DfV, thanks for another wonderful post. Thank you Bagpuss, and to all who give their time voluntarily.
A bit late for Remembrance Day but as there was mention of Scouts laying poppy wreaths, this is my grandson in 2009 doing just that. I know I have posted this before, but here it is again.
And here is the great-great grandfather, killed at Ypres in May 1915, that he laid the wreath for. They share the same name, both first name and surname.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
1) Took my car into the garage as it kept flashing an annoying warning message at me (it's one of these that insists on a service after a certain number of miles, regardless of whether it was serviced only a few months before ), and they managed to switch it off and didn't charge me in exchange for a promise that I would go back there when it does need servicing. :T
2) Glorious yellow-orange-red-purple sunset.
3) Isis was very nervy when I got home yesterday and I was a bit worried about leaving her this morning, but she's back to her usual charging around the flat in hot pursuit of her ball this evening so whatever scared her was obviously a one-off.
4) Took a beefburger out of the freezer for yesterday's dinner but it didn't defrost in time, so I can have it tonight instead.
5) [STRIKE]Might go to the pub quiz tonight, as it's stopped raining and Isis seems to be calm again.[/STRIKE] Change of plan - Isis is in a cuddly mood so I'll stay here - there's always Thursday's quiz.Back after a very long break!0 -
Good evening all!
VJsmum- You do crack me up! Is it an inflatable Tamworth by chance ?? Sounds as if we are all tuned in to dodgy '70's p*rn music then ! Glad you is a lady wot lunch is soon. I love my Fridays off:D .Sorry to hear about the young man who took his own lifeHorrid for all concerned.

1. Half day in office half day on site visit.
2. Raised issues on site visit - serious stuff and I needed to take drastic action, had the new bloke with me as I am his "mentor" (HA!) . His eyes were on stalks ,initiation by fire I reckon.Poor chap.
3.DM put hens to bed as I was late back due to the above issues which will need following up tomorrow.
4. Plain tea jacket P's and fish fingers (orange and white dinner )
5. Half day tomorrow as taking flexi .
have a good evening all !:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
VJsmum - Thanks for the vote of confidence....I think I'm teaching rotational symmetry next week. Rotational what?!?
I had a funny from a girl in my class yesterday - "pacific" in it's more commonly heard meaning......no, not an ocean, but 'specific'. Bless her, she took it well when I corrected her, but it did make me smile inside
Today - we had 'gay' written on the board, in it's original meaning of happy - they were researching what happiness means as whilst they had a gazillion words for anger, they had very few for happinessBut
that the g-word was written up by a child and they didn't all go stupid, just one or two!
Anyway.....
MHags - I love your description of your holiday, makes me want to go 'home' as well - and I am already!
VJsmum - condolences to your son and his friends (and the boy's family), such a tragedy xx
BoP - I'm with DfV - the Beavers need you! I miss my Rainbows, but I know the time is not remotely right for me. Get Mrs BoP a p-u-s-s-y to stroke of an evening and get back with the little'uns
1. NSD
2. Yummy leftover school lunch - mmmm, so glad the children didn't think much of the beany veggie stew thing. I love it! And there's more for tomorrow and possibly the rest of the week, as no one else in the staff room seems to want it! Silly people....
3. Left school before 5pm!!
4. Had a bit of a lie in this morning, but of course still got to school nice and early, to have my much-needed morning coffee
5. Managed to renew my library books online, thus avoiding having to drive to uni to take them back tonight - phew!0 -
DforV yup it’s a caravan phrase that stuck from Chicken on here. As for the tumble dryer I think it may have shrunk it’s last lot as it made a terrible graunching noise and stopped. We have another on the way but it would have been quicker to walk it here than to ever order off a certain white good company on bay of the e ever again. Hoping it doesn’t turn into a paypal dispute.:(
1. I took the day off, I had felt terrible with a temperature but I reckon it broke at that point as I feel a lot better now.:)
2. Laughed a lot when I bought in some pringles we finished them so then DH went out and picked up the tube!:D
3. Both DH and I went to physio tonight not really expecting anything but she was excellent, we walked away in lots of pain but in a good way, back again on Thurs.:T
4. Came back late, took some strong painkillers and cooked up an omelette.:)
5. Let the animals out, and one tapped me on the leg, climbed up and curled up on my lap back to sleep again awww.0 -
Evening
VJsmum - (((Hugs))) to your DS and the boys family and friends
Pleasures for today,
1. There was only a couple of people in the office today so one of the guys bought us all a bar of chocolate to improve morale, such a nice gesture and yummy chocolate
2. Successful raid on Debenhams using friends discount, they didn't have a couple of bits I wanted but friend is going to look in another branch for me tonight
3. Free fruit and veg box today with lots of yummy things that I don't normally buy so going to have some fun cooking some new recipes. Thank you to the kind person on this thread that gave me the code.
4. OH had some extra work tonight so bought chips on way home which we had with HM curry. Not healthy but very yummy and enjoyed by all.
5. Credit card bill paid for the month and didn't have to take any money out of savings account which had planned on as quite a lot of extra spent in month but managed out of current account :money:
Hugs to all who need them0 -
VJsmum - sorry to hear about the boy from your son's school. How awful.
McC - those are 2 splendid photos.
CCP- I hope my car repairs go as smoothly as yours. It is now not just kangarooing in 1st gear in low revs but also randomly in other gears at speed too.
Pleasures for today:
1) 10 hour sleep!!
2) Sons OK at school. Smaller son keeps saying everyone kicks him but if I ask about specific children, it is never them. I suppose it could be 1 or 2. He is very anxious about dressing up on Friday (is it Comic Relief or Children in Need?) and is saying he is having a day off that day. He will be disappointed!
3) Changed our train tickets to London for a day we can actually make (double booked yesterday).
4) Popped down to see dad who might have shingles.
5) Cleared out our wardrobes and took clothes to the charity shop/the clothes bank depending on how worn out they were. Saw a £140 Per Una dress (tags still on it) in charity shop for £10 and am now kicking myself as it might have been OK for sister's wedding next year.
6) Went swimming with my brother.
7) Watched Holby City.0 -

I'm pleased you liked the pics, I was convinced I'd put them up before but perhaps not.
What I forgot to add is why DGS was singled out, it wasn't just that his g-g-grandfather's name is on the memorial, it is the fact that g-g-grandfather was an Instructor with the same Scout troop - they would have been one of the first to have been formed in the county.
He was a Sgt, probably the skills he learned Scouting made him more valuable to the Army. The assistant Scoutmaster of the same troop was killed just a few days after him, he was a Corporal.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0
