 25 April and involved us from earliest school days, every year.

It is ever an area of turmoil for me and I am intensely mindful of the fact that I am [a]alive, at Liberty of Thought to express such personal conflicts.
Think I'd better get on with other things now.
Satisfying afternoons and as much yellow thing as poss. to all. Doubly valuable for body and soul at this time of year.

She was so enthusiastic to get in her cage in the boot of the OGV ( cage =a tip shop bargain for £3 VJsmum- it had no method of securing the door so we bought a kebab skewer which works fine :rotfl: ) she jumped into the bodywork of the car twice before the boot was open !! It was horrible to watch actually. She IS nuts.
3. The weather was luvverly sorry mhagster
4. DM had a medical appt. in Kent and went with my brother and was back before 4pm which was the reason why I took the afternoon off in case she got back late .Animogs to sort etc

1) Lovely yellow stuff all day, which has left me in a rather better mood than I have been.
2) Took a packed lunch to work for the first time in ages, having got rather out of the habit recently.
3) Was an NSD until Isis, who seems to be having a hollow day, polished off the last bit of cat food in the house and I had to go out and buy some more - I got some that was on SO, which is something I suppose.
4) Found some HM prawn curry in the freezer for dinner - like most of my HM curries it wasn't spectacularly tasty, but it filled a hole!Back after a very long break!0
