Oh dear, I work along side a chap who is no longer talking to me, it took me 6 months to break through and get him to be civil, and now he’s back to ignoring me ah well I have to say I do think it’s funny.

    1. Home
    2. Picked up some RTC bargains.
    3. Thought this was interesting http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/green-living/offgrid-meet-the-pioneers-who-are-living-without-mains-power-or-water-801140.html
    4. Really enjoying the Stephen Fry TV programme.
    5. I just bought tickets for a show in 2014!!! Must make a note to remember!!!!
I've got to pick a whole load of the tomatoes tomorrow as they appear to have a tendancy of falling off!!!

    1. Getting up and going to the temp job was a lot easier this morning, thank goodness!

    2. Sunshine :)

    3. Wombled an 88p MrT voucher

    4. Found a brand new Radio Times - glad it was free, why on earth would you pay for it?

    5. Ate my sandwich whilst being 'serenaded' by bubbles coming from a machine powered by a man dressed as a rabbit on a static bicycle! Almost thought I was in Brighton ;)

    6. Arranging my post redirection was much easier than last year - cheaper and I could put DD's name on for no extra cost as we have the same surname,

    7. A lovely chap in the Halifax sorted out my address change swiftly and with good humour.

    8. Despite having to wait 20 minutes for a bus back to the park and ride (and then 2 turned up at once, grr), I still managed to get home by the end of dinner time :) (getting used to this no cooking malarkey!)

    9. Heard a trailer for Just a Minute on R4 coming back soon - Monday?? Hoorah!

    10. Temp job was, thankfully, a bit busier than yesterday, and someone who was off yesterday was in today, and is very friendly, so that helped, as the other people on the floor are rather dull! (my friendly chum from yesterday was training me up and has now gone to a different floor, so we will be ships passing in the night :( )

    11. I'm enjoying being able to wander around Oxford at lunchtime, and so far have avoided spending!

    1. Visited Mum in nursing home; noticed how much she looks like her mother, whereas I'd always thought they weren't alike....is that the wrong sort of old style?;)
    2. Drank 2 mugs of tea with Mum and told her how I love the memory of coming home from school and us sharing the same together every afternoon.
    3. Had a simple meal of leftover beef, leftover homemade gravy, leftover roast veg, (all heated up in ye olde microwave by ye olde husband!) mixed veg and instant mash.
    4. Did 3 loads of washing and played the "no, it won't rain...yes it will...no it won't" game (beloved of housewives for centuries) before finally hanging it all over the house on doors and clothes horses (know as maidens in days of yore, if I remember correctly).
    5. Cleaned 2 glass vases with watermarks by throwing in some bicarb and then some vinegar; cheap entertainment, clean vases and clean sink and drain,

Still struggling to post - I type several words and nothing happens, then they all appear at once!

    1. That will be my No.1, at least the words do appear, we're not done for yet
    2. The laundry basket is empty, all ironing done and put away
    3. Lots of cutting back, pulling of weeds and trim the tomato plants so the fruits are more exposed. Had two Tom Thumbs this morning, summery and sweet
    4. Arranged for a friend to come in next week to see what needs doing to rearrange the garden. Looking forward to getting it started, I'm almost out of ideas for the current layout
    5. Had a yummy duck leg with my salad for dinner. Bought some at a meat 'factory' last month when I visited DS, worth much more than the little I paid for them
    Sweet dreams

Hello, unleashed my inner domestic goddess today!

Got up early ....no more of this slovenly lying in bed!

Phone call to friend from home, the Scottish exam results are out , so phoning to find out how her daughter had got on....very well indeed :)

Made tuna pasta for girls lunch

Made the most deeeelicious tomato soup....using up some scary tomatoes in the fridge....having emptied the fridge and washed it all out.

Slow cooked steak for steak pie for tea......no pastry or potatoes for me though :(

Made a hybrid rocky road chocolate crispy cake....instead of biscuits I used Rice Krispies.

Made an apple sponge and iced it.

Made orange drizzle cupcakes.......I shall not eat any of them ( off to polish my halo again!)

Tidied all the kitchen drawers....gave 'em a hoover and a wash!

Tidied my pantry cupboard ( huge cupboard which appears to have been visited by mice! I was terrified of finding spiders not mouse poo) chucked out loads of lids from take away plastic containers, an empty whiskey bottle....yes it was a nice bottle but really what am I going to ever use it for again? Chucked out an old grater which was turning rusty! All in the recycling bin!

Washing done and ironing done! Sad but true I am loving my new iron:)

Took audio books back to library and donated a read magazine to their magazine swap box.

Went to local shop and bought what I went in for....previously in my life as a carb fiend would have chucked chocolate, crisps etc in the basket....( polishes her halo again! ....weight is starting to come off which is very encouraging!)

Had my final pay from previous workplace ....more than I had anticipated so $400 in the holiday fund! I'm saving up for our holiday cottage .

Have a lovely day, rainy here now but was pleasant enough .

ETA ; made a loaf of bread in the bread maker too.....again none for me but smells blooming good :)

What a good girl mhags! -sponge deserved, and extreme ironing medal. Nice bonus re: pay...almost makes you wish you'd stayed on...NOT:-)

kittikins - good that you sounded much happier at [remember it's temp.]work, until you mentioned Just a Minute....at least I know it's an Avoid coming up.

pk - big thanks for that Independent link. Marvellous article, from which 'They had in common that they were writing their own rules' is key, in mind and in Life. Thanks also for St Stephen of Fry, will find it on i-player.

This was good to listen to - especially the bit about 'weeds' in lawns. Dandelions, buttercups, daisies, they're all welcome and I don't like having to cut them down with the grass. Note they're all yellow :)

This is an oldie but fits well with the above piece -

    God & Grass

We must really perplex God: he made us a perfect world and we have to change it. Imagine the conversation The Creator might have had with St. Francis on the subject of lawns.

GOD: Frank, you know all about gardens and nature. What in the world is going on down there on the planet? What happened to the dandelions, violets, thistles, and stuff I started eons ago? I had a perfect, no-maintenance garden plan. Those plants grow in any type of soil, withstand drought, and multiply with abandon. The nectar from the long-lasting blossoms attracts butterflies, honeybees, and flocks of songbirds. I expected to see a vast garden of colors by now. But all I see are these green rectangles.

ST. FRANCIS: It's the tribes that settled there, Lord. The Suburbanites. They started calling your flowers "weeds" and went to great lengths to kill them and replace them with grass.

GOD: Grass? But it's so boring. It's not colorful. It doesn't attract butterflies, birds, and bees, only grubs and sodworms. It's sensitive to temperatures. Do these Suburbanites really want all that grass growing there?

ST. FRANCIS: Apparently so, Lord. They go to great pains to grow it and keep it green. They begin each spring by fertilizing grass and poisoning any other plant that crops up in the lawn.

GOD: The spring rains and warm weather probably make grass grow really fast. That must make the Suburbanites happy.

ST. FRANCIS: Apparently not, Lord. As soon as it grows a little, they cut it – sometimes twice a week.

GOD: They cut it? Do they then bail it like hay?

ST. FRANCIS: Not exactly, Lord. Most of them rake it up and put it in bags.

GOD: They bag it? Why? Is it a cash crop? Do they sell it?

ST. FRANCIS: No, Sir. Just the opposite. They pay to throw it away.

GOD: Now let me get this straight. They fertilize grass so it will grow. And when it does grow, they cut it off and pay to throw it away?

    ST. FRANCIS: Yes, Sir.

GOD: These Suburbanites must be relieved in the summer when we cut back on the rain and turn up the heat. That surely slows the growth and saves them a lot of work.

ST. FRANCIS: You aren't going to believe this, Lord. When the grass stops growing so fast, they drag out hoses and pay more money to water it so they can continue to mow it and pay to get rid of it.

GOD: What nonsense. At least they kept some of the trees. That was a sheer stroke of genius, if I do say so myself. The trees grow leaves in the spring to provide beauty and shade in the summer. In the autumn they fall to the ground and form a natural blanket to keep moisture in the soil and protect the trees and bushes. Plus, as they rot, the leaves form compost to enhance the soil. It's a natural circle of life.

ST. FRANCIS: You better sit down, Lord. The Suburbanites have drawn a new circle. As soon as the leaves fall, they rake them into great piles and pay to have them hauled away.

GOD: No. What do they do to protect the shrub and tree roots in the winter and to keep the soil moist and loose?

ST. FRANCIS: After throwing away the leaves, they go out and buy something which they call mulch. They haul it home and spread it around in place of the leaves.

GOD: And where do they get this mulch?

ST. FRANCIS: They cut down trees and grind them up to make the mulch.

GOD: Enough. I don't want to think about this anymore. St. Catherine, you're in charge of the arts. What movie have you scheduled for us tonight?

ST. CATHERINE: Dumb and Dumber, Lord. It's a real stupid movie about ...

GOD: Never mind, I think I just heard the whole story from St. Francis.

Somehow forgot chamomile, also deliberately within fingertip reach.

No 'lawn' here sparrer, just stuff I mow from time to time. I'm leaving the back atm, I trek up and down enough to flatten it.
